The Soviet and other communist navies: the view from the mid-1980s
Der Sammelband präsentiert theoretische Beiträge und empirische (quantitative wie qualitative) Analysen, für die amerikanischen Wissenschaftler und Experten der US-Marine verantwortlich zeichnen. Gegenstand der Studien sind die Rolle und der Auftrag der sowjetischen Marine im Kontext des strategischen Gesamtkonzeptes der UdSSR sowie die Zusammensetzung, Kommandostruktur, die waffentechnische Ausrüstung, die Kampfkraft und das Operationsgebiet der Überwasser- und Unterwasserstreitkräfte samt Marinefliegern und Spezialeinheiten. Untersucht werden daneben die Größe und strategische Relevanz der Flotten anderer kommunistischer Staaten (nicht-sowjetische Warschauer-Pakt-Staaten, Kuba, Vietnam, Kambodscha, Nordkorea) wie auch die der blockfreien Länder Jugoslawien, Albanien und VR China, die speziell im Hinblick auf ihre regionale Rolle gewürdigt werden.
