Prevention Strategies for Alzheimer's Disease
PUBLIC HEALTH IMPORTANCE AND PREVENTION In the past century, life expectancy has increased more than 27 years. As the number of elderly persons has dramatically increased, Alzheimer's disease (AD) has become one of the major public health problems in the United States and the entire developed world. The "prevalence and malignancy of AD," as described in a two-page editorial written in 1976 by Dr. Robert Katzman (1), has become well known to physicians as well as the lay public. In the editorial, Katzman estimated the prevalence and mortality due to AD, and placed AD as a leading cause of death in the United States. Hebert has shown that the impact of AD will be ever more dramatic over the next 50 years as the numbers of very elderly in the population rise at an accelerated rate (2). Projecting age-specific prevalence data for AD to the population distributions obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau, there were 4.5 million cases of AD in the United States in the year 2000 and there will be 13.2 million in the year 2050.

International suicide rates and prevention strategies
This book analyzes the latest trends in suicide rates and attempts around the world using data from the WHO's Mortality Database. It covers the whole life span from childhood (under 15 years) through to late adulthood (65 years and over). This comprehensive examination of international trends pro-vides a uniquely clear picture of suicide mortality in the last half century, with an emphasis on recent and emerging trends. Controversially, the book then goes on to examine the impact of national suicide prevention strate-gies, national mental health plans, substance use policies, and the use of antidepressant medications on suicide mortality, providing some astounding initial data on the efficacy - or lack of efficacy - of these activities in the prevention of suicide

Every time a young person is harmed by violence, our nation's future strength and growth are jeopardized. We are losing our next generation of young people-our future community builders and leaders-to homicide at an alarming rate. Beyond premature death, youth violence causes emotional, academic, and physical scars that limit young people's potential independence, growth, and success. When the opportunities of our young people are curtailed by youth violence, we all suffer the negative and long-lasting consequences. Contract cheating: causes and prevention strategies
Contract cheating refers to a variety of behaviors in which a student outsources their work or involves a third party in attempting their assignments. Over the last few years, the number of contract cheating cases at the university, nationally, and globally has increased dramatically. To help fight this malpractice, the UK government has now passed a bill making it an offence to provide or advertise cheating services to students enrolled at higher education providers in England. However, this may not be enough as most of these services are run overseas. This project's goals were to investigate various causes that lead students to access contract cheating services measures that can help the university to reduce and prevent contract cheating.

Prevention Strategies for Policing Gun Violence
In: The annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, Band 704, Heft 1, S. 158-180
ISSN: 1552-3349
The police have the unique capacity to preempt and deter violence and to reduce the use of firearms in violent encounters. But overly aggressive policing tactics have contributed to a fraught relationship with low-income minority communities in which gun violence is heavily concentrated. Increased resources should be devoted to policing gun violence, but efforts of this sort must be targeted and disciplined. Effective policing requires a focus on the places and people that are at greatest risk; and there is a strong case for police agencies to increase the resources devoted to investigations of all criminal shootings, not just homicides. Successful policing of gun violence requires a productive working relationship with victims and their neighbors, which can be facilitated through observing community policing principles and respect for residents' interests.

Child maltreatment prevention strategies: Saudi youth perspectives
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Child maltreatment (CM) is a global problem that has long-term negative outcomes. The objective of this study is to explore the knowledge and perceptions of youth regarding CM prevention. METHODS: The study was conducted in Saudi Arabia using International Child Abuse Screening Tool (ICAST). Answers to open-ended questions were analyzed and a list of CM prevention strategies was generated. RESULTS: Participants identified a range of preventive strategies that were grouped into three main themes: 1) collective preventive efforts; 2) recognizing and responding to CM; 3) gaining closure. For each overarching theme, a list of subthemes were derived. Subthemes included raising awareness through the mass media; school professionals' capacity building and curriculum advancement; strengthening family relationships; enact CM preventive legislations and policies; monitoring media content and video games and limiting access to firearms for the first theme. The second theme comprised the subthemes reporting services and protective services. As for the third theme it included rehabilitation; punishment for CM crimes and connection to spirituality. CONCLUSION: Gathering youth perspectives on CM prevention will help us in designing future prevention strategies.
