Dans notre univers économique globalisé et dérégulé, quelques startups autrefois sympathiques ont donné naissance à des multinationales oligopolistiques qui régissent le coeur informationnel de nos sociétés : les GAFAM. Sous le prisme de l'économie politique, Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon et Microsoft ne sont pas examinés comme des réussites exceptionnelles mais comme les produits emblématiques d'un ordre néolibéral qu'ils contribuent eux-mêmes à forger, et qui s'inscrit résolument contre le projet originel de l'internet. Le livre décrit précisément le déroulement du processus de marchandisation qui a permis aux logiques financières de pénétrer le champ de l'informatique connectée, conçue initialement comme un bien public au service de l'émancipation collective. Il propose une synthèse claire et accessible des stratégies sophistiquées des GAFAM pour éviter l'impôt, capter la valeur produite en ligne par les utilisateurs et exploiter les données récoltées Ainsi, pour penser l'avenir de l'internet, il invite à s'interroger sur la place que nous voulons donner, dans la société future, au travail, aux inégalités sociales et économiques et, en dernier ressort, à la démocratie. --

Tributaires du contexte économique et politique mondial, les gafam subissent des turbulences pour trois raisons conjoncturelles : baisse de rentabilité, plans sociaux et renforcement de la régulation publique de leurs activités. Mais, malgré la multiplication des contraintes nouvelles, les paramètres opérationnels fondamentaux de ces entreprises demeurent inchangés. Aussi, la conjoncture compliquée ne remet pas en cause leur emprise structurelle sur la quasi-totalité de notre vie sociale et économique, ce qui leur confère un pouvoir extraordinaire et leur assure un avenir profitable.

Cet article esquisse un tableau de l'élite de l'industrie du numérique à travers l'examen de son histoire, de sa sociologie et de son idéologie. Cette nouvelle bourgeoisie mobilise un imaginaire méritocratique à la limite du darwinisme social, une croyance déterministe aux bienfaits de la technologie, une conception tolérante des mœurs et une vision libérale des questions sociétales.

The platformization of the public sphere refers to the increasing dominance of digital platforms in shaping public discourse, access to information, and the production and dissemination of political content. The public sphere, where citizens inform themselves and engage in political debates, is being transformed by global private corporations like Alphabet and Meta. Their platforms exercise control over cultural producers, political actors, and the distribution of information and communication resources. At the same time, in a context of multiple crises of liberal democracies under capitalism, they offer personalization of content, services, and experiences contributing to the fragmentation of the political landscape. Thus, the platformized public sphere bears a fundamental contradiction in that it emerges through the dialectics between concentration and fragmentation. This has significant implications for freedom of expression, journalism, and the way public discourse is constructed and disseminated. The aim of this issue is to shed light on these fundamental stakes.

But things didn't go as expected because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the social, economic and political tensions that it triggered. The majority of the planned events were cancelled, leaving plenty of room for the dissemination of controversies around the 1821 bicentenary in social media that largely countered the official agenda. In this paper we propose an original method combining large scale network and lexicometric analysis in order to link identifiable communities of Twitter users with the main discursive themes they used around the 1821 revolution bicentenary. This in order to distinguish the political and cultural issues and cleavages within Greek society that were made visible on Twitter on the occasion of this event.

International audience ; In this article, we propose an original method combining large-scale network and lexicometric analysis to link identifiable communities of Twitter users with the main discursive themes they used in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris, France in 2015. We used this method to compare tweets and user networks in French and in English. We observed that the majority of the users who tweeted about Charlie Hebdo were people without any particular affiliation, who were shocked by the attacks and immediately expressed themselves through emotionally charged messages. But rather quickly their proportion decreased and they participated less in politically polarizing discussions. On the other hand, we found that smaller, highly politicized, and polarized groups had similar attitudes toward the events: they were less engaged immediately after the attacks in emotional expression of sympathy and shock, but they participated vividly in the following days in polemical discussions or engaged themes. Other findings include the central position of mainstream media and the existence of groups of users that aggregated on the basis of nationality. More generally, our results show clearly that even the most dramatic events such as a terrorist attack with innocent victims do not produce homogeneous reactions online. Rather, political engagement and cultural dispositions are keys to understand different attitudes on Twitter.
