Given seriously the benchmark and automatic nature of the way in which the camera aims the reality, André Bazin set the idea that cinema is an absolutely realistic art that disposes us of the artist's expression, style effects and the breath of a story to be reported. But this was not without ambiguities and embarrassing bias. On the one hand, since aesthetics were inferred from technical properties, it is only by remaining faithful to the specificity of its medium that the film is capable of allowing the world 'as in itself', that is to say 'objectively', to come. On the other hand, considering the entire production, it was necessary to create an artificial opposition between formalist film-makers who manipulate and rebuild the real through a chain of unwavering actions, and film-makers of the gross presence at whom the sensitive inscription of the filmed body reveals a power of their own independent of the assembly. How to capture this apparent aversion from Bazin to any somewhat supported style brand, or even to what seems to be the basic gestures of a filmmaker: close, connect, cut, paste, edit, get closer? Against the widespread explanation that naively takes into account only the presumptive modernists about the recording and epiphanie of the 'raw facts' that the film is supposed to provide, it is argued that Bazin did not design realism as the possibility for cinema to transmit the world's spatial and temporal consistency. Its problem relates only marginally to the ontology of analogue image and more to the attitude of the filmmaker to a medium with specific affinities towards real life. Although the mechanical eye is capable of capturing everything, this incorporation of the world by the camera also attests to a form of strictly cinematographic violence. What is the possible criterion for the political relevance of a cinematographic image? Is there a non-subjective standard that underpins the difference between abjected and acceptable films? In the last instance, since the camera takes fragments outside ...
1536 1549 61 9 ; S ; [EN] Dams fragment river systems worldwide, and Mediterranean-climate rivers, characterised by highly seasonal hydrographs and adapted biotas, are particularly impacted by flow regulation. Whereas the effects of flow regulation on hydrology, sediment transport and biodiversity have long been examined, responses at the food-web level remain understudied. Environmental variation is a key control of food-web structure. Thus, we predicted that flow regulation would impact food-chain length (FCL) via changes in the flow variation regime, and we tested this prediction in a set of flow unregulated to completely regulated reaches in a Mediterranean river basin. In each reach, we characterised flow variation, together with two other putative controls of FCL (productivity and habitat size). We combined community data with carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes to estimate food-chain length, and Bayesian mixing models allowed estimates of dietary proportions of consumers. Flow variation was paramount in controlling FCL in the studied river network, and this same control largely explained the degree of omnivory among top predators. Thus, omnivory mechanisms were the main proximate structural mechanism allowing shifts in food-web structure and linking disturbance regimes to FCL. Our results suggest that flow regulation in Mediterranean rivers may impact food-web structure even when no significant changes in community composition are observed. If highly variable Mediterranean streams become increasingly affected by flow regulation, the resulting more stable conditions could enhance intraguild predation and thus lengthen riverine food chains. International audience In this article, we cross the inputs of the sociology of art and networks based on French cinema. This study is mainly the result of two surveys conducted between 2004 and 2006 for the first one, 2008 and 2012 for the second one concerning a population of « talents » (directors, actors, technicians and heads of post) and intermediates (producers, distributors, critics, operators). Beyond an individualizing speech (the « politique des auteurs » of the French « new wave »), French cinema can account chains of embeddedness, from tighter (dyads) to larger ones (« family »).
1 6 2013 ; S ; For an arbitrary open subset U subset of R-d or U subset of C-d and a continuous function v : U ->]0,infinity[ we show that the space h(v0) (U) of weighed harmonic functions is almost isometric to a (closed) subspace of c(0), thus extending a theorem due to Bonet and Wolf for spaces of holomorphic functions H-v0 (U) on open sets U subset of C-d. Inspired by recent work of Boyd and Rueda, we characterize in terms of the extremal points of the dual of h(v0) (U) when h(v0) (U) is isometric to a subspace of c(0). Some geometric conditions on an open set U subset of C-d and convexity conditions on a weight v on U are given to ensure that neither H-v0 (U) nor h(v0) (U) are rotund. The authors are grateful to J. International audience This article aims at showing how environmental aesthetics relates to the common environment, the ordinary environment that we discuss, share, and live in. Aesthetics has primarily been understood in relation to art and art history, but it has now been emancipated from this framework of interpretation. In the wake of John Dewey, aesthetics has become the problem of experience as ordinary sensitivity. One can even think that it is a question of adequately defining the world of sensitivity that rests on the faculty of perception: both the capacity to perceive and the concept of the perceptual commons that follows from this. The forms that are perceived could then very well be understood as those we have in common and that we discuss in questions of policy (formal commons). Arnold Berleant, in his essay "The Aesthetic Politics of Environment," explains: Such a vision brings us to the need for recognizing and shaping environment. It may be that the perceptual commons identifies the establishing conditions of the human environment, that is, of the human world, and that in shaping environment we are enhancing and making coherent all its participating constituents.[1] In the remarks that follow I would like to show just how much aesthetic engagement, involving active participation in the appreciative process, sometimes by overt physical action but always by creative perceptual involvement,[2] concerns urban lives and also, in spite of the eminently artificial nature of the urban environment, how much it draws on the depth of the perceptual experience involved. Indeed, if there is knowledge in our city-dwellers' gaze, it is not this erudition that gives the aesthetic experiences their depth and liveliness, but the human capacity to project ourselves into these environments, to feel connected to them ecologically.

The aim of the workshop was to hold "Gordon Conference" type discussion covering accommodation and reactive uptake of water vapour and trace pollutant gases on condensed phase atmospheric materials. The scope was to review and define the current state of knowledge of accommodation coefficients for water vapour on water droplet and ice surfaces, and uptake of trace gas species on a variety of different surfaces characteristic of the atmospheric condensed phase particulate matter and cloud droplets. Twenty-six scientists participated in this meeting through presentations, discussions and the development of a consensus review. In this review we present an analysis of the state of knowledge on the thermal and mass accommodation coefficient for water vapour on aqueous droplets and ice and a survey of current state-of the-art of reactive uptake of trace gases on a range of liquid and solid atmospheric droplets and particles. The review recommends consistent definitions of the various parameters that are needed for quantitative representation of the range of gas/condensed surface kinetic processes important for the atmosphere and identifies topics that require additional research.
When thinking about the political persistency of certain historical manifestations of vanguard art, we find that complex relationships in different instances and times of the twentieth century have occurred between political programs, spatio-temporal contexts and diverse forms of artistic practice. We could say that different modes of these relationships have led to major transformations in the field of art and in our ways of understanding its ontology and functioning. The work of the Latin American avant-garde and neo-avant- garde seems to be the key to these transformations in our latitudes. From their experiments, the old and ossified classifications and hierarchies exploded. The stalled and well circumscribed compartments of the fields of visual, plastic, literary, theatrical, sculptural, musical, sonourus, pictorial, politics, etc. become, with the development of artistic modernity, a great bunch of indeterminate resources, strategies and possibilities of representation, expression, communication and resiliency. We care about some particular disciplinary hybridizations and expansions, especially in the context of communion between action, image and speech in certain practices of conceptualism of Argentine (neo) avant-garde that linger echoes of their even today. We will focus in the work of unclassifiable artist Alberto Greco, especially in its Vivo Dito, since his artworks constitute a memorable and paradigmatic landmark in the genealogy of the policies of Latin American art. The present paper investigates how employer working time policies are related to the gender composition of the labour force. To study theses policies, we opted for a qualitative survey, based on semi-structured interviews of HR offciers. It proposes a gendered reinterpretation of time systems, as described and analysed in the labour force segmentation perspective : the results-based time system, the fragmented time system, the standard time system. The findings indicate that gender has an ambiguous influence on working time arrangements : depending on contexts, it may improve or worsen working conditions.
The article asks questions around the art in the street cycle, developed by the Harrods commercial house of Buenos Aires between the 1940s and 1970s. Questions are raised about the politico-aesthetic and epistemic potential mobilised by artists' glassware produced in the framework of this programme, based on an approach to the experience of images such as condensation of wishes and soundness involved in a cultural plot of time. It reflects on the illustrative practices at stake in the glazing device, making references to other epocal ways of watching. It concluded with a reflection on the methodological perspective worked.
Peer reviewed ; We assessed spatio-temporal patterns of diversity in deep-sea sediment communities using metabarcoding. We chose a recently developed eukaryotic marker based on the v7 region of the 18S rRNA gene. Our study was performed in a submarine canyon and its adjacent slope in the Northwestern Mediterranean Sea, sampled along a depth gradient at two different seasons. We found a total of 5,569 molecular operational taxonomic units (MOTUs), dominated by Metazoa, Alveolata and Rhizaria. Among metazoans, Nematoda, Arthropoda and Annelida were the most diverse. We found a marked heterogeneity at all scales, with important differences between layers of sediment and significant changes in community composition with zone (canyon vs slope), depth, and season. We compared the information obtained from metabarcoding DNA and RNA and found more total MOTUs and more MOTUs per sample with DNA (ca. 20% and 40% increase, respectively). Both datasets showed overall similar spatial trends, but most groups had higher MOTU richness with the DNA template, while others, such as nematodes, were more diverse in the RNA dataset. We provide metabarcoding protocols and guidelines for biomonitoring of these key communities in order to generate information applicable to management efforts. 280 287 330 ; S ; Temperature can have a significant effect on the extent of wear damage of metallic components. Thermal barrier coatings can improve the high temperature tribological and friction wear behavior. In this work the dry friction and wear behavior at low and high temperature of NiCoCrAlY and CoNiCrAlY laser cladding coatings were evaluated, as well as for the austenitic stainless steel AISI 304 used as substrate. Dense coatings, with good bonding to the substrate was obtained by coaxial laser cladding tracks (40% overlapping), with previously optimized laser parameters. Tribological wear tests were performed by sliding wear at room temperature and 500 ºC, with an Al2O3 ball on disk configuration tribometer. The wear scar surface was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) microanalysis. The 3D topography of the wear track was determined by inductive contact profilometer which enabled the wear rate calculation. The microstructure of the coatings consists of γNi/β-NiAl or γCo/β-(Co,Ni)Al phases depending on the chemical composition of the alloy, as confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The wear test results show a reduction in wear rate at high temperature for all materials tested. For the NiCoCrAlY coating, the high temperature also reduces the friction coefficient, while it significantly increases the friction coefficient of CoNiCrAlY coating. The main damage mode is abrasion and adhesion, caused by the oxide and partially-oxidized particles in the contact surface. The coatings and substrate results were compared, resulting in an improved wear behavior.
