Abstract

A region-wide defence build-up underway in the Asia-Pacific throughout the 1980s has continued even though the Cold War has ended, and despite the fact that defence budgets in Europe, in the USSR (now Russia), the USA and most of the third world have declined. The nature and causes of the build-up especially in Northeast and Southeast) are reviewed in this essay. (DÜI-Sen)
