A review of personal experiences in futures research and education projects provides grounded answers to questions about the theory, method, content, and application of futures in academic and practitioner realms. Case studies including the journal Cultural Futures Research, the annual CONTACT conferences, the Flagstaff Tomorrow research project, the Northern Arizona University (NAU) Solar System Simulation, and the representational device of time lines illustrate the emergence and development of a self-correcting, systematic, and replicable body of knowledge and practice in the study of the future.
