Telephone interviews with a probability sample of 419 adults re the diffusion of knowledge of the assassination of President J. F. Kennedy indicated: (1) almost 9 in 10 heard of the shooting of the President prior to the announcement that he had died; (2) among those who heard of the shooting, 66.6% heard within a half-hour; (3) location at the time of the shooting dictated the means by which adults heard of the events -those at work were told primarily by others, those who were out were evenly divided between the MM & personal sources as the first means of knowledge, & those at home were informed primarily by radio & TV; (4) those informed by personal sources immediately turned to radio & TV for confirmation & additional information; & (5) those informed by personal sources were likely to talk to a greater number of other persons about the events.
