Abstract

An examination of the development of Portuguese political culture since the Republican revolution of 1910. It is argued that the semiperipheral status of Portugal in the world economy & the inability of the political elite to create a democratic political culture prevented democracy from developing until the 1990s. Because Portugal still has structural problems to overcome, it may face many obstacles before it is able to develop a democratic society. 42 References. Adapted from the source document.
