Abstract

From the crusades of George W. Bush, via the shrill attacks of the "Tea Party", to the populist mobilisation of Donald Trump: America's conservatives have the USA holding their breath. For many Europeans it is a disturbing phenomenon, because the combination of radical individualism, deep religiousness and hyper-patriotism hardly exists in this part of the world. This book traces the formation of a political movement that moved from the margins of the American political sphere to the centre - and ultimately questions the future of a party that was unable to prevent the advance of the outsider Donald Trump.
