Analyzes Walter Benjamin's theology evident in the whole of his work, focusing on his recurring theme of embodiment. It is contended that Benjamin's examination of traditional Jewish & Christian structures centers on the loss of & search for the body, apparent in Jewish cultural dispossession in Europe throughout history & in Christianity's crisis during the Reformation. The notion of embodiment (& disembodiment) also plays a key role in his analysis of the thought-language-society dynamic. Benjamin's writings on the problems of modernity emphasize the breakdown of ritual, aura, cult, & community & the perennial loss & subsequent quest for at least a technologically & politically mediated embodiment. His examinations of storytelling incorporate the distinction between contextual experience (social & secular) & pure primary experience (transcendental & nonsecular). D. Bajo
