We examined the mediating role that job satisfaction plays in the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and perceived general health. Participants were 124 faculty members in the School of Basic Medical Sciences at Southern Medical University, China. The simple path and fully
mediated models were subjected to structural equation modeling. Results indicated that EI was positively correlated with job satisfaction, and that job satisfaction was positively correlated with perceived general health. However, when job satisfaction was controlled for, the partial correlation
between EI and perceived general health became nonsignificant. Finally, we found that job satisfaction mediated the relationship between EI and perceived general health.
