An exploratory pilot study identifying the perceived benefits of accreditation to an environmental management standard, BS 7750, in 13 UK companies. This paper begins by exploring the benefits of "going green", followed by a description of the different environmental management standards. Then the methodology of the study is explored, including the structure of the questionnaire and the sample breakdown. The results section follows, detailing the broad results at each of the three stages of the questionnaire. Main findings are summarised in the conclusion followed by an indication of the future direction of the work. The paper concludes by identifying that the main benefit for companies in gaining an environmental management standard would appear to be the ability to quantify and identify elements of the environmental management process in the company, allowing a company to measure, manage and audit within a structured, recognised format.
Risk management is becoming an important issue in companies. Therefore, the ISO recognized the need to establish a standard for risk management, which is still in the process of approval from all ISO members, and will be published by the end of 2008 or early 2009 after a consensus has been reached. ISO standards provide requirements or give guidance on good management practice. ISO 31000 for international Risk Management Standards is considered as a generic management system standard, which means that the same standard can be applied to any organization, large or small, whatever its product or service, in any sector of activity, and whether it is a business enterprise, a public administration, or a government department. The objective of this article focuses on the introduction of ISO 31000 and the framework, to give a brief description of how risk management can be applied in organizations. Organizations with a commitment to managing risk know that implementing standards can enable them to do so more effectively and therefore maximize opportunities and minimize losses in the course of achieving corporate objectives.

Employment Services (ESs), Public ones (PESs) and Private ones (PrEAs), are becoming more and more important for Public Administrations where their social implications on sustainability, workforce mobility and equal opportunities play a fundamental strategic importance for any central or local Government. The EU SEEMP (Single European Employment Market-Place) project aims at improving facilitate workers mobility in Europe. Ontologies are used to model descriptions of job offers and curricula; and for facilitating the process of exchanging job offer data and CV data between ES. In this paper we present the methodological approach we followed for reusing existing human resources management standards like NACE, ISCO-88 (COM) and FOET, among others, in the SEEMP project, in order to build a common "language" called Reference Ontology.

International audience ; This paper presents a communicational analysis of international management standards in the field of private and public organizations. We study the new communication policies and strategies transmitted by these texts. This work (part of the NOTSEG project, 2009-2012, financed by the French National Research Agency) concerns the internationalstandardization of societal security. The aim of this project is to study management standards (international, European and national) in relation to the institutions and the stakeholders who produce and use them. We attempt to uncover the organizational and social changes which are recommended. This proposal aims to show how a communicational approach to organizations can contribute to the analysis of these normative texts. An additional aim is to suggest a methodology to carry out this study. The normative texts are analysed in connection with the institutions and the interested parties who put them forth and use them. This analysis throws light on the communication strategies (in particular the strategies of influence) of the protagonists in their relationships with the new organisational politics they promote, and which are revealed in the texts. We will illustrate this approach with an excerpt from the corpus composed of resilience and business continuity standards.
