In view of the enormous social and environmental changes at the global level, more and more cities worldwide have directed their development strategies towards smart policies aimed at sustainable mobility, energy upgrading of the building stock, increase of energy production from renewable sources, improvement of waste management and implementation of ICT infrastructures. The goal is to turn into Smart Cities, able to improve the quality of life of their inhabitants by offering a lasting opportunity for cultural, economic and social growth within a healthy, safe, stimulating and dynamic environment. After an overview of the role of cities in climate changes and environmental pollution worldwide, the article provides an up to date definition of Smart City and of its main expected features, focussing on technology innovation, smart governance and main financing and support programs. An analysis of the most interesting initiatives at the international level pursued by cities investigating the three main areas of Green Buildings, Smart grid-Smart lighting, and Smart mobility is given, with the objective to offer a broad reference for the identification of development sustainable plans and programs at the urban level within the current legislative framework.

The concept of green technology, like many of those associated with modern environmentalism, is both ambiguous and complex. On one hand, it usefully reflects a more sophisticated understanding of the critical role of technology in mitigating anthropogenic environmental impacts. On the other hand, as usually employed, it embeds within it the mental model of environmental issues as peripheral to general economic and policy activity, leading to suboptimal institutional behavior in both the private and public sectors. What is required is not green technology but simply good technology, defined as artifacts and systems that are designed from the beginning to incorporate appropriate environmental concerns or that exhibit environmental preferability among their other, more traditional, attributes.

Introduction/purpose: This paper aims to present military green technology through present concepts, solutions and challenges, as well as through future trends, particularly in wireless communication. Methods: Analyses and syntheses were used to consider various aspects, challenges and developments of military green technology. Results: Important aspects of organization, challenges and strategies in military green technologies are presented. Next, the role of a green energy action plan is emphasized. Furthermore, green defence solutions and security challenges are considered. Besides presenting green technologies of today, primarily focused on wireless networks, especially 5G, the paper also considers the impact of biofuels, methanol-based fuel cells, hydrogen fuel cells, hybrid electrical vehicles and photovoltaic energy. Finally, green technologies for the future are presented through some of the most important technologies: next generation wireless networks, pulse detonation engines, piezoelectricity, and biodegradable platforms. Conclusion: Military green technology is now necessary for approaching wireless networking in order to meet challenges of high demands of wireless traffic and energy consumption. Also, military green technology will require further constant considerations in the field of efficiency and sustainability of application as well as research to provide different acceptable solutions, not only in technical, but also in the organizational domain, in order to be applied in military environment.

PurposeWith the growing concern of various sectors of society regarding environmental issues and the promotion of sustainable development, green technology innovation is generally considered to be conducive to the long-term development of enterprises. However, because of the existence of agency problems, managers may have shortsighted behaviors. Then how will managers' shortsighted behaviors affect enterprises' green technology innovation?Design/methodology/approachThis paper uses machine learning-based text analysis methods to construct a manager myopia index based on the data from A-share listed companies on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges from 2015 to 2020. We examine the impact of manager myopia on green technology innovation in companies.FindingsOur study finds that manager myopia significantly inhibits green technology innovation in companies. However, when multiple large shareholders coexist and the proportion of institutional investors' holdings is high, it can alleviate the inhibitory effect of manager myopia on green innovation. Heterogeneity tests show that the impact of manager myopia on green technology innovation is relatively significant in non-state-owned and manufacturing companies, as well as in the electricity industry. Robustness tests demonstrate that our conclusions remain valid after using propensity score matching to eliminate endogeneity problems.Originality/valueFrom the perspective of corporate governance, this paper incorporates managers' shortsightedness, multiple large shareholders and institutional investors' shareholding ratios into the same logical framework, analyzes their internal mechanisms, helps improve corporate governance, enhances green innovation capabilities and has strong implications for the implementation of national innovation-driven development strategies and the achievement of "carbon peak" and "carbon neutrality" targets.
