Summary. The purpose of the research is to study the peculiarities of depicting the events of the military campaign of 1649 in Polish historiography of the first half of the twentieth century, and in particular the siege of Zbarazh by the Cossack troops and the Battle of Zborow; isolate various stereotypes, patterns and historical myths; analyze the approaches of Polish scholars to the image of various historical figures, the creation of educational ideals of heroes of the homeland or anti-heroes for the younger generation of Poles; study the diversity of historians' approaches to the analysis of the circumstances of the conclusion and conditions of the Zboriv Peace Treaty; consider the visions of Polish scholars on the international context of the events of 1649, on the vision of the influences on the Cossacks of various foreign policy forces.The research methodology is based on the scientific principles of historical science, namely the principles of historicism, objectivism, systematization and verification, scientific constructivism, as well as the general scientific principles of analysis, synthesis and generalization. Special historical methods are used, such as historical-genetic, historical-comparative and historical-typological.The scientific novelty of the study lies in the coverage of a whole range of problems raised by Polish scholars in the first half of the twentieth century while constructing an image of the events of the Polish-Ukrainian confrontation in 1649. Great attention is paid to the ideological approaches of historians and their political beliefs through the prism of which they considered historical events. The research investigates historical mythologies, stereotypes and patterns that influenced the representation of the past in Polish historiography and received their response in the historical consciousness of Poles and all further development of studies on the history of Polish-Ukrainian relations in the Polish science.Conclusions. The events of the Polish-Ukrainian war of 1649 became significant in the presentation of the image of Khmelnytsky region by Polish researchers. The main accents on them were laid at the end of the XIX century by the Polish historian L. Kubala and the writer G. Sinkevych and continued to develop actively in the historiography of the first half of the XX century. Their images were significantly influenced by the educational ideals of the Polish society in its stateless period, which served to «strengthen the hearts» of the people. After World War I, scholars' approaches to historical material were superimposed on their ideological attitudes due to their commitment to one or another political camp of the Second Polish Republic, and in particular the ideology of the National Democrats or the camp of Marshal J. Pilsudski. Through their prism, the international context of the event was considered, in particular the influences of the Crimean Khanate, the Ottoman Empire or the Moscow Empire. Researchers' political visions also influenced their views on internal processes among the Ukrainian people, in particular the formation of a political nation and state-building processes.Layering of mythological archetypes in the presentation of various facts of the military campaign is of particular interest, which had an impact on the formation of anti-Ukrainian stereotypes and phobias. Polish researchers and artists paid a lot of attention to the creation of the ideal of a hero-defender of the fatherland and an exemplary representative of the noble «Sarmatian people» from the figure of Prince Jeremia Vyshnevetskyi. In the context of the analysis of the significance and consequences of the Zboriv Peace Treaty, historians considered the very circumstances and processes of transformation of the Polish-Ukrainian conflict, its internal social and cultural incentives. ; Анотація. Мета дослідження полягає у вивченні особливостей зображення подій військової кампанії 1649 року у польській історіографії першої половини ХХ ст., а зокрема облоги козацькими військами Збаража та битви під Зборовим, вичленуванні різноманітних стереотипів, шаблонів та історичних міфів, які використовувалися у змалюванні цих подій. Проаналізувати підходи польських науковців до зображення різноманітних історичних персоналій, створення із них виховних ідеалів героїв батьківщини чи антигероїв для молодого покоління поляків. Вивчити різноплановість підходів істориків до аналізу обставин укладення та умов Зборівського мирного договору. Розглянути візії польських вчених на міжнародний контекст подій 1649 року, на бачення впливів на козацтво різних зовнішньополітичних сил. Методологія досліджень спирається на наукові принципи історичної науки, а саме історизму, об'єктивізму, системності та верифікації, наукового конструктивізму, а також на загальнонаукові принципи аналізу, синтезу й узагальнення. Використовуються спеціально-історичні методи: історико-генетичний, історико-порівняльний, історико-типологічний. Наукова новизна дослідження полягає у висвітленні цілого комплексу проблем, які підіймалися польськими вченими у першій половині ХХ ст. при конструюванні образу подій польсько-українського протистояння у 1649 році. Звертається увага на ідейні підходи істориків та їх політичні переконання, через призму яких вони розглядали історичні події. Вивчаються історичні міфологеми, стереотипи та шаблони, що заважали на представленні минулого у польській історіографії, і отримали свій відгук в історичній свідомості поляків та усьому подальшому розвитку студій над історією польсько-українських взаємин в польській науці.Висновки. Події польсько-української війни 1649 року стали знаковими у представленні польськими дослідниками образу Хмельниччини. Основні акценти на них були поставлені ще у кінці ХІХ ст. польським істориком Л. Кубалею та письменником Г. Сінкевичем і продовжили активно розвиватись історіографією першої половини ХХ ст. Значний вплив на їх зображення мали виховні ідеали польського суспільства у його бездержавний період, які слугували «зміцненню сердець» народу. Після І світової війни на підходи вчених до історичного матеріалу наклалися їх ідеологічні установки зумовлені прихильністю до того чи того політичного табору ІІ Речі Посполитої, а зокрема ідеології націонал-демократів або табору маршала Ю. Пілсудського. Через їх призму розглядався міжнародний контекст події, у т. ч. впливи Кримського ханства, Османської імперії чи Московського царства. Також політичні візії дослідників впливали на бачення ними внутрішніх процесів у середовищі українського народу, а зокрема формування політичної нації та державотворчі процеси. Особливо цікавим є нашарування міфологічних архетипів у представленні різних фактів військової кампанії, що перекладались на формування антиукраїнських стереотипів і фобій. Багато уваги польські дослідники та митці присвятили творенню із постаті князя Єремії Вишневецького ідеалу героя-захисника вітчизни та зразкового представника шляхетського «сарматського народу». У контексті аналізу значення та наслідків Зборівського мирного договору історики розглядали самі обставини й процеси трансформації польсько-українського конфлікту, його внутрішні соціальні та культурні стимули.

The article analyzes the state of the study in the contemporary historiographical discourse of the problem of self-organization of Ukrainian public life in the second half of the ХІХth – the beginning of the XXth century. It has been found that democratization of the political system and renewal of the methodological tools provided an opportunity for historians to view the social life of the given historical period on the basis of a synergistic methodology of self-organization of social systems. It has been discovered that the historiographical position on the dynamics of social self-organization of the Ukrainians ranging from cultural life to the institution of political parties is considered legitimate among scholars. It has been proved that in contemporary historiography the processes of the contemporary self-organization of the Ukrainian society are considered in three specific historical areas, namely socio-civic, national-political and spiritual-cultural, the relationship between which was sometimes both consistent and synchronous. The development of them demonstrated the emergence of new organizational forms of social self-organization and institutionalization of civil society and political system in Ukraine in the XIXth century. Studying both theoretical and methodological, as well as definite historical dimensions of the Ukrainian national movement, the researchers agree that the cultural and educational content of national revival under the influence of objective circumstances has evolved into political one. Much attention is given to the analysis of the historians' vision of the content of socio-civic self-organization, which was represented by the development of public organizations and movements grounded on the ideas of civil society but lacked political requirements. Among them scientists single out such factors as hlopomanstvo, social movement, organization "Prosvita", the establishment of Shevchenko scientific society, the publication of socially significant newspapers and journals ("Gromada", "Kievskaia Starina", "Delo", "Zoria"), the establishment of a cooperative movement ("Dnister", "The farmer"). The dynamics of the social organization have determined the politicization of the national movement, which allows scientists to speak about national and political self-organization. Establishment of political parties, active participation of the Ukrainians in the activities of the imperial representative bodies of the government, the spread of social and democratic political ideology, the emergence of political leadership and others are considered its institutional representatives. Researchers emphasize that in the late ХІХth and early XXth centuries, national revival entered the political stage, which became a prerequisite for the beginning of the Ukrainian National Democratic Revolution of 1917–1921. It has been found out that the concept "self-organization" reveals the essence of the socio-political and socio-cultural processes of the time, since the Ukrainians established cultural and educational societies, public organizations and political parties contrary to the imperial and anti-Ukrainian policy of the Austro-Hungarian and Russian empires. It was outlined that the spiritual and cultural aspects of self-organization were illustrated by the activities of Ukrainian cultural and educational societies, the development of Ukrainian periodicals, the commemoration of the anniversaries of Ukrainian writers and artists, the activities of Ukrainian theater, etc. ; В статье проанализировано состояние изучения в современном историографическом дискурсе проблемы самоорганизации общественной жизни украинского народа во второй половине XIX – начале ХХ в. Выяснено, что демократизация политического строя и обновления методологического инструментария позволили историками рассматривать общественную жизнь очерченного периода на основе синергетической методологии о самоорганизации социальных систем. Выявлено, что легитимизированной среди ученых есть историографическая позиция о динамике общественной самоорганизации украинцев от культурной жизни до институциирования политических партий. Доказано, что в современной историографии процессы самоорганизации украинского общества исследованного периода рассматриваются в трех конкретно-исторических плоскостях: общественно-гражданской, национально-политической и духовно-культурной. Освещено видение историками содержания общественно-гражданской самоорганизации, которая была представлена развитием общественных организаций и движений, в основе которых были идеи гражданского общества, однако не было политических требований. К ним ученые относят хлопоманство, громадовское движение, организацию «Просвит», основания НОШ, издание общественно значимых газет и журналов («Громада», «Киевская старина», «Дело», «Заря»), начало кооперативного движения («Днестр», «Сельский хозяин»). К институциональным репрезентам национально-политической самоорганизации историки относят организацию политических партий, активное участие украинцев в деятельности имперских представительных органов власти, распространение социал-демократической политической идеологии, появление политического лидерства и тому подобное. Определены, что духовно-культурные аспекты самоорганизации были иллюстрированы деятельностью украинских культурно-просветительских обществ, развитием украинской периодики, празднованием юбилейных дат украинских писателей и художников, деятельностью украинского театра. Выяснено, что концепт «самоорганизация» выявляет сущность общественно-политических и социокультурных процессов, ведь украинцы создавали культурно-просветительские общества, общественные организации и политические партии вопреки имперской и антиукраинской политике Российской и Австро-Венгерской империй. ; У статті проаналізовано стан вивчення в сучасному історіографічному дискурсі проблеми самоорганізації суспільного життя українського народу в другій половині ХІХ – на початку ХХ ст. З'ясовано, що демократизація політичного ладу та оновлення методологічного інструментарію дали змогу істориками розглядати суспільне життя окресленого періоду на основі синерґетичної методології про самоорганізацію соціальних систем. Виявлено, що легітимізованою серед учених є історіографічна позиція про динаміку суспільної самоорганізації українців від культурницького життя до інституціювання політичних партій. Доведено, що в сучасній історіографії процеси тогочасної самоорганізації українського суспільства розглядаються у трьох конкретно-історичних площинах: суспільно-громадянській, національно-політичній і духовно-культурній. Висвітлено бачення істориками змісту суспільно-громадянської самоорганізації, яка була представлена розвитком суспільних організацій та рухів, в основі яких були ідеї громадянського суспільства, проте не було політичних вимог. До них учені відносять хлопоманство, громадівський рух, організацію «Просвіт», заснування НТШ, видання суспільно значущих газет, журналів та часописів («Громада», «Киевская старина», «Діло», «Зоря»), започаткування кооперативного руху («Дністер», «Сільський господар»). До інституційних репрезентантів національно-політичної самоорганізації історики відносять заснування політичних партій, активну участь українців у діяльності імперських представницьких органів влади, поширення соціал-демократичної політичної ідеології, появу політичного лідерства тощо. Окреслено, що духовно-культурні аспекти самоорганізації були ілюстровані діяльністю українських культурно-просвітницьких товариств, розвитком української періодики, відзначенням ювілейних дат українських письменників та митців, діяльністю українського театру тощо. З'ясовано, що концепт «самоорганізація» виявляє сутність тогочасних суспільно-політичних та соціокультурних процесів, адже українці утворювали культурно-просвітницькі товариства, громадські організації та політичні партії всупереч імперській та антиукраїнській політиці Російської та Австро-Угорської імперій.

Стаття присвячена дослідженню впливу творчості М. В. Гоголя на літературу слов'янських народів — чеського, польського, словацького, болгарського, словенського. Показано, що твори письменника сприяли росту ідейно-естетичного рівня слов'янських літератур, стали основою для створення нового літературного жанру — соціального роману. Творчість Гоголя стала для тогочасних письменників джерелом інтересу, натхнення і новим поглядом на зображення навколишньої дійсності. Доведено, що завдяки зображенню нових героїв з народу — з їхніми радощами і стражданнями, з простою, "неправильною" мовою — Гоголь розставив акценти та визначив проблематику всієї наступної російської літератури, літератури слов'янських народів. Наукова новизна статті полягає в тому, що вперше синтезовано вплив унікального таланту Гоголя на слов'янські літератури та показано, що Україна, її культура стали постійною літературною темою слов'янських літератур ХІХ століття. ; Gogol's genius is known all over the world. Mykola Gogol created another world with his incomparable imagination, with his language he made a revolution in literature, with his Ukrainian manner he surprised and put bright accents on the images. V. G. Belinsky called him a kind of school in literature, which opened a new path for young and experienced writers. The theme of the infl uence of the writer's artistic heritage on the Russian and world literature and culture is inexhaustible and relevant at all times. The objective of this article is to understand the impact of M. Gogol's works for the literature of Slavic peoples – Czech, Polish, Slovak, Bulgarian, Slovenian. In the 1830s–1840s, Gogol's works were an impetus for creative pursuits and actions not only for the Russian writers, composers, artists, theater personalities, but also for literary and cultural personalities of the Slavic world. Gogol taught foreign writers to openly and boldly look at the surrounding reality, not trying to embellish it. He was also not indifferent to the natural beauty of Ukraine, describing life, rural landscapes, ceremonies, holidays, clothes of boys and girls, juicy and fair language with great affection. Gogol was interesting and popular in the Slavic environment. He was a contemporary of the national revival of many Slavic peoples who adopted best foreign experience. In the world literature, the Czechs gave a positive assessment of Gogol before others. The fi rst work in the Czech translation was the novella "Taras Bulba". I. S. Hynek reworked the novella into a drama that was fi rst put on the Czech stage in 1865. In the second half of the 19th century, almost all of Gogol's works were translated into Czech and widely known. Gogol's prose was widespread and excited curiosity in Czechia; it was actively translated and studied in schools by the children of immigrants. The researchers K. Mochulsky and D. Chyzhevsky noted the baroque "ambiguity" and grotesqueness of the writer's works, his unsurpassed humor. The comedies "Marriage" and "The Government Inspector" paraded at all emigrant theaters. In Poland, Gogol's works became known in the mid- 1830s. The writers J. Kraszewski, J. Korzeniowski, A. Marcinkowski, H. Sienkiewicz wrote their works under the infl uence of Gogol, trying to portray the heroes and reveal their characters in his style. Gogol's novella "Taras Bulba" was translated into Polish by Petro Glowatsky and published in Lviv in 1850, after which the Polish novelist Henryk Sienkiewicz used Gogol's characteristic description of Ukrainian steppes in the creation of the novel "With Fire and Sword" (1882). In the 1920s–1930s, Gogol's works in Poland began to be widely published in translations by J. Tuwim and staged in theaters. Gogol's works in Slovakia gained popularity in the late 1860s. Gogol's romantic works became of interest for the Slovak writers due to the folklore motifs and historical themes. The borrowing of motifs, situations, composition, and portrayal of the characters of Gogol's novella "Taras Bulba" is noticeable in the historical novella "The Holy Spirit" by Ján Kalinčiak. The development of Slovak prose was modeled on Gogol, writers began to borrow plots for their works from Gogol, trying to understand the nature of human. The use of folklore, subtle humor, descriptions of customs, traditions, the ability to reveal comic aspects of life, principles of character creation – all of this impressed Slovak writers and was actively refl ected in their works. These trends can be seen in M. Kukučín, A. Domanytsky, J. Kalinčiak, J. Jesenský, J. Tajovský and others. The productions of Gogol's works are very successful on the professional and amateur stages of Slovakia. Bulgarian writers admired Gogol. Following his works was for them a kind of literary school. The poet P. Slaveykov became a follower of Gogol the classic and defended the principles of realism. He also imitated sentimental and romantic heroes, combining different trends. The novella "Taras Bulba", translated by N. Bonchev, became for the Bulgarians a symbol of the struggle for liberation from the fi ve-hundred-year Turkish expansion. Deep interest in the works by Gogol is noticeable in Slovenia. Between 1880 and 1890, the number of publications about him and translations of his works in various journals exceeded all expectations and numbered more than 250. Gogol's heroes gained archetypal, symbolic meaning and turned into immaterial images of world literature. Gogol's works attracted the attention of literary personalities from different countries with skill and a true portrayal of reality. It was considered an ornament and promoted the ideological and aesthetic level of Slavic literatures. The writer was able to organize all Slavic literatures, determined their direction and objective, and laid the groundwork for the creation of a new literary genre – the social novel. According to I. Panaev, Gogol appeared in the literary arena at a time when the need for a "new word" and the participation of literature in social life was already ripe in society, as heroes with "rhetorical phrases" were already boring. Gogol portrayed new heroes from the common people with their pleasures and affl ictions, in plain, "wrong" language, highlighting key points and identifying the issues of all subsequent Russian and Slavic literature. He joined the creation of a new novel school based on a true portrayal of the surrounding reality. Gogol's powerful word echoes in the culture of many peoples in the present-day world.

Das Dissertationsprojekt untersucht das Zusammenspiel von Klängen, materieller Kultur, Rassismus und Polizeigewalt in Brasilien aus dekolonialer Perspektive. Dazu nutzt diese Arbeit Theorien aus den Kulturwissenschaften beziehungsweise den Sound Studies, um kontingente Auseinandersetzungen zu analysieren, bei denen Designobjekte und -verfahren als materiell-diskursive Knotenpunkte für die Normalisierung und Fortschreibung rassifizierter Gewalt dienen. Um sich mit den Bedingungen dafür zu befassen, wird Design – sowohl als wissenschaftliches Feld als auch Praxis – in dieser Arbeit als ein materiell-diskursiver Apparat betrachtet, der nicht nur die Ergebnisse eines Forschungsprojektes, sondern auch seine Voraussetzungen einbezieht. Der Schwerpunkt dieser Dissertation ist die Auseinandersetzung mit "listening anxieties" (Hörängsten). Ein solcher Begriff taucht mit den Aspekten von politischem Konsens, Überwachung und Regelverhalten auf. Die Zusammenfügung dieser drei Begriffe in institutionellen, designerisch gestalteten wie auch alltäglichen Verfahren wird hier mit "Apparatus of Auditory Governance" (Apparat der akustischen Machtführung) bezeichnet. Im engeren Sinne werden akustische Machtführungen an drei Beispielen aus dem 21. Jahrhundert Brasiliens in den Blick genommen: als Erstes wird die von der staatlichen Parallelmacht der Militärpolizei geführte Kriminalisierung von Jukeboxes in einer der sogenannten pazifizierten Favelas in Rio de Janeiro untersucht; anschließend, wie der Aufbau einer sieben Kilometer langen akustischen Mauer in Rio als ein Stadt- und Rassentrennungsmittel betrachtet werden muss. In der letzten Fallstudie wird analysiert, wie der polizeiliche Einsatz von Knallgranaten zur Erzeugung von Nachtruhe in den benachteiligten Nachbarschaften in São Paulo Rassengewalt erzeugt. Dabei leistet diese Arbeit auch einen Beitrag zum designhistorischen Diskurs,,indem die kolonialen Grundvoraussetzungen des Designfeldes untersucht werden, wobei gleichzeitig eine dekolonisierende und klangorientierte Methodik für Designforschung und Sound Studies genutzt/entwickelt wird. So kann nachgewiesen, wie materielle Bedingungen der Klanggewalt, beispielsweise durch Architekturgestaltung, temporäre Klangobjekte bis hin zur Entwicklung von speziellen Soundwaffen, einer Art von ontologischem Design (Anne-Marie Willis) zuarbeiten, auch wenn das koloniale und rassifizierte Ethos der designten Klanggewalt sowohl diskursiv als auch materiell weitgehend unsichtbar gemacht wird. Um eine solche ontologische Verfasstheit letztlich überhaupt zu erkennen, wird gefordert, dass sich Designer_innen als Produzent_innen rassifizierter, kolonialer Phänomene in ihrer Praxis betrachten. ; This dissertation attends to the intersection of sound, material culture, racism, and police violence in Brazil from a decolonizing perspective. With a focus on theories informed by cultural and sound studies, it unravels the contingent arrangements through which certain designed objects and practices function as material-discursive nodes for the normalization and perpetuation of racialized violences. To explore these ideas, it reads design—a field of knowledge and a set of practices—as a material-discursive apparatus, accountable for not only the results but also the conditions of possibility for any research endeavor. The main driving force of this work is the identification and evincing of 'listening anxieties.' These emerge through enactments of political consensus, policing, and compliance; the articulation of these three in institutional, designerly, as well as everyday practices is what this research identifies as the Apparatus of Auditory Governance (or AAG). More specifically, I look at three manifestations of these auditory governances in contemporary Brazil—from the early 2000s to the judiciary Coup d'Etat of late 2016. These range from the criminalization of jukeboxes by a Military Police acting outside the scope of written law in so-called 'pacified' neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro, to the construction of a seven kilometer-long acoustic barrier in the city as a device for urban segregation, to the deployment of sound bombs as devices for the enforcement of silence by the same police force in São Paulo. The articulation of auditory governances, however, is not fixed; rather, it shifts and mutates to account for distinct and diverse experiences of listening. These shifts are what this work calls earviews: a conceptual orientation which determines the "listening point" where narratives and perceptions of auditory reality unfold from. The AAG, articulated and deconstructed at the intersection of distinct and conflicting earviews, forms the main method of this dissertation, and is of particular interest for sound and design studies. By understanding the earview as an asset of and for designing, it is possible to interrogate the role of design in the enforcement, reproduction, and normalization of sonic violences, and the erasure of other(ed) narratives of listening. Rather than simply evincing the hegemony of normative—qua racialized—earviews, I intervene by reading them through first-person accounts and storytelling stemming from fieldwork with artists and activists in Brazil, as well as from two movies by Brazilian directors—O Som ao Redor (2012) and Branco Sai, Preto Fica (2014). These intersections are further complemented by a semi-fictional narrative created throughout five collective pedagogical sessions fusing designing and fabulation. This format, named "Yarn Sessions," is my methodological proposition for design research in this work. This research started out by posing three broad questions relating to the connection between auditory practices—i.e. sounds and their social, cultural, and political engagements—and the design of listening devices. It asked: what is the contribution of design to the politics of mediated listening and its devices? What might be the possible, probable and/or preferable enactments of the political agency of designed listening devices? These initial questions are all addressed by this work, and have shifted from their initial form as a general investigation on the entanglement of design and listening, to offer an inquiry and an intervention on violences enacted with and through sound. This work thus participates in a re-historicization of the colonial underpinnings of design, while at the same time offering a decolonizing methodological proposition for design research and design studies with a sound and listening-oriented locus. It demonstrates that the material conditions of sonic violence—from architectural planning to transitional/illegalized sound objects to the development of weaponry—are a form of ontological design (cf. Anne-Marie Willis) which succeeds by making its own colonial and racialized ethos discursively and materially invisible. This ontological enunciation demands the accountability of the designer as both producer and reproducer of racialized/colonial phenomena in the making of their own practices. Yet this research does not align itself completely with discourses from the "ontological turn" or "new materialisms" in philosophy (cf. Karen Barad), insofar as these often undermine and erase the role played by coloniality and "racialized assemblages" (cf. Alexander Weheliye) to the constitution of its own ontologies and epistemologies. My proposition for design understands the field to constitute in itself an ontoepistemology (cf. Willis, Gloria Anzaldúa), albeit reading such ontological alignments through decolonial and critical race studies. In so doing, it opens up a new field of inquiry in which sound studies and decolonial thought inform designerly inquiries into material culture not only for the evincing of specific material-discursive phenomena (e.g. sonic violences), but also for intervening on them with intersectional and decolonizing frameworks.

В рассмотрении конкретного драматургического произведения существенным было использование театрально-критического анализа. Новизна работы. Впервые комплексно с использованием политологической методологии на основе искусствоведческого анализа исследовано деятельность театров в Кувейте во второй половине ХХ в. В научный оборот вводится важная информация о творчество Саад альФараджа, осуществлено искусствоведческий анализ его пьесы «Традиция – другая природа». Выводы. Выявлено, что в Кувейте все основные театры находились под контролем правительственной цензуры, которая, по наблюдениям аль-Фараджа, считала нужным использовать театр только для распространения культуры «путем представления случайных и неподходящих примеров из репертуара мирового театра».

The inter-war Germany was the one of the countries where Ukrainian political and powerful intellectual forces – Ukrainian intelligence, scientists, artists and the studying youth concentrated. In 1920–1930 years Ukrainian students were studying in many higher educational institutions in Germany: Frederick William University in Berlin, Technische Hochschule in Berlin, Higher Trade School in Berlin, Higher Agricultural School in Berlin, Higher Veterinary School in Berlin, Technische Hochschule in Danzig, Alberta University in Koenigsberg, University of Goettingen, University of Kiel, University of Leipzig, University of Tübingen etc.In almost the all universities where Ukrainians studied, they established and actively worked in Ukrainian student centers: The Ukrainian Students Union ―Osnova» (―Basis») in Danzig, The Ukrainian students Society ―Chornomore» (Black Sea) in Danzig, The Society of Ukrainian students at the University of Berlin, The Association of Ukrainian Students in Germany in Berlin, The Society ―Osnova» (―Basis») in Berlin, The Association of agronomists, foresters and veterinarians in Germany in Berlin, The Committee of Ukrainian students from Green Wedge in Berlin, The Society of Ukrainian students at the Alberta University in Königsberg etc. In the mid-1920-s Ukrainian Student Societies functioning in Germany united in the Union of Ukrainian Student Organizations in Germany (later the Ukrainian Student Organizations Union in Germany and the Free City of Danzig), which in turn was part of the Central Union of Ukrainian Students in Prague.In 1928, the Ukrainian academic society was established at the Ukrainian Scientific Institute in Berlin, which functioned until 1932. [spa] El hilo conductor de la tesis doctoral es el análisis del fenómeno del patronazgo español en Cerdeña en época barroca, a partir de las obras de arte que encargaron los virreyes y obispos de la isla. Estos personajes, escogidos directamente por el rey por su probada fidelidad a la Corona, formaban la élite que gozaba de la mayor visibilidad política y económica a nivel local. Conocedores del valor del arte como instrumento de poder, algunos de ellos patrocinaron importantes empresas artísticas durante su estancia sarda, como la decoración de iglesias y capillas, la ejecución de monumentos funerarios, el encargo de pinturas y esculturas para sus residencias particulares o la organización de fiestas efímeras. Algunas de estas obras, por su gran envergadura, son consideradas unánimemente como los ejemplos más interesantes de barroco en Cerdeña, por lo cual no son inéditas. Al contrario, a lo largo de las últimas décadas se han hecho avances importantes en su conocimiento, sobre todo gracias a una serie de estudios estilísticos y documentales que han permitido fecharlas e identificar sus autores. No obstante, faltaba una investigación que hiciese hincapié en su contenido intelectual, vinculándolas a los personajes que las patrocinaron y explorando de manera sistemática aspectos como su deseo de expresar riqueza o poder, la propaganda religiosa o política, la identidad nacional o cultural, etc. El objetivo principal de la tesis, pues, ha sido el de realizar un estudio de conjunto que abarque la labor de promoción artística de los patronos más importantes que residieron en Cerdeña, trazando una visión panorámica y evaluando el peso del arte que se hizo por su encargo. Por ello, el fundamento de la investigación se encuentra en los estudios de patronazgo artístico, que reivindican el papel del comitente en la gestación de la obra de arte, y las teorías que interpretan la imagen como documento histórico o testimonio visual, cuyo principal representante es Peter Burke. El diseño metodológico se ha desarrollado a través de dos fases paralelas. La primera ha consistido en la observación atenta y minuciosa de las obras, que ha sido acompañada por un riguroso análisis iconográfico-iconológico, para "leer" correctamente su significado simbólico. La segunda se ha resuelto en un trabajo de búsqueda y consulta de documentación primaria y secundaria relacionada con los patronos. Una vez recogidos los datos, se ha realizado una operación de análisis crítico para establecer los vínculos entre los materiales encontrados y las obras de arte. El trabajo de campo se ha realizado inicialmente utilizando los recursos disponibles en la ciudad de Barcelona, extendiéndose posteriormente a varios archivos y bibliotecas de ciudades como Cagliari, Madrid, Toledo, Ávila, Génova, Roma, Nápoles y Palermo. Es decir, teniendo en cuenta el perfil internacional de los patronos estudiados, que a lo largo de sus carreras políticas y eclesiásticas eran desplazados en distintos territorios bajo dominio español, se ha tratado fundamentalmente de ir siguiendo sus pasos. La decisión de centrar las búsquedas documentales en torno a las figuras de los comitentes, y no únicamente en los artistas, como se había hecho en la práctica totalidad de las investigaciones anteriores, ha permitido localizar numerosas fuentes inéditas que han ayudado en el proceso de lectura de la imagen y al mismo tiempo han revelado que los casos de patronazgo español en Cerdeña fueron más numerosos de los que se conservan hoy en día. La puesta en común de los casos particulares ha permitido apreciar la diversidad de los intereses artísticos de los virreyes y obispos estudiados, pero a la vez identificar divergencias y convergencias entre sus políticas culturales y, tras la correspondiente evaluación crítica, delinear unas tendencias comunes y proponer un modelo interpretativo del fenómeno del patronazgo español en Cerdeña. ; [eng] This thesis analyses the artistic policy of the most important patrons who lived in Sardinia during the Baroque age: the viceroys and the Spanish bishops. During their stay in Cagliari, these aristocrats, chosen by the king for their loyalty to the Crown, promoted and supported many different forms of visual arts. Some of them concentrated on embellishing the town's cathedral and royal palace, others made important donations to churches, others promoted the ephemeral arts and others acquired paintings, sculptures, relics or devotional objects that afterwards they brought with them back to Spain. Recently several stylistic and documentary studies have been published on these artworks, allowing to date them and to identify their authors. However, most researchers have focused their attentions on the artists, so that very little was known about their clients. The principal aim of the thesis, thus, is to propose an overall reflection on Spanish patronage in Sardinia. As far as the methodology is concerned, the research process started by observing and examining the artworks using the iconographic-iconological method, in order to investigate their intellectual and symbolic meaning. Afterwards, I carried out a meticulous research of primary and secondary sources related to the patrons, with the purpose of proposing a new approach to their artistic interests and establishing the links between their political and ecclesiastical career and the artworks they commissioned. The data collection process began in the archives and libraries of Barcelona. The second step was extending the research to other cities, such as Cagliari, Madrid, Toledo, Avila, Genova, Rome, Naples and Palermo. In fact, the Spanish viceroys and bishops were often displaced in different territories within the Spanish empire. In order to fully understand their artistic commissions, thus, it is necessary to "follow their footsteps" and consult widely scattered sources. Finally I analysed and compared the data with the purpose of offering a panoramic view of the artistic policy of viceroys and bishops. The analysis of individual case studies shows diversities, but at the same times reveals similarities within their artistic interests, allowing proposing an interpretative model of the phenomenon of Spanish patronage in Sardinia.

Nous tentons de cerner l'organisation et la mise en œuvre d'actions culturelles et artistiques dans des contextes sociaux de soins à partir de deux principales sources empiriques : des débats organisés en Bretagne, en 2011, sur la question de la culture et de la santé réunissant des professionnels de ces deux secteurs d'activités ; l'organisation d'activités culturelles et artistiques dans un Centre Hospitalier Spécialisé à Rennes. Dans un premier temps, nous soulignons que, malgré l'existence de la convention nationale « Culture-Santé », l'institutionnalisation de la culture et de l'art dans ces institutions de soins n'a rien d'évident. L'importation d'activités artistiques et culturelles dans ces contextes sociaux engendre des effets exprimés en termes de difficultés à mettre en oeuvre ces activités du fait de la hiérarchie, du fait aussi des réactions des personnels soigants, susceptibles d'être lus à partir d'une logique organisationnelle. De ce point de vue, ces expressions traduisent la mise en rapport entre deux formes d'organisation du travail, soit une organisation bureaucratique (spécifique aux établissements de soins) et une organisation par projets (spécifique aux activités culturelles et artistiques). En réaction, les personnels en charge de la culture au sein de ces structures de soins se saisissent d'un diagnostic de « mal-être » au travail pour enrôler leurs collègues en sollicitant leurs compétences culturelles et artistiques. Or, ils se confrontent souvent aux effets de cette imputation hâtive quant à la familiarité de tout un chacun avec les arts et la culture, lesquels s'expriment par des comportements d'évitement, de raillerie, d'indifférence, faisant passer ces professionnels du soins du statut de public potentiel à celui de non-public. C'est que les personnels en charge de la culture dans ces établissements de soins se font le relais d'une conception universelle de l'art et la culture qui pourtant ne répond à aucune neutralité sociale. Aussi, pour éviter la critique de l'élitisme, ils mise sur la promotion de la diversité, mais omettent qu'elle nécessite aussi d'être négociée. Enfin, professionnels de la santé et de la culture se rejoignent pour spécifier l'art et la culture à l'hôpital d'une part en se démarquant de l'art thérapie et d'autre part en faisant valoir un droit à la culture pour réhabiliter la citoyenneté des patients. Dans un second temps, nous nous intéressons aux activités culturelles et artistiques organisées par le Centre Hospitalier Spécialisé de Rennes parce qu'elles semblent moins exposées aux résistances des différents personnels et surtout parce que, dès le milieu des années quatre-vingt, des professionnels d'un de ses services ont manifesté un réél intérêt pour ces activités jusqu'à créer une association culturelle impulsant une politique culturelle au sein de cet établissement. Pour mieux le comprendre, nous soulignons que ce Centre Hospitalier Spécialisé était l'héritier de transformations plus générales, c'est-à-dire d'une série de réformes publiques en matière d'organisation territoriale (un modèle d'organisation par secteurs géographiques) et d'une nouvelle philosophie du soin psychiatrique (intervenir à tous les stades de la maladie – du dépistage, à l'hospitalisation, à la réinsertion sociale – permettant de concevoir l'hospitalisation comme un temps parmi d'autres de la prise en charge). Dans ce contexte, la création de l'association culturelle du CHS de Rennes présente une philosophie et un mode de fonctionnement qui concrétisent une mise en pratique du courant de la psychothérapie institutionnelle en matière de soins psychiatriques. Ce dernier, issu des mouvements anti-psychiatriques qui dénoncent le modèle de l'institution asilaire, repose sur une autre conception du patient (non plus un « objet », mais un « sujet), de la maladie (non exclusivement médicale mais aussi sociale), et cherche à inventer des modalités d'actions qui questionnent les relations sociales qu'imposent les statuts de soignants et de soignés. Ainsi, les représentants de l'association culturelle de ce CHS se font les relais d'une conception originale de la culture et de l'art. En effet, la culture se démarque d'une conception positiviste pour être entendue en ce qu'elle vient spécifier ce qu'il y a d'humain en l'homme. L'art n'est plus le monopole des artistes, à tout le moins la créativité et la création. Pour preuve, le délire du malade est tout autant créatif et création en ce qu'il organise une créativité, mais sans rencontre, c'est-à-dire sans modification, altération de soi. Or, les activités artistiques organisées par le CHS sont qualifiées de rencontres, c'est-à-dire d'occasions de changements, de part et d'autre, parce qu'elles provoquent des « irruptions », des réactions de surprise, d'étonnement, de la « subversion », susceptibles de rompre la circularité dans laquelle s'emmure le patient. Dans un troisième temps, nous portons l'attention sur le fonctionnement de l'association et de la commission culturelle de ce CHS et sur les changements relevés dans le comportement des patients lors d'ateliers artistiques. Concernant le fonctionnement de l'association et de la commission culturelle de ce CHS, nous montrons qu'il s'agit d'un temps et d'un espace dans lequel se choisissent et se pratiquent, entre professionnels et patients, des activités culturelles et artistiques visant à pondérer les effets de l'enfermement involontaire, c'est-à-dire ce que Erving Goffman nomme les mortifications de la personnalité. À ces occasions, les patients seraient incités à négocier leur singularité et, les personnels, à faire l'expérience, auprès de ces patients, d'une réversibilité de l'échange, c'est-à-dire de la possibilité d'alterner, selon les situations, prise en charge et délégation. La tenue d'ateliers de danse, orchestrée par un chorégraphe à partir des principes de l'improvisation et d'une méconnaissance assumée des pathologies des participants, informe sur des changements de comportements de certains d'entre eux, notamment en termes de proxémie et de contact physique. Ces modifications peuvent être appréhendées comme l'exercice d'une non-coïncidence des patients de cet établissement avec leur statut social de malade à l'instar de ce que démontre Erving Goffman concernant l'irréductibilité de tout un chacun à ses statuts sociaux, y compris dans les institutions les plus totalitaires et que nous avons suggéré d'expliquer par une conception anthropologique de la personne, entendue comme ressort, capacité de mise à distance.

Study and critical interpretation of the Ugo Foscolo's Epistolary Ugo Foscolo (1778-1827), one of the most interesting authors of Italian literature between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, lived during a period that was rich in historical events and political upheavals which had inescapable consequences on the ethical and civil role of the artist and simultaneous new fervour in the literary circles with an unprecedented opening towards genres and styles that were capable of attracting and conquering a larger audience than before. But Foscolo also has a strong reference to the classical culture and preceding poetic tradition which examines traverses and modernizes with excellent results. All this reverberates in his Epistolario which deservedly holds our attention for its abundance of finds, meaning in the contents and beautiful aesthetics. Despite being a work that has always been used by "Foscolists" for biographies and documentaries, the Epistolario, has not been examined through a theoretical-critical lens, apart from the beautiful treatise by Paola Ambrosino, which is a unicum in the vast Foscolian library and dates back to the [already] distant past of the Eighties of the previous century. Hence this work titled Studio e interpretazione critica dell' Epistolario di Ugo Foscolo [Study and critical interpretation of the Ugo Foscolo's Epistolary] was started with the intention of highlighting the characteristics of the writings of the genre, the richness of its relations with the work, the variations evidenced in the time frame of its extension (1794-1827) and above all the high literariness which makes it an essential work in the varied Foscolian corpus. Before entering the heart of the research, we have carried out a survey on the results of the most recent epistolography; considered the characteristics of the editorial work that is provided to us for our work and also referred to the sequence of the reconstruction of the Epistolario and the laborious work of the first editors. This corresponds to the chapters from 1.1 to 1.4 of the First Part in the index. Thus, we have organized our work in two phases: In the first part, we organized a classification of the letters (Chap 1.5) and then proceeded with their analysis by class. In particular, we have identified six groups or classes of letters based on the classification criteria of addressee and primary topic (corresponding to the headings of the chapters of the Second Part in the Index): Letters to family (Chapter 2.1), Love letters (Chapter 2.2), Letters to friends (Chapter 2.3), Political and military themed letters (Chapter 2.4), Literary letters (Chapter 2.5), Philosophical letters (Chapter 2.6). In this phase, our task was a thematic, and partly stylistic, study done "horizontally" to underline the ideas, the different aspects of the personality, the psychological-affective tone of the writer in different situations, trying to gather the sentiments, the relationships with the different correspondents and much more as a living experience translated as writings and style of the manner of the recorded communications in the letter. In the second phase of our work, we looked at the Epistolario from a diachronic perspective with regards to a historicist profile, proceeding with a "vertical" rereading of the Foscolian correspondence in continuous and flexible relation with a different society; the arrival of other literary, cultural and political experiences; the intrigue of the dramatic sequence of human events that the author went through. Most importantly, in this phase of the study, as illustrated in the Third Part of the thesis, and with the help of the preceding analysis, we have been able to highlight the intersections and the tangent points of the Epistolario with the elaborate works of Foscolo during his lifetime. It has nonetheless overturned or at least attempted to overturn the usual role of vassalage for which the epistolary and private writings was usually required, from support and illumination to works that were meant to be published. In this case, the letter has remained the principal and undisputed protagonist of the study, threating its relationships with other texts by the author as operations to reveal and evaluate the intrinsic significance. For this we have also give ample space for long, at times extensive, citations of the Foscolian letters, convinced that the richness, the aesthetic value of the epistolary prose of the writer would "directly" document as best and concrete evidence what we proceeded to affirm. The study undertaken, as we have illustrated in the Conclusion of the thesis, has permitted us many historical-critical and interpretative observations, enriched the biographical profile of author with certain interesting notations, explored the physiognomy of the relationships with many of his different correspondents and above all has confirmed the beginning of our belief that Foscolo consciously used the letter as an art form. The Io epistolary of the author tells us of the trajectory of a life which , though short, was tormented and unsettled, dominated by passions and spent to write almost until the last day. He employs a new and unusual art with mastery, that of expressing himself , moving from one subject to the next, guided by a succession of thoughts, an impulse of the heart, the change of emotions, the small interferences while writing. This loses its way, which recalls the Sternian digression of the Sentimental Journey, makes the epistolary passages unexpected and unpredictable but always congruous, perspicuous to structure the text, and re-establish its affective and declaratory character with a powerfulness that conquers the addressee and us readers. The writing is governed by a unique style, where the force of the idea searches for words and this used in its harmonious completeness – words which «say things» never empty never an end to themselves- dominate the world, objects, relationships, situations makes one penetrate the passion, the breath of the soul of the writer. For all this one can discern an essential unitarity; a completeness of meaning and veracity of voice; a historical, literary and aesthetic value; a strong capacity for emotional involvement in the Epistolario which make it a very important catalogue of work in the Foscolian macro text, deserving of further analysis and worthy of a wider circulation amongst the public.

Die meisten amerikanischen Autoren, die heute noch über den Holocaust schreiben, sind keine Zeitzeugen. Ihr Wissen beruht auf Repräsentationen. Es ist "second hand". Weder die "Rhetorik des Faktischen" noch die "Poetik des Traumas" scheint der Darstellung dieses Wissens angemessen. Es verlangt statt nach einer Ästhetik, die eine direkte Begegnung mit den Fakten oder dem Trauma des Holocaust suggeriert, nach einer Darstellungsform, in der sich Konstruiertheit und Nachträglichkeit ausdrücken. Von den Künstlern, deren Repräsentationen die Grundlage der vorliegenden Untersuchung bilden, ist Paul Celan der einzige Überlebende. Schon Claude Lanzmann erhebt, obwohl er den Weltkrieg im besetzten Frankreich überlebt hat, keinerlei Anspruch mehr auf testimoniale Autorität, und die übrigen vier Autoren sind nach dem Krieg in den USA geboren: Thane Rosenbaum und Melvin Jules Bukiet sind Kinder Überlebender, Jonathan Safran Foer ist Enkel Überlebender und Jonathan Littells unmittelbare Familie hat der Holocaust nicht betroffen. Gemeinsam ist ihren Darstellungen die eingehende implizite und explizite Auseinandersetzung mit der Angemessenheit der eigenen Ästhetik, die sie auch über den Bezug aufs Musikalische führen. Eine Möglichkeit für Literatur, die Nähe bzw. Distanz zu ihrem Gegenstand zu markieren und zu diskutieren, ist die Musikalisierung. Als Musikalisierung bezeichnet man literarische Versuche, eine gleichsam musikalische Erfahrung zu schaffen. Eine Literatur, die sich der Musik annähert, evoziert eine Diskussion über die Vorzüge und Nachteile der literarischen Semiotik gegenüber der musikalischen. Diese liegen vereinfacht gesagt darin, dass Literatur ihren Gegenstand repräsentiert, Musik ihr Gegenstand ist. Es liegt nahe, von einem direkten Zusammenhang von dem testimonialen Anspruch einer Holocaustdarstellung und ihrem Umgang mit Musik auszugehen. Davon, dass sich die Holocaustrepräsentationen Überlebender einer stärker musikalisierten Poetik bedienen, weil sie eine direkte Begegnung mit dem Holocaust bezeugen wollen, wohingegen die Literatur Außenstehender, der Kinder und Enkel der Überlebenden, ihrem vermittelten Wissen durch eine Poetik zu entsprechen sucht, die ausdrücklich von Musikalisierungen Abstand nimmt. Eine Analyse der genannten Darstellungen bestätigt diese Annahme allerdings nur zum Teil. Zwar verzichten Romane wie Rosenbaums The Golems of Gotham, Foers Everything Is Illuminated, Littells Les Bienveillantes sowie Lanzmanns Film Shoah ausdrücklich deshalb auf eine musikalisierte Darstellungsweise, weil sie diese mit dem testimonialen Wissen der Überlebenden identifizieren. Doch der Überlebendenliteratur selber lassen sich nur sehr selten melopoetische Absichten nachweisen, und selbst dann erweisen sich Musikalisierungen, wie in Celans Gedicht "Todesfuge", als in erster Linie metafiktionale und kritische Instrumente. Außerdem gibt es Autoren der zweiten und dritten Generation, die die Konstruiertheit ihres Zeugnisses durch intensive Musikalisierungsversuche betonen. Bukiets Roman After zum Beispiel benutzt Musikalisierungen, die den Leser statt zu einem Re-enactment der traumatischen Vergangenheit zum affektiven Nachvollzug gegenwärtiger Gedenkformen einladen. Die Intention melopoetischer Strategien in Holocaustliteratur ist eine überwiegend kritische: Als metamediale Werkzeuge stellen sie die Angemessenheit einer diskursiven wie einer affektiven Ästhetik in Frage und kritisieren die Unterschlagung traumatischer Schmerzen ebenso wie deren Vereinnahmung. In den vergangenen 25 Jahren ist der Holocaust in den USA zu einer zentralen Metapher des öffentlichen Diskurses geworden, die sieben von zehn Büchern, schätzt Bukiet, zumindest erwähnen. Gleichzeitig wird die Bedeutung des "H word" (Bukiet) immer unklarer. Mitverantwortlich ist eine Ästhetik, die dem Betrachter eine emotionale, affektive und zuweilen sogar körperliche Teilnahme an den schmerzhaften Erfahrungen der Opfer suggeriert. Kritiker wie Charles Maier haben auf die Gefahr hingewiesen, dass solche Identifikation mit den Opfern die soziale und politische Auseinandersetzung mit gegenwärtigen gesellschaftlichen Missständen ersetzen könne. Musikalisierungen, die solche identifikatorischen Effekte verfolgen, aber auch problematisieren können, scheinen auf eine Möglichkeit zu verweisen, wie Holocaustliteratur auf einer gesellschaftlichen Funktion bestehen kann. ; Most American authors who have recently written about the holocaust have never experienced it personally. Their knowledge is based almost exclusively on representations. It is "second hand". To represent such knowledge, neither the "rhetoric of the factual" nor the "poetic of trauma" seems appropriate: Far from requiring an aesthetic that suggests closeness to its object, "second hand testimony" asks for a form of representation that reflects its vicarious and constructive quality. Among the artists whose works form the basis of this study Paul Celan is the only survivor. Claude Lanzmann, although acquainted with the war through the German occupation of France, claims no testimonial knowledge. Finally, Thane Rosenbaum, Melvin Jules Bukiet, Jonathan Safran Foer, and Jonathan Littell were born in post-war America. They are either children (Rosenbaum and Bukiet) or grandchildren (Foer) of survivors, and in Littell's case his immediate family was not personally affected by the holocaust at all. A productive way to mark the various degrees of representational distance is the use of musicalizations. The term musicalization denotes any literary attempt to create a quasi musical experience. Unlike literature, music provides a reenactment rather than a representation. This means that through the use of musicalization literature can imply the wish to no longer represent, but to be its object. Holocaust-literature for instance can, by indulging in or explicitly refraining from the use of musicalization, raise the question of whether a representation or reenactment would be the appropriate way to express a particular degree of testimonial knowledge. It seems safe to assume that there is a link between the claims of testimonial knowledge that a representation of the holocaust makes and the way it evokes music. Survivors who would want to testify a direct encounter with the "Univers concentrationnaire" (David Rousset) would be expected to involve intense forms of musicalization. Texts written by their children or grandchildren, on the other hand, would, in consideration of the indirect and vicarious nature of their testimony, be presumed to do without them. This assumption, however, was confirmed only in parts. Though non-survivors do, indeed, identify the use of musicalization with "first hand testimony" and therefore refrain from it, there are only a few examples of survivors' literature that confirm this identification – even in those who do, like Paul Celan in his famous poem "Die Todesfuge", use musicalizations, first and foremost, as metafictional and critical tools. On the other hand, some writers emphasize the constructiveness of their knowledge just by indulging in a musicalized poetic. In Bukiet's novel After, for instance, musicalizations do not aim at engaging the reader in a traumatic past but in present forms of commemoration. In the examples of Holocaust representation mentioned above, musicalizations appear to be mainly instruments of metamedial discussions. They seem to be capable of questioning the appropriateness of a discursive as well as an affective aesthetic, of criticizing the concealment of traumatic pain as well as its misappropriation. In the last 25 years, the holocaust has emerged into a cultural and political metaphor of such prominence that, as Bukiet provocatively put it, "seven out of ten" books will at least mention it. At the same time, the meaning of the "H word" (Bukiet) has become more and more obscure. The prevalent aesthetic of this culture of commemoration invites the recipient to emotionally, affectively and sometimes even physically reenact the painful experiences of the victims. Critics such as Charles Maier have pointed out that this obsession with memory has a tendency to substitute the discussion of current social problems and thereby to prevent any transformative politics. Musicalizations, as a strategy that can enforce as well as question an aesthetic of reenactment, seem to show one way of how holocaust-literature can still observe its social function.

Ohne Anspruch auf Vollständigkeit bietet Expanded Cinema. Art, Performance, Film einen Leitfaden durch die Geschichte und Epistemologie des 'erweiterten Kinos' in Form einer Rekonstruktion seiner Bedeutungsfragmente. Als Ergebnis eines umfangreichen Forschungsprojekts widmet sich der Sammelband der Geschichte und Form, dem Narrativitätsverständnis und der diskursiven Einbettung des Genres. Alles kreist um die Frage: Was ist Expanded Cinema? Eine Frage, auf die es viele mögliche Antworten gibt, wobei die treffenste im Titel selbst versteckt ist: Art, Performance, Film. Ein großer Vorteil des Buches ist, nicht nur Theoretiker und Medienforscher zu Wort kommen zu lassen, sondern auch Pioniere aus der Praxis des Expanded Cinemas, die in den 1960er und 70er-Jahren die (filmischen) Experimente der historischen Avantgarde neu interpretiert haben. Expanded Cinema bedeutet nicht nur eine Möglichkeit, das klassische Kino neu zu denken; es geht auch mit dem Aufbrechen traditioneller narrativer Strukturen und Räume Hand in Hand. Auch der Begriff des Narrativen selbst wird ausdifferenziert. Bei der Künstlerin Birgit Hein bspw. steht 'narrativ' für einen Akt der Transformation, einen Prozess, an dem auch das Publikum teilnimmt, um damit zur Vervollkommnung des Werkes beizutragen. Somit wird der Film zum lebendigen performativen Ereignis und die 'Erzählung' beschränkt sich nicht auf die Geschichte, die sich auf der starren Leinwand abspielt. Im Schaffen von Malcom Le Grice ist sowohl "narrative" ("represents real or imaginary events in time") als auch "narration" ("is the act of representing the narrative") (S. 161) negativ besetzt. Für ihn ist im Expanded Cinema nur das Nicht-Narrative zulässig, denn nur hier ist der Zuschauer Teil des Werks und eine aktuelle, nicht-illusorische Präsenz kann entstehen. Eine grundlegende Eigenschaft von Expanded Cinema ist dessen experimenteller Charakter. Werner Nekes sieht "cinema as an optical toy" (S. 32). Es fokussiert eher auf ein Ereignis, als auf ein einzelnes, lebloses Objekt und kann als Hybrid verschiedener medial-performativer Praktiken verstanden werden – so in den Arbeiten von Carolee Schneemann (Viet-Flakes, USA 1965; Snows, USA 1967). In diesen Arbeiten sind Produktions- und Rezeptionsphase voneinander nicht zu trennen; das Erlebnis ist unmittelbar (Einbindung des Körpers, der physikalischen Präsenz). Im Expanded Cinema von Werner Nekes, VALIE EXPORT und Peter Weibel ist der Film dazu da, durch ästhetische Radikalität und Aktionismus (Neu-Kontextualisierung des filmischen Dispositivs, Hervorhebung seines Charakters als Medium) auch gesellschaftliche Veränderungen in Gang zu setzen. Kino und soziale Muster (wie bspw. stereotypische Repräsentationen der Geschlechterrollen) sind eng, sogar dialektisch miteinander verbunden – so weitet sich das filmisch-performative Bild auf die Realität/Identität aus und wird Teil einer "expanded reality" (S. 293). Nicht nur Produktion und Rezeption, sondern auch der reale Gegenstand und seine Repräsentation fallen ineinander – oft findet sich das Publikum auf verschiedenen Projektionsflächen abgebildet wieder. William Rabans Arbeit 2'45" (UK 1973) macht einen wesentlichen Teil des filmischen Dispositivs sichtbar, nämlich den Zuschauer. Er kehrt zurück, "seeped in the material reality of celluloid, chemicals, screens, darkness and projected light" (S. 47). Die Partizipation ist Bestandteil des Entstehungsprozesses von Expanded Cinema, es kommt oft zum Rollentausch. Das Sehen selbst wird zur Aktion. Expanded Cinema existiert nicht ohne Interaktivität, es ist auf Kommunikation statt auf Identifikation angewiesen. Peter Weibel meint, dass im Kino (im Gegensatz zur Natur) die Sinne segmentiert und das Verhältnis von Realität und Repräsentation thematisiert werden sollen – die Bewusstmachung dieser Dualität ist das Ziel. Das Eintauchen in den filmischen Moment kann so durchaus positiv konnotiert sein, denn dies gilt als "critical immersion" (S. 258). Expanded Cinema verbindet und dekonstruiert zugleich. Diese Aufsplitterung betrifft in erster Linie das kinematographische Dispositiv, das in Bilder auf kreativen Projektionsoberflächen (Spiegel, menschliche Körper, usw.) zerlegt wird. Es kommt aber auch zur Fusion "using simple combinations of new and old media to create complex conceptual encounters" (S. 237). Dies zeigt auch die Offenheit von Expanded Cinema, in jegliche intermediale Richtung zu expandieren und charakterisiert seine spezifische Art von Immaterialität: "The cinematic is not based on the material conditions of a medium and the cinematic experience can cross media boundaries or be achieved through a range of media combinations" (S. 136). Wie einst László Moholy-Nagy von seinem Lichtrequisit als frühem Rundfunkmedium träumte, ist auch die Geschichte von Expanded Cinema geprägt von utopischen Entwürfen. Stan Vanderbeek entwarf ein nonverbales Bildernetzwerk des "socialimagestics" (S. 50), in dem das Multimediale als Kommunikationsform und -sprache einer Gesellschaft eingesetzt werden kann. Ein Traum von gemeinschaftlichem, interaktivem und partizipatorischem Informationsaustausch. In England führt William Raban das Expanded Cinema in der Londoner Filmmakers Co-operative (der Geburtsstätte des strukturellen Films) ein. Sein "cinema of transgression" (S. 101) geht von einem flexiblen Raum aus, arbeitet mit Improvisation und stellt den Prozess seiner Entstehung aus. In seinen Arbeiten führt er den Entstehungsprozess des 'erweiterten Films' mit der Aktivierung des Publikums zusammen und gelangt so zu einem Konzept des "reflexive cinema" (S. 101). Bei Le Grice sind weitere ästhetische Aspekte des Expanded Cinemas vorzufinden, wie die Thematisierung des Schattens, ein romantischer Blick auf die Archäologie des Spektakels (Vorgeschichte des Filmischen) und die Mechanik des Performativen, des Körpers. Mit dem so genannten Flicker untersucht das Expanded Cinema die Materialität und die rezeptive Umgebung des Films – im Bezug auf die Sichtbarkeit und Unsichtbarkeit der Bilder und "as a means of stimulating an otherwise absent content" (S. 232). Guy Sherwin begann bereits in den 1970ern, den Projektor zur Erzeugung von Ton zu benutzen. Der Theoretiker Steven Ball meint erkannt zu haben, dass heute die Tendenz in verschiedenen Performances dahin geht, die Hegemonie des Visuellen als Hauptsinn in Frage zu stellen. Die Verbundenheit von Raum, Ton und Visualität hat er unter dem Begriff der "audio-visual spatial performance" zusammengeführt: "audio-visual spatial performance practice has come closer both to the activation of complex space as immersive, relational, denying the dominance of the screen" (S. 273). Das aktuelle Interesse des Filmemachers Chris Welsby hat sich Medieninstallationen eines nicht-dualistischen Kybernetikmodells zugewandt. Es geht ihm hierbei um das Verhältnis von Technologie und Natur. So erscheint Expanded Cinema als ein Vertreter der Dialektik der Aufklärung, denn die Medieninstallationen von Welsby weisen auf den Eroberungsmoment der Natur durch die Vernunft hin, die einer Kritik unterzogen wird. Das einzige Beispiel von Vertretern des Expanded Cinemas außerhalb von Westeuropa und Amerika wird im Beitrag von Maxa Zoller behandelt. Sie bespricht das 'open film' Konzept des polnischen Künstlerduos KwieKulik am Beispiel ihrer Arbeit Activities on Moses (PL 1971), bei dem es sich um ein work in progress handelt. Alle Eigenschaften des westlichen Expanded Cinema sind hier gegeben: u.a. eine dynamische Beziehung zwischen dem Künstler und dem Zuschauer. Dabei spielt der antihierarchische Aspekt, das Verschwimmen der Grenzen zwischen politischem (öffentlichem) Raum und Privatleben bzw. Kunst, eine wesentlichere Rolle als im Westen. Ein wichtiger Teil des Sammelbandes widmet sich der Gegenüberstellung von Experimentalfilm (Kino), Video und digitalen Technologien. In den 1980er-Jahren stehen am Beginn einer künstlerischen Phase des New Romanticism diverse Videoinstallationen, die mit einer Krise des konzeptuellen, strukturellen Expanded Cinema einhergehen. Ein "cultural shift in the arts towards a socially embedded avant-gardism" (S. 66) wird sichtbar. Das Feiern des Künstlichen, die Materialität der Ausstellungsform und der Zuseherschaft bzw. die Performativität drängen sich in den Vordergrund – so die Meinung von Michael O'Pray (S. 67). Bereits in den 1960er und 70er-Jahren stellten sich Künstler Fragen über das Kinematographische (Film) und über das Televisuelle (Video): kann das Video oder der TV-Apparat 'expanded' sein? Da diese Frage meist positiv beantwortet wurde (bspw. von den Filmemachern John Adams und David Hall), wird neben dem Projektionsapparat auch der Fernsehkasten in das Expanded Cinema inkorporiert – die Spannung zwischen der Live-Performance und dem Aufgezeichneten wird zum fruchtbaren Boden der Kreativität. In der Interpretation von Autorin Catherine Elwes schufen televisuelle Medien immer einen "active space of reception" (S. 202), wenn sie in die Hände von Künstlern gelangten. In ihrem Verständnis steht Fernsehen nicht für den einseitigen Informationskonsum – Vito Acconci bspw. wendet sich gegen eine solche Interpretation. Dass die Arbeit mit televisuellen Medien gesellschaftliche Kritik nicht außen vor lässt, beweisen nicht nur Werke feministischer Natur, die den "domestic space" (S. 208) als einen versiegelten Raum, als Gefängnis der sexuellen Hierarchien darstellen. Gender betreffende Expanded Cinemas entstehen auch im digitalen Umfeld (unter Verwendung von Webcams zum Beispiel). Persönlichkeiten wie Paul Sharit, Tony Conrad oder John Whitney arbeiteten vor der globalen Digitalisierungswelle mit intermedialen Vernetzungen von Performance, Video und früher Computergraphik. Heute ist unsere Umwelt bereits vollkommen digitalisiert; so kann sie laut Elwes als "the site of an expanded moving image event" (S. 204) gesehen werden. Im 21. Jahrhundert spricht man bereits vom "Post-expanded Cinema". Es haben sich zwei Strategien entwickelt: "On the one hand, the early years of the twenty-first century have seen a renewed interest in live film performance and a recovery or reappropriation of twentieth-century optical and aural technologies. On the other hand, artists have continued to embrace increasingly sophisticated forms of interactive media" (S. 226). Diese Strategien sind als Gegenpol zum endlosen Medien- und Bilderfluss entstanden, als Antwort auf den verschwommenen Begriff des Filmischen, und sie wurden von Künstlern entwickelt, die das Expanded Cinema in den 1960er und 70er-Jahren geprägt haben. Expanded Cinema. Art, Performance, Film ist eine Matrix aus der Vergangenheit und der Zukunft des Genres, ein Rückblick und zugleich auch ein Anstoß zum Weiterdenken – ein Aufruf, die auf den ersten Seiten des Buches skizzierte interdisziplinäre Mediengeschichte weiterzuschreiben.

In the final part of my study I shall present Shakespeare's influence on Slovene dramatists from the 1930s to the present time. In this period an almost unbelievable growth in Slovene cultural activities took place. This is also reflected in a very large number of new Slovene playwrights who have written in this time, in their international orientation in dramatic art as well as in the constantly growing number of permanent (and ad hoc) theatre companies. Communication regarding new theatrical tendencies not only in Europe but also in the United States of America and % during the past decades % also in its global dimension has become much easiers than in previous periods and this resulted also in the application of new dramatic visions in playwriting and in theatrical productions in Slovenia. These new movements include new techniques in writing, such as symbolism, futurism, expressionism, constructivism, surrealism, political drama, the theatre of the absurd and postmodernism, which have become apparent both in new literary techniques and in new forms of production. In this period Classical drama still preserved an important role in major Slovene theatres. Plays written by Greek playwrights, as well as plays written by Shakespeare, Molière, Schiller etc. still constitute a very relevant part of the repertoire in Slovene theatres. Besides, Slovene theatres have also performed many plays written by modern playwrights, as for example by Oscar Wilde, L. N. Tolstoy, I. S. Turgenev, Henrik Ibsen, August Strindberg, G. Hauptmann, G. Büchner, G. B. Shaw, A. P. Chekhov, John Galsworthy, Luigi Pirandello, Eugene O'Neill and many other contemporary playwrights. In the period after the Second World War the influence of American dramatists has been constantly growing. This variety also resulted in the fact that direct influence of Shakespeare and his plays upon Slovene dramatists became less frequent and less noticeable than it had been before. Plays written by Slovene dramatists are rarely inspired by whole scenes or passages from Shakespeare's plays, although there are also some exceptions from this rule. It is rather surprising how quickly Slovene theatres produced works written by important foreign dramatists already in the period following the First World War not to mention how quickly plays written by the best European and American playwrights have appeared on Slovene stages during the past fifty years. The connection between Shakespeare's plays and plays written by Slovene playwrights became more subtle, more sophisticated, they are often based on implied symbolic references, which have become a starting point for a new interpretation of the world, particularly if compared with the Renaissance humanistic values. The sheer number of plays written by Slovene dramatists in this period makes it difficult to ascertain that all influences from Shakespeare's plays have been noticed, although it is hoped that all major borrowings and allusion are included. Slovene dramatists and theatre directors have provided numerous adaptations of Shakespeare's plays, which sometimes present a new version of an old motif so that it may hardly be linked with Shakespeare. Slovene artists, playwrights and 4 also theatre directors, have %rewritten%, %reset% the original text and given it a new meaning and/or a new form, and in a combination of motifs and structure they have thus created a %new play%, even stand-up comedies in which the actor depends on a scenario based on Shakespeare's play(s) but every performance represents a new improvisation. Such productions are naturally closer to the commedia dell'arte type of play than to a play written by Shakespeare. I briefly mention such experimental productions in the introductory part of my study. The central part of my research deals with authors in whose works traces of Shakespeare's influence are clearly noticeable. These playwrights are: Matej Bor, Jože Javoršek, Ivan Mrak, Dominik Smole, Mirko Zupančič, Gregor Strniša, Veno Taufer, Dušan Jovanović, Vinko Möderndorfer and Evald Flisar. ; V razpravi o vplivih in o odmevih Shakespearovih dram v delih slovenskih dramatikov, ki so nastala oziroma bila prvič uprizorjena v obdobju med leti 1930-2010, ugotavljamo, da je bilo teh primerov sorazmerno veliko. Pri tem velja še opozoriti, da so v tem obdobju slovenska gledališča (vključno z ad hoc skupinami in eksperimentalnimi gledališči) uprizorila tudi vrsto del tujih avtorjev, ki so se v svojih dramah zgledovali pri Shakespearu oziroma v njegovih umetninah črpali motive za svoje ustvarjanje. Tak vpliv opazimo tudi v raznih priredbah slovenskih avtorjev, ki jih omenjam v uvodnem delu te študije. Pri tem ne gre le za različne predelave, okrajšave ali za izbiro odlomkov iz različnih Shakespearovih dram v novo dramsko delo, temveč tudi za priredbe iz specifično dramskega, klasičnega žanra, v druge gledališke zvrsti, kot npr. v muzikal, v revijsko odrsko priredbo, v lutkovna dela itn. Nekatera tovrstna dela (predvsem iz zadnjih treh desetletij) so tu faktografsko navedena, niso pa detajlno obravnavana. Prav tako niso vključena dela tistih slovenskih dramatikov, pri katerih je Shakespearov vpliv morda posreden, nimamo pa zanj konkretnih vsebinskih ali dramsko-oblikovnih dokazov. Vendar lahko z gotovostjo trdimo, da so v obravnavanem obdobju mnogi slovenski dramatiki dobro poznali Shakespearove drame in da so te na njihovo ustvarjanje tudi posredno vplivale. Med slovenskimi dramatiki, ki so v svoja dela vključili odlomke ali aluzije na Shakespearove drame, so v razpravi posebej predstavljeni naslednji avtorji: Matej Bor, Jože Javoršek, Ivan Mrak, Dominik Smole, Mirko Zupančič, Gregor Strniša, Veno Taufer, Dušan Jovanović, Vinko Möderndorfer in Evald Flisar. Podrobnosti o teh vplivih so razvidne pri analizi Shakespearovih vplivov v delih omenjenih avtorjev. Med značilnostmi, ki so v razpravi navedene, lahko ugotovimo tudi, da sta stopnja in pogostnost aluzij na Shakespearova dela oziroma citatov iz njegovih dram v slovenskih tekstih zelo različna. Medtem ko so bile do osemdestih let dvajsetega stoletja reference iz Shakespearovih dram v veliki večini semantično enakovredne originalnemu tekstu, so bile od tega obdobja dalje pogosto uporabljene ali kot kontroverzne trditve kot tudi predstavljene v ironičnem podtonu ali kot parodije originalnega Shakespearovega teksta. Glede na izredno visoko duhovno, umetniško in etično vrednost Shakespearovih dram ni dvoma, da bodo tovrstni odmevi in vplivi prisotni v slovenski dramatiki tudi v bodoče.
