Change is a double-edged knife. It is both beneficial and harmful. A changing organization must first recognize the needs for change before planning a radical transformation. However, some organizations can fail to identify and devise effective measures to transform since the transforming layers are beyond overt variables: such as the aspects of ideology and metaphors. This paper is dealing with the need for change in a private university in Indonesia. Unsuccessful effort to manage the change has produced unproductive conflicts in the university. To generate an effective transformation plan, the researchers employed, ethnography, an embedded participant observation, to gather rich data. Followed by a combination of two futuristic methods namely Causal Layered Analysis (CLA) and backcasting to deeply comprehend the fabrics of the present, generate an alternative and preferred future, and present ideal measures to actualize the preferred future along with potential risks. The result suggests the university to transform all covert and overt layers in concert to be a progressive democratic Islamic university.

Power is an important topics of study in the social sciences. As a concept, power has an intersubjectivity meaning. This paper analyses the various concept of power from the political geography perspective, analyzing the thoughts by four prominent and influential social scientists, Anthony Giddens, Antonio Gramsci, David Beetham, and Michel Foucault. This paper aims to explain how the concept of power has contextualized within the place, space and society's narrative in modern-day of human life. Furthermore, the concepts of power presented by these four selected thinkers have massively influenced the notion and the discourse of the study of power nowadays. This paper argues that instead of having a different context and discourse as well as paradigm, the concepts of power by those thinkers have a similar way of thinking when looking the dynamics of space and place of the society as the basic principle of their analysis.

Purpose
This paper aims to understand corporate social responsibility (CSR) narrative under the Islamic banking paradigm by three aspects, narrative review of the literature, review of the definitions of CSR and review of factors that cause divergence from conventional percepts.


Design/methodology/approach
This is a theoretical paper based on literature and aims to understand the CSR narrative under the paradigm of Islamic banking.


Findings
Religion brings new dimensions of ethics and expands the scope of morality in business. Islamic banking is a new wave of corporation whose social goals are as much important as making profit. There are diverse narrations and definitions prevailing in the literature of CSR under the Islamic paradigm which also encounters the aspects of divergence from conventional percepts. The academic debate of CSR-Islamic banking brings on surface a plausible CSR paradigm, that is to guide the role of Islamic banking in society under the Islamic provisions, ethics and axioms. This paper also paves the way for future direction, particularly in terms of a holistic understanding of CSR narrative under the Islamic banking paradigm.


Research limitations/implications
This is a theoretical paper; it primarily discusses the theoretical aspects of CSR narrative under the paradigm of Islamic banking, while it does not give insight into the empirical narrative or disclosure of CSR in Islamic banking.


Practical implications
The theoretical review of literature brings plausible understanding, that Islamic banking is a new wave of corporate and has standings on divine guidance. The structure of the institution in its foundation insists on real economic activity. The legitimacy of Islamic banking has roots in ethical compliance and in inculcating the broader interests of stakeholders. There are several social responsibilities, which are expected from the practitioners of Islamic banking. The practitioners as well must understand that the CSR of Islamic banking is far beyond the conventional percepts of CSR.


Originality/value
There are several normative and theoretical studies in the domain of CSR-Islamic banking. It is hard to find a comprehensive narrative review of such literature. This review is unique, which brings a holistic understanding of CSR narrative under the Islamic banking paradigm.

The Integrated Islamic School (Sekolah Islam Terpadu) is known for its rapid development trend in the last decade. The development of the integrated Islamic School runs with the growth of interest to a pure Islamic Education. Appearing as an Islamic institution integrating both religious and secular knowledge, the Integrated Islamic School is able to master the market among the Muslim population. This article aims to scrutinize the characteristics and strategies of the school to expand amid the competitive Indonesian education market through human resource supervision. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the characteristics and strategies of the integrated Islamic School-based human resource supervision encompass political stability, strong Islamic symbols, Islamic personal development programs, inclusive scholarships, and incorporating Islamic populism. These characteristics and strategies attribute the integrated Islamic school as modern, advanced yet religious. In addition, the schools are exclusive in recruiting teachers, pragmatic in using Islamic symbols, and idealistic in the curriculum. Interestingly, this research evokes the integrated Islamic school's two faces. Internally, it affiliates with an exclusive organization and ideology (Muslim Brotherhood), but simultaneously the school publicly shows inclusive nuances to the society. ; Sekolah Islam Terpadu merupakan sekolah yang memiliki tren perkembangan sangat pesat pada era ini. Perkembangan Sekolah Islam Terpadu berjalan seiring dengan tumbuhnya minat terhadap pendidikan yang Islami. Berdiri dengan wajah sekolah Islam yang mengintegrasikan muatan agama dan umum, Sekolah Islam Terpadu mampu menguasai pasar di dunia pendidikan. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap karakteristik dan strategi Sekolah Islam Terpadu dalam berekspansi melalui supervisi sumber daya manusia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakteristik dan strategi Sekolah Islam Terpadu berdasar supervisi sumber daya manusia meliputi stabilitas politik, simbol-simbol Islam yang kuat, program Bina Pribadi Islami, keilmuan yang terbuka, dan berjalan seiring dengan menguatnya populisme Islam. Karakteristik sekaligus strategi tersebut menjadikan Sekolah Islam Terpadu ekspansif pada masa ini. Sekolah ini menerapkan metode yang eksklusif dalam merekrut guru, pragmatis dalam menggunakan simbol-simbol Islam namun idealis dalam kurikulum. Hal menarik dalam penelitian ini adalah meskipun Sekolah Islam Terpadu pada faktanya berafiliasi dengan organisasi eksklusif (Ikhwanul Muslimin), namun ia mampu menyajikan nuansa inklusif di mata masyarakat.

Di tengah sengkarut ekonomi global yang menyebabkan kesenjangan yang tajam, masyarakat dan elit-elit politik di dunia seolah telah kehilangan daya kritis untuk melawan penindasan dan penghisapan berkedok pembangunan. Di situlah Islam, sebagai agama yang transformatif, seharusnya mampu hadir sebagai penawar. Secara normatif, Islam bukanlah agama yang menafikan tanggung jawab sosial. Malahan dalam firman-Nya, Allah Swt menyatakan seorang muslim sebagai pendusta agama apabila sementara ia beribadah, ia mengacuhkan kondisi prihatin fakir dan yatim di sekitarnya (107: 3). Doktrin utama Islam, doktrin tauhid juga mengisyaratkan kesatuan manusia (The unity of man) sebagai hamba yang tunduk patuh kepada kesatuan Tuhan (The unity of God) dan karenanya menolak upaya penuhanan lainnya. Tulisan ini mengajukan sebuah konsepsi mengenai Islam selaku teologi kritis yang memiliki pesan utama agar penganutnya melakukan perubahan sosial. Konsepsi itu memperlihatkan Islam yang membebaskan melalui lima elemen teologis, yaitu: doktrin, kisah, subjek, kesadaran, dan pendidikan yang membebaskan. Amid the turmoil of the global economy which led to sharp disparities, the people and political elites in the world seemed to have lost the critical power to oppose the oppression and exploitation under the guise of development. That is where Islam, as a transformative religion, should be able to come as an antidote. Normatively, Islam is not a religion that denies social responsibility. In fact, in his word, God declared a Muslim a religious liar if while he worshiped he ignored the conditions of concern for the needy and orphans around him (107: 3). The main doctrine of Islam, the doctrine of monotheism also implies human unity (The unity of man) as a servant who obeys to the unity of God (The Unity of God) and therefore rejects other full efforts. This paper proposes a conception of Islam as a critical theology which has the main message that followers adhere to social change. PurposeThis study aims to examine whether corporate social responsibility (CSR) of Islamic banking is delivering financial returns or otherwise enhancing the cost.Design/methodology/approachThe methodology of this study includes the content-analysis approach with aid of the CSR disclosure index, and it deploys the partial least squares regression to examine the CSR-financial performance relationship. Regarding CSR disclosure and financial measures, this study takes the data from the annual reports of Islamic banking of Pakistan, from the year 2003 to 2017.FindingsThe results of this study indicate that there is a significant positive relationship exists between CSR and financial performance of Islamic banks, consistent with the instrumental-stakeholder theory. These results imply that Islamic banks, which ensure that CSR is practiced extensively, and aim to positively affect their stakeholders, perform well. Hence, the CSR engagement by Islamic banks yields instrumental returns rather it is a cost.Practical implicationsIslamic banks of Pakistan must work on a better CSR policy, it would enhance the reputation of Islamic banks, on the other hand, it would also increase their capabilities to cope with future reputation damage and negative news, thus it would protect and secure the financial results. In addition to these, investors of Islamic banks must also look at the social and ethical engagements of Islamic banks of Pakistan, while making investment decisions.Originality/valueIn general, there is a dearth of research in the domain of CSR-financial performance regarding Islamic banking. This is one of the studies which contributes to this area.

The Education Planner has been regulated in a law that explains that the Quality of National Education will be measured through the achievement of all National Education Standards, including Content Standards, Processes, Graduation Competencies, Education and Education Personnel, Facilities and Infrastructure, Management, Financing and Assessment (PP RI) No. 19 of 2005 has been perfected with Government Regulation No. 32 of 2013). Serious and serious attention by the parties to the efforts to fulfill and realize all these standards will determine the quality/quality of education.

COVID-19 pandemic is now a global crisis, with the number of known cases climbing daily and millions of people stranded at home. As countries toil to preserve the lives of their people, economies are grinding to a halt. At that dismal time, Malaysia is going through a vast political crisis with a new leader, and several states have new governments. In this vein, the present study aims at shedding how Malaysian responses to the COVID-19 pandemic? This study adopted a qualitative approach by using the secondary data collected from the journal, the official website of the government sector, NGOs, authorized bodies, and newspapers. Our finding shows although Malaysia had COVID-19 during the political crisis, a new ruling party is competent to manage the issue accordingly with the Ministry of Health and the National Security Council plays a vital role in the management of the pandemic. The government has taken various kinds of measures to ensure the pandemic to be reduced, and economic recession could be minimizing that benefit Malaysian and non-citizenship notably to vulnerable with the amalgamate by numerous NGOs.
