Efficiency of resource use in rice production systems in Anambra State, Nigeria
In: African Rural Social Science Series / Research Report, No. 7
Abstract
This study was conducted among smallhoder rice farmers in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria, over the 1987-88 crop year to determine ways in which rice production might be increased through more efficient use of farming ressources. A total of 45 rice farmers was randomly selected for the study, in such a way as to include an equal number of irrigated, swamp, and upland rice farmers. Survey results indicate that land scarcity, financial constraints, unfavorable rainfall patterns, and the inefficient distribution of irrigation water limited the production of rice during the survey period
