Gowon: The biography of a soldier-statesman
This book is not a regular political biography. It is an attempt at a scholarly analysis of the Nigerian polity. It attempts to see the Nigerian polity through the perceptual prism of the leader - his feelings in situations of stress in crisis decision-making, and non-crisis decision-making. It attempts also to see the leader and his capabilities through the intricate web of Nigeria's polity. What in Nigeria's political setting helps to build, or immobilize and subsequently destroy its leaders

One of the many alarming phenomena that have accompanied the Nigerian crisis has been the growing engagement of the great powers in a situation that at first appeared to be confined solely to local interests. From an examination of the history of this nation, it could be concluded that this people will probably have to continue to suffer for some time the intervention of foreign powers. On the one hand, Great Britain, the United States and the Soviet Union have positioned themselves from the beginning of the conflict on the side of the federal government of General Gowon, while the Sino-Soviet conflict is indeed very well outlined in the Nigerian civil struggle, in the one that we find the Chinese siding with Biafra. Along with them is also France, Portugal. To all this must also be added the unofficial participation of arms manufacturers, traffickers, mercenaries and transporters.
