Charles Griswold participates in the vexing question of the individual & society & how they are related to each other in his Adam Smith and the Virtues of Enlightenment (1999). He asserts Smith's merit as a great thinker by comparing the classical, or Platonic Enlightenment, to the modern, or Smithian Enlightenment. Griswold explores the complex relationship & tensions between Smith's seminal The Theory of the Moral Sentiments & The Wealth of Nations. Introduced here is a symposium discussing Griswold's Smith, focusing on whether Smith's "impartial spectator" provides a normative standard for evaluating various social practices & whether any psychological account of moral feelings can be the basis of describing the phenomenon of morality, among other issues. Innovation teams must navigate inherent tensions between different learning activities to produce high levels of performance. Yet, we know little about how teams combine these activities—notably reflexive, experimental, vicarious, and contextual learning—most effectively over time. In this article, we integrate research on teamwork episodes with insights from music theory to develop a new theoretical perspective on team dynamics, which explains how team activities can produce harmony, dissonance, or rhythm in teamwork arrangements that lead to either positive or negative effects on overall performance. We first tested our theory in a field study using longitudinal data from 102 innovation teams at a Fortune Global 500 company; then, we replicated and elaborated our theory in a study of 61 MBA project teams at an elite North American university. Results show that some learning activities can occur within the same teamwork episode to have harmonious positive effects on team performance, while other activities combine to have dissonant negative effects when occurring in the same episode. We argue that dissonant activities must be spread across teamwork episodes to help teams achieve a positive rhythm of team learning over time. Our findings contribute to theory on team dynamics, team learning, and ambidexterity.

Since the 1990s, students have been resisting the increasing corporatization of Canadian and American university campuses. More recently, administrative attempts to impose higher student activity fees to fund stadiums and other sporting facilities have been met with student opposition. In 2001, a referendum was held at the University of Toronto, Canada, on the issue of a mandatory student levy to fund a new stadium. This case study will be analyzed using concepts and insights from research on community stadium tax referenda.

In this first comprehensive study of women as economic actors in medieval Norway, Susann Anett Pedersen analyses the economic agency of unmarried heiresses, wives and widows c.1400-1550. Drawing on sources such as sales contracts and private letter correspondence, the book investigates elite women's formal and informal roles in decision making processes and their ability to make independent economic choices. In particular, the book stresses the importance of looking beyond the legal regulation of women's economic activities and rather analyses women's own actions, in order to better grasp the complexity of their economic agency
