Dans cet article, je présente plusieurs difficultés qui se posent lorsque des recherches portent sur des groupes socialement et politiquement marginalisés. Dans le cadre de l'ouvrage Punks and Skins United: Identity, Class and the Economics of an Eastern German Subculture , j'ai mené des recherches sur l'économie semi-légale des punks et skinheads de la classe ouvrière est-allemande, en m'appuyant sur des amitiés personnelles dans le milieu. Ce travail supposait de surmonter la méfiance que ces personnes éprouvent envers les institutions officielles, dont les institutions académiques. J'ai pu accéder à leur quotidien, participer à des formes de travail illégal et obtenir un aperçu de leurs activités politiques clandestines. Plus tard, j'ai été confronté à la question de ce que je pouvais publier et de la manière dont je pouvais le faire. L'enjeu était de trouver un moyen de publier des données très sensibles sur des personnes vivant dans une petite ville et dont des éléments biographiques minimes pouvaient révéler l'identité. Ce dilemme était accru par le fait que cette recherche avait été menée en Allemagne, où le travail illégal est sévèrement sanctionné. Dans le présent article, j'offre une synthèse des problèmes éthiques et moraux rencontrés au cours de ma recherche auprès de personnes appartenant à une culture underground, qui s'avèrent aussi être de vieux amis avec qui j'entretiens une relation de confiance mutuelle. Je décris également la manière dont j'ai choisi les données à publier, en gardant à l'esprit que l'ouvrage ou les articles universitaires pouvaient être lus par des responsables publics.

The focus of the article is twofold. It scrutinizes the marketing strategies of the traditional musicians of the Republic of Sakha, in the Russian Far East. In the last 10 years musicians who had performed pop, rock or jazz now focus on the global world music scene in order to develop their international career and earn money. Simultaneously, the article discusses the role of the media in the local music business of the Republic of Sakha. The local media puts artists under heavy pressure to gain success outside of their home region and Russia. Artists are turned into political activists and role models for young musicians. In order to respond to these expectations and thrive in the global music business, Sakha artists have developed interesting methods of modifying Sakha tradition. The article is critical to the post-colonial reading of the world music business and argues that artists are not always manipulated by managers but that artists develop strategies to fit the expectations of the audience and managers.

In this article, the author discusses landownership among the seminomadic Dolgan in the Republic of Sakha. Despite their nomadic lifestyle, the Dolgan have developed a complicated landownership system based on biographical and ancestral narratives linked to particular territories. The article shows how these narratives make "wilderness" into "inhabited" land and are essential for the "appropriation of nature." Aimar Ventsel seeks an answer to the question of why informal clan-based landownership has been so vital and still today regulates the use of the tundra's resources. The concept of the "narrative of the land" is so strong that even formal administrative structures cannot ignore this form of landownership. Moreover, the post-Soviet dismantling of state structures for controlling the use of environmental resources makes the concept of the "narrative of land" more instrumental for monitoring the use of resources in the Russian Arctic. Ventsel's hypothesis is that informal landownership or "moral possession" is constructed through a complex set of tangible and intangible objects that support each other in creating emotional bonds to a territory and thus establishing a family's right to control a territory's resources. В статье рассматривается институт и культурный комплекс землевладения полуномадической народности долган в Республике Саха. Несмотря на номадический образ жизни, долгане создали сложную систему владения землей, которая основывается на биографических нарративах и рассказах о предках, связанных с определенными территориями. Автор показывает, как с помощью нарративов, играющих ключевую роль в освоении природы, "дикие" земли становятся населенными.
