This resource review provides an introduction to Mariana Bers' new book, Designing Digital Experiences for Positive Youth Development (2012). Bers applies the Six C model of Positive Youth Development (PYD) to the digital domain with her theoretical model, Positive Technological Development. The model may be particularly valuable for practitioners seeking to design digital experiences for youth, as well as for evaluators who assess the PYD outcomes associated with youth participation in these spaces.

The article is a collectively written piece about the rise and development of the Worker Center Berlin. The center was founded in 2022 by a group of activists, workers and researchers, involved in various ways in the struggles around the gig economy in Berlin, mainly targeting Gorillas and other delivery platforms. Since then, the group has managed to use the office of Gorillas' work council to offer counseling, organizing tools and a space for socializing to precarious migrant workers. The article describes the founding process and the current situation of the Worker Center Berlin. It addresses both the strengths and the challenges of the initiative.

This paper provides a summary of data about requests and appeals published by central reporting bodies in eight countries. It was prepared for the World Bank as part of a larger study on the implementation of right to information (RTI) laws. It examines available RTI data about requests and appeals from the most recent year of aggregated data—ranging between 2011 and 2013. It does not evaluate subnational data. It assessed these statistics for Brazil, India, Jordan, Mexico, South Africa, Thailand, The United Kingdom, and the United States. Through this assessment it provides trends in how countries are collecting and publishing these data. Statistics were retrieved from annual reports and through online portals. Online portals were used for Brazil, Mexico, and the United States. The types of data collected include: volume of requests and rate of responses, types of requesters, type of information requested, agencies receiving requests, use of exemptions, appeals and complaints, and sanctions.

Novelist Pip Adam reflects on the processes involved in three of her recent projects: a novel, The New Animals (2017); a community newspaper and art project; and her educational work in creative writing classes in prisons. Drawing on Raymond Williams and Kenneth Goldsmith, Adam considers the relationship between the work of art and the work involved in producing art, and consider some of the ways in which the language of creativity and inspiration may undermine democratic energies.
