Abstract

Examines the effects of daily event media reports between the Aug 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait & the Jan 1991 US-led military counteroffensive on US public support for US policy, President George Bush's handling of the situation, & optimism that the crisis would be peacefully resolved. Of three "good news & bad news" interpretations of the linkage between events & opinion, telephone interviews (N = 16,903) support only one, which emphasizes the erosive effect of the accumulation of events in a foreign policy crisis that drags on unresolved. 1 Table, 2 Figures, 22 References.
