Campus City Project: Challenge Living Lab for Smart Cities
This work presents the Campus City initiative followed by the Challenge Living Lab platform to promote research, innovation, and entrepreneurship with the intention to create urban infrastructure and creative talent (human resources) that solves different community, industrial and government Pain Points within a Smart City ecosystem. The main contribution of this work is to present a working model and the open innovation ecosystem used in Tecnologico de Monterrey that could be used as both, a learning mechanism as well as a base model for scaling it up into a Smart Campus and Smart City. Moreover, this work presents the Smart Energy challenge as an example of a pedagogic opportunity for the development of competencies. This included the pedagogic design of the challenge, the methodology followed by the students and the results. Finally, a discussion on the findings and learnings of the model and challenge implementation. Results showed that Campus City initiative and the Challenge Living Lab allows the identification of highly relevant and meaningful challenges while providing a pedagogic framework in which students are highly motivated, engaged, and prepared to tackle different problems that involve government, community, industry, and academia.

Intensive Archeological Survey Of Allen Campus City Of Allen, Collin County, Texas
Collin College has proposed the Allen Campus project where campus facilities will be constructed in northwest Allen, Collin County, Texas. Collin College retained Terracon Consultants, Inc. to conduct a systematic, intensive pedestrian survey of the approximately 32-acre project area. Because Collin College, a political subdivision of the State of Texas, sponsored the project, the proposed undertaking is subject to compliance with the Antiquities Code of Texas and oversight from the Texas Historical Commission. In addition, the survey meets the standards for compliance under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, should a US Army Corps of Engineers permit be required for the project. The cultural resources survey was carried out under Texas Antiquities Permit Number 8130, issued to Ann M. Scott, PhD, RPA, Principal Investigator. Fieldwork was carried out by Dr. Scott, with assistance from Project Geoarcheologist David Yelacic, MS, Project Archeologist Caitlin Gulihur, MA, and Archeological Technician Juan Morlock. Records from the project will be curated at the Center for Archaeological Studies at Texas State University. The 32-acre project area was considered the Area of Potential Effect (APE). Survey of the APE consisted of systematic pedestrian coverage, including discretionary shovel tests. The work was carried out on August 21-22, 2017. Fourteen shovel tests were excavated in areas that had less than 30 percent ground visibility or placed in areas previously undisturbed. No artifacts were discovered during the excavation of the shovel tests. In addition, six backhoe trenches were excavated in areas with high potential for buried cultural deposits. No cultural materials were observed during the course of backhoe trenching. As a result of the survey, two historic-age sites were recorded, 41COL300 and 41COL301. Site 41COL300 consisted of a historic-age trash midden. Artifacts included metal fragments, tires, and plastic and glass containers; several items, such as children's toys were from the 1960s and 1970s. Little potential for buried deposits was noted when the site was recorded. Within the current project APE, site 41COL301 consisted of four outbuildings. A collapsed house structure and at least one more outbuilding are located outside of the current project APE. These structures had been noted on historic aerials and topographic maps. No buried deposits were noted at the site. Neither site appears to maintain integrity and substantive research value. Deed and historic research did not link the sites to significant events or individuals. Neither site is recommended as eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) or for designation as a State Antiquities Landmark (SAL). Given the absence of eligible historic properties within the APE, it is Terracon's recommendation that the proposed project be allowed to proceed as currently designed. In the unlikely event that human remains are discovered during construction, construction should cease in the vicinity of the remains and Terracon, the Texas Historical Commission's Archeology Division, or other proper authorities should be contacted.

Mad City: the true story of the campus murders that America forgot
"Mad City: The True Story of the Campus Murders that America Forgot is a chilling, unflinching exploration of American crimes of the twentieth century and how one serial killer managed to slip through the cracks--until now. In fall 1967, friends Linda Tomaszewski and Christine Rothschild are freshmen at the University of Wisconsin. The students in the hippie college town of Madison are letting down their hair--and their guards. But amid the peace rallies lurks a killer. When Christine's body is found, her murder sends shockwaves across college campuses, and the Age of Aquarius gives way to a decade of terror. Linda knows the killer, but when police ignore her pleas, he slips away. For the next forty years, Linda embarks on a cross-country quest to find him. When she discovers a book written by the murderer's mother, she learns Christine was not his first victim--or his last. The slayings continue, and a single perpetrator emerges: the Capital City Killer. As police focus on this new lead, Linda receives a disturbing note from the madman himself. Can she stop him before he kills again?"--

Sustainable food, consensus, and debates: a study on university campuses in Mexico City
In: International journal of sustainability in higher education, Band 23, Heft 8, S. 337-353
ISSN: 1758-6739
Purpose
This paper aims to analyze the conceptions that underlie the notion of "sustainable food" of different social actors based on a study focused on promoting sustainable food strategies on university campuses.
Design/methodology/approach
The research incorporates the views of various actors linked to a sustainable food project on the campuses of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), which is one of the most important universities in Latin America. The study includes a literature review on food sustainability strategies on university campuses and implemented sustainable food programmes in 100 universities worldwide. It also incorporates semistructured interviews and discussion groups conducted with consumers of the university community, 60 smallholder farmers and managers of 23 alternative food networks in Mexico City.
Findings
This research evidence the diversity of meanings and perspectives associated with food sustainability and a generalized emphasis on its environmental dimensions, although environmental problems tend to be partially understood. It also highlights the priority students and producers give to the accessibility of healthy foods.
Research limitations/implications
The results of this study revealed important elements, potentially useful for designing sustainable food strategies on the campuses, considering the principles of the rights-based approach to development and social participation.
Originality/value
The research evinces tensions in the definition of food sustainability and its translation into actions from a multistakeholder perspective.

Politics on Campus: Why do Students Join Campus Politics in Islamabad?
Education has been an extensively researched area as an important resource of political participation across the globe. However, politics on campus has been an under-researched in South Asia including Pakistan. This study was set forth to explore the factors responsible for the involvement of students in politics at the campus. The present study was conducted under positivist epistemology in three randomly selected public sector universities in Islamabad city, Pakistan. A sample of 396 proportionately selected male students was drawn from the selected universities. A self-constructed questionnaire was employed in the survey to collect the data. Alpha reliability of the subscales was calculated and found appropriate to use. Factors including peer suggestion, ethnic affiliation, academic environment, political culture, political socialization, perceived status and power deficit were tested to find out their association. The Pearson correlational analysis confirmed the association of all the variables. It can be concluded that all the above seven variables are persuading students to join politics on campus and participate in political activities.
