Abstract

The fall of the military regime of General H. M. Ershad in 1990 ushered in a new phase of democratic politics in Bangladesh. The author examines the rise of democracy and the fall of the authoritarian military regime in this country paying special attention to the various subaltern social groups that played a major role in overthrowing this military regime. The author notes that the political aspirations of these groups remain unrealized in the new government. (DÜI-Sen)
