The Impact of Village Cadres' Public Service Motivation on the Effectiveness of Rural Living Environment Governance: An Empirical Study of 118 Chinese Villages
In: Sage open, Band 12, Heft 1
ISSN: 2158-2440
Based on Perry's Public Service Motivation Theory, this paper aims at (1) measuring public service motivation of village cadres and the effectiveness of rural living environment governance; (2) examining the public service motivation of village cadres as a factor potentially influencing the effectiveness of rural living environment governance. Through the survey of village heads, the village party secretaries and villagers in 118 villages in south-central China, an empirical study on the impact of village cadres' public service motivation and effectiveness of rural living environment governance is conducted. Empirical results indicate that village cadres' public service motivation (four dimensions) positively influences the effectiveness of rural living environment governance (three aspects). Therefore, we could consider more about perspective of village cadres' public service motivation for improving the effectiveness of rural living environment governance.

What Drives Creative Crowdsourcing? An Exploratory Study on the Persuasion of Digital Storytelling
In: Science, technology & society: an international journal devoted to the developing world, Band 27, Heft 1, S. 23-45
ISSN: 0973-0796
Crowdsourcing enterprises increasingly seek to attract and persuade makers to contribute their creativity and wisdom through digital storytelling, however, what are the effective components of digital storytelling and the persuasive effect of digital storytelling on creative crowdsourcing intention are still unclear. To fill this gap, this study explores how digital storytelling persuades makers to generate creative crowdsourcing behavioural intention by utilising Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). Results reveal that the persuasion activity of digital storytelling has a positive effect on creative crowdsourcing intention. The effective components of digital storytelling are mainly composed of aesthetic perception, narrative structure and self-reference. UTAUT and its four core concepts (performance expectation, effort expectation, social influence and facilitating condition) mediate the impact of digital storytelling on the creative crowdsourcing intention, which reveals the persuasive source of digital storytelling. We highlight the theoretical implications as well as the practical applications in creative crowdsourcing.

Compulsory Citizenship Behavior and Employee Silence: The Roles of Emotional Exhaustion and Organizational Identification
In: Social behavior and personality: an international journal, Band 46, Heft 12, S. 2025-2047
ISSN: 1179-6391
Past research on citizenship behavior has pointed primarily to its voluntary side—organizational citizenship behavior (OCB)—but some scholars have suggested that there is a nonvoluntary version of citizenship behavior—compulsory citizenship behavior (CCB). Drawing
on conservation of resources theory and social identity theory, in this research we firstly examined the psychological mechanism underlying the relationship between CCB and the critical workplace deviant behavior of employee silence by developing a moderated mediation model wherein CCB predicted
subordinates' silence behavior through emotional exhaustion, with organizational identification acting as the boundary condition. Results from 2-wave lagged data (N = 242) collected in the manufacturing sector in China support our hypothesized model. We found that CCB was positively
related to employee silence, and emotional exhaustion fully mediated this relationship; organizational identification weakened the relationship between CCB and emotional exhaustion, and organizational identification weakened the indirect effect of CCB on employee silence via emotional exhaustion.
Contributions, practical implications, and several promising avenues for future research are discussed.

Diurnal Cortisol Slope and Nighttime Blood Pressure: A Study in European Americans and African Americans
In: Ethnicity & disease: an international journal on population differences in health and disease patterns, Band 31, Heft 4, S. 481-488
ISSN: 1945-0826
Objectives: African Americans (AAs) have higher nighttime blood pressure (BP) than European Americans (EAs). Stress has been suggested to play a role in this difference, but the mechanism is not well-understood. Flatter diurnal cortisol slope (DCS) is a well-known biological marker of stress. The objectives of this study were to: 1) examine ethnic differences in DCS; 2) evaluate the association between DCS and nighttime BP; and 3) determine the extent to which ethnic differences in nighttime BP can be explained by ethnic differences in DCS.Methods: A total of 510 participants (age range: 14-35 years; 49.6% AAs, 54.5% females) provided four salivary cortisol samples at bedtime, wakeup, 30-minutes post-wakeup, and 60-minutes post-wakeup. Additionally, participants wore an ambulatory BP monitor for 24 hours. DCS was calculated as the average of the three morning samples minus the bedtime measurement. Results: After adjustment for age, sex, BMI, and smoking, AAs had blunted DCS (P=.018) and higher nighttime systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP) (Ps<.001) compared with EAs. The DCS was inversely related to nighttime SBP and this relationship did not depend on ethnicity. The ethnic difference of nighttime SBP was significantly attenuated upon addition of DCS to the model. Mediation test showed that 9.5% of ethnic difference in nighttime SBP could be explained by DCS (P=.039).Conclusion: This study confirms ethnic differences in DCS and nighttime BP and further demonstrates that the ethnic differences in DCS can, at least partially, explain the ethnic differences found in nighttime BP.
