In digitally connected middle-class households with school-going children, from toddlers through to varsity students, the practice of transcendent parenting has arisen. 'Transcendent Parenting' addresses modern parenting in the digital world, and it reveals potential consequences for both parents and children.

Social media platforms provide the key affordance of "communicative fluidity", where communication can be more seamless because of the multiple channels users can tap to express themselves. Besides just text therefore, users can communicate via photographs, videos, emoji, and stickers, on top of voice and video calls. The visual richness of social media enables users to make explicit feelings that cannot be articulated in words, while graphical representations such as stickers can lend messages an air of interpretability. Users can strategically and dynamically choose the best means by which to express their emotions, opinions, and intentions to attain communicative fluidity. However, the rigid scripting that underpins the vocabulary of social media can also compel users to communicate in ways that they find forced and inauthentic.

Cautionary voices have pointed to the apparent dangers that mobile media and communication pose for young people in the form of "deviant" activities such as sexting and mobile phone-facilitated bullying and criminal activity. Such incidents have ignited moral panics about the proliferation of mobile media because they are seen to facilitate emergent social/spatial interactions that are either unprecedented, or occurring on a scale not hitherto witnessed. While labelling concerns about youth deviance that is, in some measure, enabled or facilitated by mobile communications as "moral panics" is unproductive, it would be equally myopic to disregard the risks that mobile media can pose for youths in certain circumstances. This article critically examines the panic discourse surrounding youths and mobile media before reviewing research that suggests how mobile media can present risks for youths in particular contexts and milieus.

AbstractToxic metal ion‐selective electrodes (TM‐ISEs) with simultaneously multiple high‐response properties (MHRPs) are urgently needed for continuous monitoring of contaminated water environment. Still, scarce reports exist from research in which electrodes developed possess those properties. To overcome this challenge, we previously proposed an IECQ index method for obtaining a few of Pb2+‐ISEs with MHRPs and a universal approach for selecting referable values of response characteristic ([RC]refer) for normalization. This research aims to select electrodes with MHRPs from 391 collected electrodes for five kinds of TM (Cd, Cu, Hg, Ag or Zn)‐ISEs (TM‐ISEs) reported in the literature, through the IECQ,i indices and the study of the IECQ screening capacity, that is, the magnitude of IECQ coverage. The higher coverages, from 63.60% to 100%, of four categories IECQ,i (IECQ,2B, IECQ,3C, etc.) to electrodes with high performance are observed, indicating their good screening abilities. For eight diverse needs, the 21 screened electrodes have MHRPs, and their excellent performances are comparable with those used in real‐time monitoring. The reliability of the monitored results would be improved if they were applied to the actual detection of TM ions.
