We warmly welcome Prof. Dr. Isabelle-Christine Panreck as a new member of our Scientific Advisory Board. Isabelle-Christine Panreck is a professor of political science at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, specialising in crises and innovations in democracy as well as intellectual history. She is also a member of the Executive Board of the German Political Science Association (DGfP). |
We look forward to working with her! | | Open SciencePollux Publishing’s first journal is secured. "Totalitarianism and Democracy" from HAIT goes Diamond Open AccessFrom 2027, Pollux Publishing will launch as a non-commercial platform for political science journals under a Diamond Open Access model (as previously reported). A significant milestone: We have secured the renowned journal "Totalitarianism and Democracy" from the Hannah Arendt Institute for Totalitarianism Research (HAIT) as Pollux Publishing’s first partner. By switching to Pollux, we are breaking new ground with our institute’s journal. We expect this to provide low-threshold access, increased visibility and the possibility of new technical presentation formats. As a research institute engaged in interdisciplinary work on dictatorships, autocracies and extremism, open access publication is also of particular importance to us. Prof. Dr. Jörg Ganzenmüller, Director of the Hannah Arendt Institute for Totalitarianism Studies at TU Dresden |
Together with HAIT, we are consistently developing the journal further: Following the successful transition to a commercial open-access model (2020–2026), the next step is now underway. From 2027, it will be published under Diamond Open Access – freely accessible, with no publication fees. |
We are very much looking forward to this collaboration and our shared journey towards independent, open scholarship. About Pollux Publishing Through Pollux Publishing, we offer editors of political science journals the opportunity to publish their journals under the non-commercial Diamond Open Access model. Under Diamond OA, there are no publication fees for authors, and publishers retain control over content and the peer-review process. Furthermore, as a research-led political science publishing platform, Pollux Publishing ensures long-term availability and access via persistent identifiers, thereby supporting academic autonomy and sustainability. Last but not least, with Pollux Publishing we are meeting the demands of research funders to support an open academic culture in political science. If you are editor of a political science journal or are planning to launch a new journal and are interested in publishing it via Pollux Publishing, please do not hesitate to contact us. We can advise you on technical and financial matters and explore potential areas of cooperation together. |
| | The Future of Publishing? Online Workshop: "Diamond Open Access for Editors of Political Science Journals"On March 10th 2026, editors of political science journals, together with GPSA, Pollux – FID Politikwissenschaft, open-access.network, the Diamond Open Access service centre SeDOA and TIB Open Publishing discussed on pathways to Diamond Open Access (DOA). The online workshop focused on issues of funding, ensuring visibility and reputation, legal frameworks, and the transition from commercial to non-commercial Open Access models. A key conclusion: Diamond Open Access is seen by those involved as an opportunity to further develop academic journals free of charge for authors and readers, independent of publication fees, whilst maintaining quality assurance. At the same time, the case study of the review journal "Neue Politische Literatur", which switched from Springer Nature to a DOA model at the ULB Darmstadt, shows that a flip can involve additional organisational effort and unresolved funding issues. The very different starting points of the journals make it clear that decisions on flipping will always be case-by-case decisions. Building on the workshop, three follow-up events are planned on funding, visibility/indexing and organisational issues. | | Diamond Open Access in practice: The Open Gender JournalIn the DVPW blog post "Alternative Open Access Models: Experiences of the Open Gender Journal", Kathrin Ganz describes how open access can be organised in a sustainable and quality-assured manner even beyond commercial publishing models. The article guides readers through the practicalities of editorial work using the specific example of the Diamond Open Access journal Open Gender Journal, highlights the potential of digital publishing, and discusses resource issues and future prospects. It becomes clear that Diamond Open Access initiatives not only enable free publication channels but also actively help shape the academic system. |
| Tooltip: The new AI chat assistant from Polit-XPolit-X’s new AI feature allows users to quickly and concisely summarise content across multiple documents. Based on the user’s own prompt, the AI chat assistant reviews the texts. By interacting with the AI, the focus of the analysis can be adjusted to provide the most appropriate analysis depending on the specific question. The more precise the prompt, the more effectively political content can be captured without having to look at the full text yourself. |
