ABSTRACTMany linear programming models have been proposed for performing discriminant analysis. Partial characterizations for unacceptable solutions have been presented and new models proposed to circumvent these problems. In this paper those conditions leading to unacceptable solutions for all two‐group models are characterized.

ABSTRACTCharacterization of unacceptable solutions for linear programming (LP) discriminant models have been discussed in the literature and the results presented so far are not satisfactory. This paper establishes necessary and sufficient conditions of unacceptable solutions for a number of LP models, addresses the practical implications of these conditions, and discusses the relationship between unacceptable solutions and multiple solutions.

The primary task of this Section of the IJLL is to alert the readers either to comparative legislative developments in a particular subject area or to highlight a single major piece of legislation which is likely to have an impact or influence on other than a national forum. It will also attempt to survey international acts and documents affecting the relations within the community of nations as well as the legislative programs and policy of the states involved.

This clear and authoritative introduction to the principles of private international law, a complex and rapidly changing area, now appears in a revised and fully updated form. The English conflict of laws is a body of rules whose purpose is to assist an English court in deciding a case which contains a foreign element. In this new third edition, the chapters on tort, jurisdiction, and staying of actions have been almost entirely rewritten. The chapter on the Brussels and Lugano Conventions has been recast and expanded. The growing influence of European Union law on UK private international law is evident in this third edition, which will be a valuable text for students and practitioners alike
