This paper presents a political reading of the Phaedrus. It is argued that the dialogue's speeches on love describe types of political leadership and that, using the Socratic account of the statesman as someone who promotes moral improvement, political relations are not bound by institutions. Political relations become those in which one person affects the moral development of another and, thus, political 'space' is between people, not in specific locations. As a result, this new kind of forum must affect the way we think of critical Socratic citizenship. Specifically, it introduces a more extensive understanding of critical engagement and incorporates an imperative to be self-critical through interaction with others.

Based on interviews with 92 planners in five Canadian city-regions, we explore planners' perceptions of the ways that leadership affects their ability to coordinate land-use planning activities in the context of sometimes divergent or conflicting priorities and policies. Practitioners describe conditions where transformational leadership – with organizational leaders building followership around values set by political leaders – has become common, and planners have often settled into managerial roles as agent of municipal councils. Planners identify two other roles they may play: as facilitator of communication and collaboration, and as leader for smart growth strategies. The evidence suggests that planners align their role expectations not only with preferred theories in the discipline, but also with the leadership regimes they encounter.

Increased accessibility of information, cross-functional workplace challenges and financial belt-tightening have led organizations since the 1990s to consider a collaborative leadership style where leaders embrace teamwork and empower staff through motivation rather than wielding traditional authoritarian power. For females in particular, a collaborative style fits with feminist principles of relationship/consensus building and power sharing. The authors introduce a new type of collaborative leadership, the Co-CEO model, in a study by two experienced female executives who lead a mid-sized community behavioral health center in a Midwestern city. They address advantages and disadvantages of adopting the Co-CEO model for social service agencies and offer recommendations for further study.

AbstractSt. Louis was not only one of the most segregated cities in the twentieth century, but it was also a major hub of organized resistance led especially by Black women. The Gateway City was a crucible for the emergence of Black women's leadership in the post-World War II period. A mid-sized border city, St. Louis was a point of regional confluence. Its relatively small Black population, rigid lines of racial demarcation in jobs and housing, and the local Black freedom movement that centered on working-class interests all factored into Black women's formal political leadership of mainstream civil rights institutions in St. Louis, where they held considerable public voice. From the 1940s to early 1980s in St. Louis, Pearl S. Maddox, Marian Oldham, DeVerne Calloway, Jean King, and Ora Lee Malone fought locally to expose and ameliorate the structural causes of racialized poverty. Leading campaigns for jobs, decent working conditions, affordable housing, state-based economic protections, living wages, welfare rights, and unfettered Black access to urban space and the consumer marketplace, women activists were key architects of freedom agendas. They pushed political progress not only in civil rights organizations but also in unions and state government, as they addressed the compounding impact of urban inequality in postwar America.

The purpose of this study: 1) To find out the influence of leadership style, competence, education and training on the performance of the Civil Servants 142 / TTG in the City of Parepare. 2) Knowing among the variables that have a dominant influence on the performance of the Civil Servants 142 / TTG in the City of Parepare. This study uses primary data and secondary data. The study population was all Civil Servants at the 142 / TTG Military Command in the City of Parepare. The sample in this study were as many as 30 permanent employees using the census method because the population was limited. Data collection is done through interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis method uses descriptive statistical analysis, inferential analysis with regression models using SPSS Prgoram version 20. The results showed that leadership style, competence, education and training had a positive and significant effect on the performance of 142 / TTG civil servants in the city of Parepare. Of the three independent variables used, the leadership variable has a dominant influence in improving the performance of civil servants 142 / TTG in the City of Parepare.
