THE PROCESS OF APPOINTING THE UN SECRETARY-GENERAL HAS, HITHERTO, BEEN A CURIOUSLY HAPHAZARD AND DISORGANIZED AFFAIR. THE IMPORTANCE AND CHANGING NATURE OF THE TASK RAISE THE QUESTION WHETHER SUCH AN IMPORTANT APPOINTMENT SHOULD, IN THE FUTURE, BE LEFT SO MUCH TO CHANCE. THE PROCESS IS DISCUSSED, ALONG WITH; THE ROLE OF THE VETO, CAMPAIGNING, TERM OF OFFICE, THE NATURE OF THE PROCESS, AND CHANGING ASSUMPTIONS AND CRITERIA. IT CONCLUDES WITH IDEAS ON HOW THE APPOINTMENT PROCESS COULD BE IMPROVED.

This work studies software selection in Illinois police departments to determine what factors are most important in making decisions, these factors' outcomes, and the nature of participation in decision making. The research finds that performance factors are far more important than cost considerations. Those organizations that emphasized performance factors in decision making were more likely to be satisfied, as well as benefit from greater affects of the system. Participation is dominated by the user department with people outside the department playing only a limited role in most cases. The nature of software selection encouraged geographical patterns in software acquisition.
Federal court selection is eviscerated. Across five years in Barack Obama's presidency, the judiciary confronted some eighty-five vacancies because Republicans never agreed to prompt Senate consideration. Only when the Democratic majority ignited the "nuclear option," a rare action that permitted cloture with fewer than sixty votes, did gridlock end. However, openings quickly grew after the Grand Old Party (GOP) captured an upper chamber majority, notwithstanding substantial pledges that it would supply "regular order" again. Over 2015, the GOP cooperated little, approving the fewest jurists since Dwight Eisenhower was President. However, selection might worsen. This year is a presidential election year, a period in which confirmations traditionally slow to a halt, and a predicament that controversy regarding Justice Antonin Scalia's High Court vacancy exacerbates. At the next inauguration, the bench may experience 100 unfilled circuit and trial level positions. These concerns demonstrate that the broken appointments system requires permanent improvement. This survey evaluates confirmations during President Obama's tenure, detecting that Republicans have plumbed new depths for obstruction. Because this recalcitrance undermines judicial selection, the delivery of justice and respect for the coequal branches of government, the analysis proffers multiple long-term solutions, notably a bipartisan judiciary, which could enhance the process.

The purpose of this empirical study is to find out the similarities and differences between first and multiple time Hong Kong holiday makers in their selection of foreign holiday destinations and the type of activities they are engaged in while spending their vacations away from home. Study results indicate that there are demographic, socio‐economic and behavioral differences between first and multiple time Hong Kong overseas visitors. These pronounced differences between the two segments can be used in the development of appropriate marketing strategies to attract higher numbers of tourists to the same destination.

A letter report issued by the General Accounting Office with an abstract that begins "Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed how effectively the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) selects individual income tax returns for audit, focusing on: (1) the extent to which IRS district offices have used various sources to select these individual returns for audit; and (2) comparing the results of audits selected using these sources in terms of the rate at which audits recommended no-change to the tax reported, amount of additional taxes recommended per return audited, and rates at which IRS assessed and collected such recommended taxes after the audit."

In this paper we detail the results from an empirical study concerning differences in characteristics of the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system selection process between small or medium and large sized organizations. In particular we address the fields of software packages considered and chosen, the weights assigned to different selection criteria, the size and structure of the team responsible for the decision, the methods employed and the effort expended.

Abstract
The focus on profit and continuous struggle for increasing market share has gradually led to the neglect of the environment. The opportunist behavior of companies by threatening of ecological environment has led to a indirect neglect of its consumers. According to that, the implementation of green approach in all business areas has to be present. When it comes to a supply chain and its sustainability in an ecological sense, the question of adequate choice of suppliers and/or partners is a priority. The process of supplier selection is the first stage in the process of designing the supply chain. Therefore, this phase will decide whether the whole supply chain will be green-oriented. The aim of the paper is to point out the increasing implementation of the green approach in the supply chain, and above all in the supplier selection process. In addition, the paper analyses the impact of the economic environment as a factor of implementation of the green approach. In order to verify the hypothesis, the authors analyze EPI and LPI indexes, as well as the correlation between them. According to the results of the analysis, the authors indicate which countries are the green destinations and also the source of the green suppliers (green partners).

Natural evolution logic has been attracting the attention of researchers for years. More recently, it is being increasingly utilised in business and economics research where it provides the benefit of analysing a variety of organizational phenomena. This book provides new insights into the endogenous mechanism and the factors that influence it. It links the evolutionary approach, the process perspective, and the practice perspective in the area of strategy process, expanding the current research in multi-level logic within and beyond the organizations, and shows how the entire selection mechanisms behave at each level and how these mechanisms are connected across levels. This book: Takes an evolutionary perspective and focus on the selection suggesting that it can be explained not only by the interaction with the external environment, but also by internal - endogenous - factors. Proposes a multilevel selection mechanism that integrates the endogenous and exogenous pressures.Explains a managerial intervention and its effect on the adaptation mode concerning behavioral and cultural settings. Covers inter-organizational selection to build a complex picture of the selection.Evolutionary Selection Processes: Towards Intra-Organizational Facets will appeal to scholars and doctoral students in business and management, organization theory, organization behaviour, organizational change, and the strategic management field.
