The instrumental case study reported here adds to the literature on authentic assessment by illuminating how one secondary agricultural education instructor employed authentic assessment in the agricultural mechanics laboratory. The study was underpinned by the constructivist notion of authentic learning and assessment, or allowing students to perform what they can do. Multiple sources of data regarding assessment practices were collected from an exemplary secondary agricultural mechanics instructor who demonstrated model authentic assessment behavior by (1) setting high and fair expectations for students, (2) establishing a progressive hierarchy of skills for students to master, (3) providing continuous feedback so that students had knowledge of their progress, and (4) being committed deeply to students' success. The four themes resonated with previous literature and provided the foundation for a pragmatic model of authentic assessment in the secondary agricultural mechanics laboratory. Future research should focus on refining the model of authentic assessment in agricultural mechanics for a larger audience, as case studies are limited in their ability to generalize. Additionally, research should be conducted to determine how authentic assessment impacts student performance on Oklahoma Agricultural Power and Technology competency examinations.

Reforms of natural monopolies need clear delineations between the industries where market mechanisms contribute to social welfare and those where the costs of a transition to a market economy outweigh the benefits. In this article, we emphasise the difficulty of finding the optimum modes of governance within industries as a whole. Using the tools of the transaction cost economics, we show that, alongside the problem of market boundaries and the resultant position and behaviour of a company — an object of antimonopoly regulation — it is necessary to consider the hypothesis about the market being a special mechanism for coordinating interactions between economic entities. In particular, such determinants of transactions as asset specificity, uncertainty, and frequency can create a basis for abandoning the price mechanism. Williamson's heuristic models suggest that if an activity is characterized by high specificity, uncertainty, and frequency, the very organisation of this activity precludes transaction cost minimisation through the price mechanism employed either in full or in part (hybrid institutional agreements). This can be explained by excessive risks and ensuing high transaction costs. A more efficient solution is the organisation of interactions within a group of legal entities in control (within a single economic entity). In order to compare the practical implementation of institutional alternatives, we examine the modes of governance in the gas supply industry. A major focus is the Baltic region where two interconnected pipelines — the Nord Stream and the OPAL — were constructed. Different ways to handle transactions relating to gas supply were employed at the time. We compare these ways and conclude that it is necessary to consider the determinants of a transaction to select the best structural alternative and to avoid choosing a wrong governance structure.

AbstractThis study of teletext is as instructive about the pitfalls and rewards of field research as it is about the utility of the technology itself.

The article is devoted to the development of the digital measuring and computing system for conducting stabilometric studies. The proposed system is based on an electromechanical stability platform. The block diagram of the developed system is presented. The selection of electronic components for the system is analyzed. The developed system is based on the ATmega328 microcontroller on the Arduino Uno R3 board. The HX711 board is used as an analog-to-digital converter. Strain gauges of 50 kg are used to measure the patients' pressure forces. The overall design, technological, technical, and operational characteristics of the developed stabilometric platform are presented in the paper. The physical model of the developed system is shown. The operating algorithm is described, and the block diagram for calculation of the main stabilometric indicators (the length of the stabilogram, the modules and directions of the velocities, angular velocities, and dynamic stabilization factors) is presented. There are several examples demonstrating test operations of the developed system. Trial measurements and calculations have shown that the designed system fully meets the technical requirements for stabilometry equipment. The developed measuring and computing system allows registration and calculation of the spatial and temporal characteristics of patients' motions.
