This article explores the continuities between feminist peace approaches of Jane Addams and Emily Greene Batch and the ecofeminists and pacifist feminists of the 1980s. The recognition of interconnectedness among peoples and, for some, all life forms, as well as the necessity for respecting diversity, connects the thinking and activism of these women. The article also considers Addams's and Balch's views about women's unique perspectives on injustice, war, and peace‐issues that continue to concern ecofeminists and peace feminists. Ideas relating to feminist essentialism, an ethic of care, and a women's maternal practice, as well as notions about separatism, span the generations. Lastly, the article compares the formation of feminist peace communities during the post‐World War I era and the 1980s. Both generations aimed to actualize principles of nonviolence and respect for diversity in consensual decision‐making and supportive relationships.
