For some years now I have been occupied in various aspects of the career‐counseling profession. In that time I guess I've tried every individual and group method that seemed to offer some promise of success. Recently, I tried to distill what it was that I'd learned from all this: what thread seemed to run through those vocational counseling systems that seemed to work for me. I concluded that for me to be helpful to another in the life‐planning process, I had to assist in certain events in what seems to be a developmental sequence.
