Abstract
From the perspective of a practitioner who was deeply engaged in the negotiations, this article describes how the Israeli-Palestinian Mutual Recognition Agreement was conceived and negotiated. It explains the process of convincing Israeli and Palestinian leaders to accept mutual recognition, overcoming their initial objections. While not nearly as publicized as the 1993 Declaration of Principles agreed at Oslo, this Agreement became the bedrock for all the Oslo Accords, and set the stage for subsequent negotiations.

Abstract
This article tells the story of how and why, when negotiating the Israeli-Palestinian Oslo Accords in 1993–95, the author developed the concept of dividing the West Bank into three areas with differing formulas for allocating responsibilities between Israel and the Palestinian Authority in each. The origin of how these areas were named is also discussed. This negotiation demonstrates that parties are prepared to modify ideological positions when detailed and practical options are presented that constitute a hybrid to the parties' former positions.

Abstract
This article analyzes one procedural prenegotiation issue that may seem minor in comparison to the substantive questions at hand, but can become consequential regarding its impact on the negotiation and its outcome. How the negotiating table is configured and where the parties will sit is the focus of our analysis. We examine how these questions were addressed in advance of key Vietnam and Middle East peace talks. The study assesses various strategies that were employed effectively to blur potential visual manifestations of symbolic and precedential advantage by one side.

On September 15, 2020, in a ceremony that took place on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, DC, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain (Bahrain) Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani signed a trilateral document, called the "Abraham Accords Declaration," a political declaration that called for the promotion of peace and cooperation in the Middle East. As referenced in the declaration, it was titled after the common patriarch Abraham, from whom the three monotheistic religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, have descended. U.S. President Donald Trump added his signature as a witness to the Abraham Accords Declaration, as well as to two other, bilateral documents also signed in Washington on the same day, which are discussed below.

Verlagsinfo: Over seven years in preparation, this is the first book-length report to emerge from the Correlates of War project. That project, supported by the Carnegie Corporation and the National Science Foundation, proceeds from the assumption that war - like other natural and man-made catastrophies - can be studied in a rigorous and scientific fashion. And as we increase our understanding of its correlates and its causes, we increase the chances of making war less frequent and less destructive. This volume, as well as the larger project, is seen as a logical extension of the pioneering research of Quincy Wright and Lewis Richardson. Building on Wright's 'Study of War' and Richardson's 'Statistics of Deadly Quarrels', it offers the first fully operational set of data on modern international war. Exhaustive in its search and meticulous in its coding and computations, it provides a wide variety of indicators by which we measure the amount of war between nations since the Congress of Vienna. The authors, after outlining and explaining their procedures in a step by step fashion and comparing their compilation with those of earlier scholars, go on to provide the following data: the 93 interstate, imperial, and colonial wars which satisfy their explicit criteria for inclusion; the severity, magnitude, dates, and participants of each such war; the rank position of each war on each of several scales; the amounts of each type of war which began, was underway, or ended in each of the 150 years; measures of historical trends and cycles; the amounts of war experienced by each of the nations and nation-pairs in the system; and battle death ratios between initiators and defenders and between the victors and the vanquished. The volume - most of whose tables and graphs are computer-generated - closes with detailed explanatory notes and several bibliographies.
