Abstract

The Role of the United Nations Secretariat in the Economie and Social Domain Portrait of Reorganization by Jean-Claude Milleron
The Secretary-General of the United Nations in office since the beginning of 1992, has undertaken an important economic and social reorganization. This concerns taking into account the growing role of economic and social information assuring better integration between the two domains and coping with the system's considerable development of political and humanitarian action. This calls for a reorganization of centralization-decentralization of decisions taken by the Secretariat and bodies close to it as well as a better coordination within the system. At the end of the article an outline of the prevailing distribution of responsibilities is given.
