<p>A greeting is a common polite behaviour that also helps to build a relationship. Knowing the difference between Chinese and western greetings will help communicate better with foreigners in the future, and help Chinese and western cultures communicate better with each other. This paper looks at the differences in greetings between Chinese and western cultures and societies and explains why these differences exist based on economy, culture, and society. Furthermore, this paper also suggests that to achieve a better expression result, it is important to pay attention to these differences in communication.</p>

Corporate governance (CG) has been experiencing a shift from the antecedent shareholder-oriented system toward the recent more popular stakeholder-oriented system. To better serve the aim of sustainable development, more and more companies have initiated stakeholder-oriented practices. Increasing social responsibility behaviours demonstrate the prioritisation of stakeholders' interests. Nevertheless, most extant research on stakeholder-oriented CG focuses on MNEs and large listed companies. Limited attention has been paid to the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) sector. This study aims to fill this gap by providing empirical evidence of Chinese SME corporate social responsibility (CSR). We develop and test two hypotheses by using samples of 172 Chinese listed SMEs. Our result is distinct from most of the extant SME CG literature, given that the stakeholder-oriented CSR types have a negative impact on short-term operational profitability and expansion over a fixed period. Additionally, the government subsidy, as one of the most significant national institutions, partially moderates the relationship between stakeholder-oriented CSR and firm performance. The outcomes of this research make both theoretical and managerial contributions to SMEs' CG systems. In the context of Chinese SME CSR, managerial stakeholder theory is a more pragmatic means to guide firms toward sustainable development than ethical stakeholder theory.

Through an online survey of residents in areas affected by Hurricane Matthew ( n = 596), this study examines antecedents that lead to perceived community resilience (PCR) in a disaster crisis. Crisis efficacy, community identification, positive and negative emotions, and social media engagement are identified as factors contributing to PCR. Social media engagement was defined as coping behaviors such as, information seeking, social support seeking, and giving behaviors on social media during and in the aftermath of crisis. The results of this study provide implications for postcrisis rebuilding processes, and how government and organizational communicators can utilize social media communication to foster PCR.

Through an experiment, this study examined how varying degrees of consumer–company identification, crisis severity and different crisis response messages (i.e., two‐sided vs. one‐sided) affected consumers' responses to corporate crisis and the crisis‐affected company. Results suggested that two‐sided response messages were more effective in reducing the attribution of crisis responsibility than one‐sided positive response messages for weak identifiers, while one‐sided positive response messages were more effective than two‐sided response messages for strong identifiers. But this message effect was only found in low but not high severity crisis. Findings of the study indicated that consumer–company identification may serve as one of the key factors in predicting consumer reactions to crisis.

Through a 2 × 2 × 3 experiment design, this study examines effects of issue‐related corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes on stakeholder perceptions of an issue‐related crisis (i.e., blame, scepticism and corporate credibility) through the lens of balance theory. Results indicate that issue‐related CSR programmes work well in reducing scepticism when stakeholders have high issue involvement and positive attitudes. Scepticism is also found to be a mediator between issue‐related CSR programmes and perceived corporate credibility.
