AbstractThis study contends that phenomenography offers both a useful research method and practical tools for developing education and training for career practitioners. After introducing the basic principles of phenomenography, the study reviews previous research on its potential in developing pedagogical practices. It explores how the phenomenographic findings were utilized to design an online skills training programme for career practitioners. The study finds that phenomenographic research serves three practical pedagogical purposes: (1) revealing how learners understand certain concepts or phenomena, (2) elucidating how these understandings differ; and (3) identifying critical aspects in helping learners to widen and deepen their understanding.

"Das finnische Berufsbildungssystem wurde seit dem Beginn des Jahrhunderts grundlegend reformiert. Eine der wichtigsten Änderungen ist die Einführung obligatorischer und betreuter Phasen des Lernens am Arbeitsplatz in allen Ausbildungsgängen. In diesem Artikel wird untersucht, welche Erfahrungen die Schüler mit dem Lernen am Arbeitsplatz und insbesondere mit der Integration des schulischen und des betrieblichen Lernens sowie mit ihrer Betreuung gemacht haben. Zu diesem Zweck wurden über einen Internet-Fragebogen Daten von Schülern des Abschlussjahrgangs berufsbildender Einrichtungen in der Stadt Helsinki erhoben. Der Fragebogen wurde von 41 Prozent der Schüler beantwortet. Insgesamt zeigten sich die Schüler zufrieden mit dem Zusammenhang zwischen schulischem und betrieblichem Lernen und mit der Betreuung an den berufsbildenden Einrichtungen und am Arbeitsplatz. This paper presents a Glaserian grounded theory study of adult students' holistic professional growth in a two-year tailored, work-related, teacher qualification program in physical education. The data consisted of reflective learning diaries, interviews and the written texts of 20 adult students. The data analysis followed the stages of Glaserian grounded theory analysis with substantive and theoretical coding processes carried out using the constant comparative method. The article presents the emotional core and its properties (criticality, ethicality and empowerment) of physical education teacher students' professional growth. In addition, the article introduces a substantive theory of a process of adult students' multifaceted professional growth during a work-related physical education teacher-qualification program and discusses the pedagogical implications in relation to developing teacher education in general and the education of physical education teachers in particular.

Entrepreneurship is considered to be a driving force behind nations' economic development, and entrepreneurship education's role is essential in shaping entrepreneurial attitudes, skills and culture. The objective of this study was to investigate students' experiences of entrepreneurship education in a developing economy, especially as regards learning in and through teams. The research project was conducted in Namibia, where the challenges to breaking out of poverty are huge. Methodologically, the study was based on qualitative thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews (2009–2014) of higher education students ([Formula: see text]) taking part in an action-based, experiential entrepreneurship programme. In the analysis of students' teamwork experiences, five main themes related to learning in and through teams emerged — the first three relating to individuals, the fourth to the team, and the fifth to wider social relations: (i) psychological safety, (ii) tolerance of uncertainty, (iii) strengthening of self-efficacy, (iv) strengthening of team-efficacy, and (v) understanding of others and other cultures. The outcomes may be utilised in establishing, developing and planning similar entrepreneurship education programmes across different cultural settings in developing economies.

AbstractAs the careers of today are no longer typically stable and predictable, people should expect to encounter many challenges during their working life. The present study aimed to explore the meaning of difficulties in modern career-themed life narratives. A total of 54 Finnish sports graduates' narratives were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis to identify the meanings attributed to difficulties. Findings revealed that difficulties both shaped the plot and initiated multiple types of reflections in the narratives. The paper suggests that difficulties should be considered as a meaningful part of career narratives and discusses the application of the findings in career counselling.
