Abstract

This article follows the creation of judicial contemporary history--the Amsterdam Judgment collection "The West German Criminal Proceedings concerning National-Socialist Murders 1945-1997" by Christiaan Frederik Rüter. It describes the difficulty in obtaining information from the GDR regarding judgments, the differences in judgment between East and West, and it gives examples of how judgments were arrived at. The author briefly outlines the attempt of the Institute for contemporary history to lighten NS-justice, an attempt that ended in a debacle.
