Abstract

An overview is presented of major areas of research in peace studies, including: critical demystifications, future peaceful conditions, & realized peace-making processes. Then, the major ideas of conflict resolution theory & practice are mapped out, & their possible applications to peace studies are examined in terms of the major stages of a conflict: its emergence, escalation, de-escalation, & settlement. This is done for each of the major sources of international conflict: domestic, international context, & the relationship between the adversaries. Some of the value issues in using conflict resolution ideas in the study of peace are discussed. 2 Tables, 30 References. Adapted from the source document.
