Testimony issued by the General Accounting Office with an abstract that begins "Increasingly, the issues of distance education and federal student aid intersect. About one in every 13 postsecondary students enrolls in at least one distance education course, and the Department of Education estimates that the number of students involved in distance education has tripled in just 4 years. As the largest provider of financial aid to postsecondary students, the federal government has a considerable interest in distance education. Overall, 1.5 million out of 19 million postsecondary students took at least one distance education course in the 1999-2000 school year. The distance education students differ from other postsecondary students in a number of respects. Compared to other students, they tend to be older and are more likely to be employed full-time while attending school part-time. They also have higher incomes and are more likely to be married. Many students enrolled in distance education courses participate in federal student aid programs. As distance education continues to grow, several major aspects of federal laws, rules, and regulations may need to be reexamined. Certain rules may need to be modified if a small, but growing, number of schools are to remain eligible for student aid. Students attending these schools may become ineligible for student aid because their distance education programs are growing and may exceed statutory and regulatory limits on the amount of distance education an institution can offer. In general, students at minority serving institutions use distance education less extensively than students at other schools. Accrediting agencies play an important role in reviewing distance education programs. They, and Education, are "gatekeepers" with respect to ensuring quality at postsecondary institutions--including those that offer distance education programs."

This article is concerned with these two aspects of distance education: how it can change our approach to learning and how it can change us. Through the eyes of its potential we can navigate the long journey of addressing some of the educational problems that have plagued us since Sputnik and that have increasingly turned the American public into a group cynical about its own value in the world. At the same time, we can see in it our evolution toward a culture whose values, organizational principles, and sense of what it means to be educated and prepared for the tasks of living are undergoing a transformation at the most fundamental levels.

There are significant personnel shortages in education and rehabilitation in the field of blindness and visual impairment. Some university-based programs that prepare teachers, orientation and mobility specialists, rehabilitation teachers and counselors, and low vision specialists to serve individuals with visual impairments strive to increase the number of service providers and assist professionals in maintaining skills and best practices in many ways. This article provides a brief overview of one approach—distance education.

The Moodle platform is a software that provides a unique framework within which students can access a wide range of online resources, allowing teachers and students to interact using different communication tools at any time. This platform contains a series of tools that were used during distance education as an educational proposal and in the middle of the 2020 pandemic as a necessity to keep the educational system running. For this reason, this article aims to review the positions of researchers on the benefits of the Moodle platform in distance education. It is concluded that the different researchers have a positive position on the benefits of the Moodle platform in distance education. Other researchers affirmed that during 2020, the use of the platform is a response to the need for continuity of the educational service and not as a proposal to stimulate learning activities.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the skills of the Public Accountant in accordance with that established by the International Federation of Accountants- IFAC, its relationship with multiple intelligences and different didactic strategies, specifically gamification applied to undergraduate students of Public Accounting Distance Program at Military University of Nueva Granada in Colombia. An exploratory qualitative methodology was used, for which the students who studied the courses of Accounting II, Public Accounting, Finance and Public Budgets in the second semester of 2017 were interviewed. As a result, it is observed that most of the respondents valued positively the application of gamification strategy in Moodle platform and especially the use of the Kahoot tool. The data provided in this study indicate the need to apply didactic strategies and activities that promote the multiple intelligences and motivate the student to construct arguments in decision making at managerial level.

These are confusing times for distance education. On the one hand it has never been so popular. Increasing numbers of students are choosing this mode of study and few tertiary institutions do not now offer some programmes by this means. But on the other hand it appears to be under threat as never before. While few countries have followed Ethiopia in banning distance learning outright, the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) is investigating a rising tide of restrictive legislation and practices. How should legitimate distance education providers react to this seeming contradiction?

The purpose of this book is to help anyone considering the use of distance education and trying to decide how it should be organised. The acclaimed success of the world's 25+ open universities gives the impression that learning at a distance demands the establishment of an open university. But, in practice, there are many different ways in which governments, universities, or private bodies can teach students at a distance. The book explores and compares the options that may be possible.
