Over the last decades, active power networks have reached great attention due to the incorporation of distributed energy resources into low voltage power systems. In this paper, a decentralized energy management strategy is proposed as an efficient way to minimize both active power losses and voltage profile deviation of an distribution power network with photovoltaic solar farms, and also at the same time, aims to improve the reliability and the security of supply. The coordinated energy management concept relies on a two-step optimization approach based on genetic algorithms (GA) and MINLP, in which a multi-objective function is used which takes into account reliability and operational technical constraints in its formulation. The suitability of the proposed methodology is tested on an existing low voltage power system, in which two aspects are considered: firstly, determining the optimal allocation of PV units and secondly, establishing the optimal reschedule of the active power of the generation units partic ipating in the energy mix and minimizing both the real power losses and voltage deviation of the entire power system. ; This work has been partly funded by the European Union seventh framework program FP7-SMARTCITIES-2013 under grant agreement 608860 IDE4L – Ideal grid for all.

New multi-sectoral policies with a regional implementation are developed when maritime states recognise the importance of managing the marine environment under an ecosystem-perspective rather than a use-perspective. In Europe, the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) is the first attempt to promote an integrated management of the seas from the coastline to the limit of the Exclusive Economic Zone. This paper shows that, nine years from the MSFD adoption, there remain several ecological, economic, social and governance challenges. Using information gathered in a dedicated survey of the European Union Marine Strategy Coordination Group and in the recent literature the paper identifies the obstacles preventing a successful regional cooperation and policy integration. The survey indicates that the MSFD coordination structures are, in general, well-developed but there is an apparent lack of political will to coordinate actions at the regional level. Member States request greater flexibility to implement the Directive but they put their national interests before the benefit of a coherent and integrated approach for the entire region. Differences in budget, economic sector predominance, lack of staff and the MSFD short time-scale are identified as the factors that can hamper cooperation. These have produced recommendations of possible strategies for optimising regional coordination structures which respect the subsidiarity principle underpinning the MSFD.

This study investigates how social media creators navigate and respond to severe cases of ongoing, networked harassment. Drawing on 19 in-depth interviews with Twitch streamers who experienced a form of networked harassment known as "hate raids" on the platform, including three creators who built and shared tools to combat these attacks, this analysis pays particular attention to the nature and coordination of responses to networked harassment and the extent to which creators' responses are also networked. This study's findings suggest that, in the absence of communication and technical support from Twitch, creators started ad hoc networks for sharing technical tools, offering strategies for managing audiences during attacks, and providing emotional support for peer creators. Yet these networks of support were unevenly accessed across the streamers interviewed in this study and often existed only temporarily. This study's findings furthermore indicate that communities on Twitch form primarily around individual streamers, which fosters supportive connections within that streamer's audience community but limits opportunities for solidarities to form across streamers as a class of creative workers. I conclude by considering more broadly how platform infrastructures can facilitate or constrain different forms of community building among creators and their audiences.

The Facilitative, Interpretive and Reflective Practices of the Coordinated Management of Meaning: Making Lives, Making Meaning, showcases ways in which the theory of Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM) has been applied in a variety of settings. The title reflects the three sections of the book in which CMM is used with individuals and groups toward making meaning together in constructive and generative ways to make better social worlds in and through communication

European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculis) have been a problem since their introduction to Victoria, Australia in 1834. In North Central Victoria, a regional rabbit action plan was developed to harness and coordinate community action to achieve long-term benefits. This plan focuses the efforts of the community and the resources of government to achieve community and government objectives. Extensive consultation and involvement of all interested stakeholders resulted in joint ownership and commitment to implementation of the action plan. The success of this plan is due to community ownership of the problem and the committed coordinated efforts of all stakeholders. Land managers have the responsibility to implement the control works on the ground, and the Victorian government provides support to encourage landholders to work together by providing technical assistance and some funding to offset the high cost of ripping warrens. At the ground level, community groups develop local action plans (under the Regional Action Plan framework) for their area. Groups demand 80% involvement of all landholders prior to commencing control programs. On-ground works are coordinated from property to property; there are no gaps in control activity. Where landholders do not undertake control efforts that meet the community standard they are recommended to government for enforcement action, which may result in prosecution. The community ownership of the rabbit problem has resulted in an attitude change that believes "rabbit free" is essential and achievable.
