Applying social network theory to family business, founder centrality has been generally shown to positively affect top-management-team congruence and, as a consequence, firm performance. This study applies social network and strategic leadership theory to an examination of founder centrality in family businesses. It focuses on family businesses in Kenya, and examines the impact of the founder's influence on management team congruence in the three strategic areas of culture, vision, and goals. The discussion considers the research findings in Kenya of a negative influence of founder centrality on management team congruence and firm performance. The study concludes with a presentation of some possible reasons for this dynamic in developing countries like Kenya, where family business is prevalent, and in which the founder plays a central role.

ABSTRACT: In 2011, 11 May, the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence was signed in Istanbul and Turkey was the first country to sign the Convention which entered into force in 2014, August, by the initiatives of ruling government of Justice and Development Party. The Convention, which is the first binding document on violence against women and domestic violence in the international arena, redefines certain concepts such as woman, domestic violence, violence against woman and gender. This redefinition brought about certain legal amendments and the most prominent one was the No 6284 Law on Protection of Family and Prevention of Violence Against Women. While many feminist NGOs and groups, by drawing attention to the historical and traditional context of the violence, construe the convention as a step towards support and remedial the women's rights, and supported the Convention, for some conservative groups the Convention became the potent symbol attacks to family institution through the intervening years. Hence, during the writing process of this article, on March 22, 2021, Turkish Republic declared unilateral cancellation by a presidential decree. Yet still, the debates go on. The aim of this article is to present an analytical history of the Attahashi family of Turkish ancestry by illustrating its genealogy, whose members claim to be descendants of a Turkish ruler who is supposed to have arrived in Aceh in the late decades of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century. This attempt considers the connection to Sungai Iyu partly aligned with the eco-political developments in the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century. According to the argumentation of the current generation of the family, some individuals in the family became local rulers in Lam Kabeu and Sungai Iyu during the last century of the Sultanate of Aceh Darussalam. The relevant data, which sheds new light upon the traces of the Turkish existence in the region, has been acquired from various authentic written documents, oral information from various individuals including family members, and observations in field trips throughout the last decade. During the research, the author has put all his efforts to classify and comparatively examine the data from the various versions of relevant manuscripts, collected from Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar, Sungai Iyu and Medan, with each other. ; Bu makalede, Açe'deki bir Türk kökenli ailenin analitik tarihi gündeme taşınmaktadır. Ailenin halen hayatta olan fertlerinin iddialarına göre, ailenin bazı üyeleri geçmişte Açe Darüsselam Sultanlığı'nın son yüzyılında Lam Kabeu ve Sungai Iyu'da yöneticilik yapmıştır. Bu çerçevede, bölgede bugüne kadar var olduğu ifade edilen Türk varlığının toplumsal ve siyasal izlerinin aydınlatılmasına katkı sağlayacağına inanılan ilgili veriler çeşitli yazılı belgeler, sözlü açıklamalar ile saha ziyaretleri ve gözlemlere dayanmaktadır. A letter report issued by the General Accounting Office with an abstract that begins "The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), through the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), insures billions of dollars in home mortgage loans made by private lenders. HUD's 2020 Management Reform Plan, issued in 1997, sought to downsize and reform the agency, including its single-family mortgage insurance program. As part of its 2020 plan, HUD consolidated the single-family program's field activities at four new regional homeownership centers and specified resources for the centers. Although HUD has substantially streamlined FHA's single-family mortgage insurance programs, human capital issues remain a concern. This report reviews HUD's implementation of the homeownership center concept under the 2020 plan, focusing on (1) the deployment of center staff, (2) the training provided to the center staff, and (3) the centers' monitoring of contractors. GAO found that nearly half of the centers' staff remain in 71 field offices across the country, even though HUD envisioned that only a third of the staff would stay in the field offices. The deployment of staff across the centers is not consistent with their workload, and, as a result, the centers are having trouble supervising and making effective use of staff. GAO also found that HUD has not developed a standardized training curriculum for center staff. The centers have had difficulty using their training funds effectively because HUD provided them late in the fiscal year and then pulled back some funds before they could be used. Finally, increased responsibilities and staff shortage have caused the centers to expand their use of contractors. However, the centers' ability to monitor contractors has not kept pace with their growing reliance on them."

This article investigates sociodemographic and family and church factors as correlates of support from family and church members among a representative sample of African Americans. Overall patterns of family and church support indicate that slightly more than half of respondents receive assistance from both family and church networks, one quarter receive assistance from family only, and roughly equal percentages (9%) receive help from either church members only or do not receive help from either group. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was used to examine sociodemo graphic (i.e., age, marital status, gender, region, education, income, and urbanicity) and family and church factors (i.e., family closeness, family contact, parental status, and church participation) as predictors of specific patterns and sources of support. The findings indicated significant age, gender, and marital and parental status differences in patterns of support from family and church. Perceptions of family closeness, degree of interaction with family, and overall levels of participation in church activities were associated with distinctive patterns of assistance.

The traditional Korean house – the hanok – represents a specific eastern attitude towards nature, i.e. adapting to the geographical conditions instead of making efforts to control or modify them. Aside from socioeconomically determined differences in the houses of the upper, middle or commoner class, the individual distinctions of a hanok have mainly resulted from their natural surroundings. A hanok's harmony with the environment comprises its location, structure, style and building material as well as the outdoor design. Moreover, the architectural features are directly related to the traditional social order in Korea, which was developed during the reign of the Joseon dynasty (1392–1910) in line with the state ideology. Adopted from China, the orthodox ideology of Neo-Confucianism was believed to become a comprehensive recipe for social and political renewal in Korea. The government methodically implemented it as a state religion and law. According to the doctrine of the Neo-Confucian scholar Zhu Xi, human relations as well as obligations for different social strata became strictly defined. Elaborate family rituals were introduced to reinforce and maintain the patriarchal system of Korean society, in which clans played a leading role. The residential architecture was also influenced by and adapted for profound changes in the social life of Korea. This article focuses on the impact of Neo-Confucian thought on family life in Korean upper-class homes. Predominantly, the noble families strictly followed Zhu Xi's ritualism, i.e. the extended hierarchy rules and the complex ancestor cult rituals. As an example, the case of a contemporary jongga family is examined, which provides additional information on the current developments of the traditional life in a hanok.

Abstrak:Program Keluarga Berencana menjadi program pemerintah yang penting untuk dilakukan sebagai upaya mewujudkan penduduk tumbuh seimbang dan keluarga berkualitas. Salah satu upaya yang dilakukan untuk menyukseskan Program Keluarga Berencana adalah melalui iklan. Studi-studi terdahulu menunjukkan bahwa iklan Program Keluarga Berencana di televisi memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap keberhasilan Program Keluarga Berencana. Namun, tantangan yang dihadapi televisi semakin bertambah pada era digitalisasi. Terdapat pergeseran medium periklanan Program Keluarga Berencana, dari yang sebelumnya melalui televisi sebagai sumber informasi utama, menjadi melalui media digital atau internet. Artikel ini merupakan studi konseptual yang menggunakan metode kualitatif tinjauan pustaka, dengan tujuan menganalisis faktor dan implikasi dari adanya perubahan medium periklanan Program Keluarga Berencana, dari yang sebelumnya analog menjadi digital. Adapun faktor-faktor tersebut yaitu biaya yang cenderung lebih murah, kemudahan dan kecepatan mengakses informasi, information on demand, iklan dapat ditampilkan untuk target adopter dengan kriteria usia, wilayah, jenis kelamin, dan preferensi lain yang diinginkan, serta memungkinkan interaksi antar pengguna dan pengiklan. One of the efforts made to make the Family Planning Program a success is through advertising. Previous studies have shown that Family Planning Program advertisements on television have a significant influence on the success of the Family Planning Program. However, the challenges facing television are increasing in the era of digitalization. There has been a shift in the advertising medium for the Family Planning Program, from previously being through television as the main source of information, to being through digital media or the internet. This article is a conceptual study that uses a qualitative literature review method, with the aim of analyzing the factors and implications of a change in the advertising medium of the Family Planning Program, from analog to digital. These factors are costs that tend to be cheaper, the ease and speed of accessing information, information on demand, advertisements can be displayed for target adopters with criteria of age, region, gender, and other desired preferences, and allow interaction between users and advertisers. In addition, there are at least seven impacts from the shift of analog media to digital media in everyday life

In its reply to the Green Paper on Family Reunification, the Dutch government proposed some controversial amendments. Does it make the Netherlands the black sheep in the European herd? Mark Klaassen en Johanne Søndergaard analyzed the data and conclude that the Netherlands does not stand completely alone in its views. Chances are thin, however, that the Dutch restrictive proposals will become reality any time soon.

AbstractThis paper presents parents' experiences of community support and their recommendations for how their communities, and the services within them, might support their families. Generated through a human‐centred design methodology and using a desire‐centred framework, the findings suggest that parents receiving a family service require support invoking feelings of intimacy, trust, reciprocity, inclusivity, connection and belonging. Parents' recommendations for community support include addressing material and attitudinal constraints impacting on engagement with services; creating non‐judgmental services tailored to their needs but accessed as a last resort; and creating peer‐based opportunities to support each other. Parents reflect that moving beyond basic survival of risk and vulnerability to a position where thriving is possible requires purposeful integration of parent's existing and desired community into service interventions. Facilitating deliberate change at the intersection of community and service support is pertinent to current and future social work policy and practice. Wider opportunities for understanding and enabling the needs and aspirations of parents, which are often overlooked because of a focus on addressing risk and vulnerability, are considered.

ABSTRACTChildren and their parents who become homeless constitute a group of families with a complex range of social care and health needs, including mental health difficulties. In response to this, a local authority housing department established a family support team (FST) that provides assessment and detection of a range of problems, support to parents and children, parenting interventions for child behavioural problems, liaison with other agencies, and referral to specialist services when appropriate. The aim of this study was to establish the perceptions of parents and staff on their experience of the service, and ways of improving it in the future. The study adopted a developmental evaluation approach and used multiple methods, including in‐depth interviews with families; diaries; reflective activities; participatory learning and action; and observation of the FST. The study mapped the innovative service and captured the range of skills in the team and the complexity of agencies the team interacted with. It also identified areas for further development in terms of the mental health needs of children and parents who have become homeless.

Based on interviews with 80 low-income men conducted in the province of Guanacaste, Northwest Costa Rica, this study explores men's relationship with work and family. The discussion highlights the causes of an emergent "crisis of masculinity" among men in the region, and its interconnections with employment, gender and conjugal relationships. (DSE/DÜI)
