At present, the most promising events regarding Latin American integration are the cooperation treaties signed by Argentina and Brazil. Uruguay has been invited to participate, which is natural considering its traditionally excellent trade relations with its neighbors, and it has also formally accepted. It is the purpose of this paper to analyse the effects on Uruguay's development of a deepened economic cooperation with the larger and more industrialized countries, Argentina and Brazil

Following the introduction in the first chapter, Chapter 2 analyses the general economic performance of Guinea-Bissau's economy. Chapter 3 is devoted to a detailed discussion of the relationship between Guinea-Bissau and the international financial institutions. Chapter 4 discusses the agricultural sector which will continue to be the motor of the country's economy. A clear prospect for 1992 is a squeeze of credit and a shortage of foreign exchange. The consequences of this are explored in Chapter 5. The report is concluded in Chapter 6 which also reflects on the implications of the recent economic events for international assistance policy. The aim of this report is to present the general macroeconomic situation of Guinea-Bissau, one of the SIDA's program countries, and to discuss the most recent and relevant macroeconomic events. Probably the most important general economic events during the eighties have been the reform programs after 1981, and the subsequent Structural Adjustment Program. These topics are discussed to some extension. (DÜI-Hff)
