This study investigated loneliness and its relationships with social connectedness and family income among female and male college students in Taiwan. The Revised UCLA, Loneliness Scale (R-UCLA; Russell, Peplau, & Cutrona, 1980); translated into Chinese and adapted by Wang, 1989,
for measuring global, intimate, and social loneliness, and the Social Connectedness Scale (Lee, Draper, & Lee, 2001), were administered to undergraduates. Analysis of the statistical data utilized Pearson's, product-moment correlations and multiple regression techniques. The findings
reveal that college males experienced more loneliness than females in global and social loneliness. Furthermore, social connectedness significantly predicted global, intimate, and social loneliness in both females and males. Family income significantly predicted global and social loneliness
in college men only. Implications for future research are discussed.

PurposeIndividuals with intellectual disability (ID), mental health needs and criminal justice system involvement are likely to be admitted to forensic units; however, not all of those individuals are served in that system. It is, therefore, important to understand the profile of those admitted to non‐forensic specialized units for individuals with ID and mental health issues. This paper aims to address this issue.Design/methodology/approachDemographic, clinical and criminal profiles of individuals discharged over nine years from a specialized dual diagnosis program were reviewed to delineate clinical subgroups.FindingsA total of 20 out of 84 total discharges were identified as having past or current criminal justice system involvement. The most common offence was assault and 60 per cent of these individuals had admissions longer than one year. Subgroups by psychiatric diagnosis differed in their age, legal status, offence history, and length of hospital stay, as well as in therapeutic interventions and discharge process.Research limitations/implicationsThe results suggest that inpatients with ID and criminal justice system involvement present with unique treatment, support and risk management needs based on psychiatric diagnosis. The number of individuals in clinical subgroups was low, thus further research is needed to determine if the observed patterns hold true in bigger samples.Originality/valueThe study delineates the complexity and heterogeneity of treatment and supports needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities and offending behaviour.

Upon contact with the swollen oral mucosa, the oral liquid forms a thin protective film that acts as a mechanical barrier to relieve pain. This study was the first in China to evaluate the local analgesic effect of oral liquid in cancer patients who developed oral mucositis following chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. Methods: A total of 60 patients were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to the CAM2028 group (the pump device was firmly pressed three times and the fluid was distributed to the painful area of the oral cavity) or KS (a mucoadhesive oral wound rinse, Kangsu™; Luye Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd, Nanjing, China) group (5 mL of the oral rinse was poured into and kept in the oral cavity for at least 1 minute). The primary endpoint was the area under the oral mucosal pain score–time curve (AUC) within 6 hours of treatment in the trial and control groups. Medical device adverse events were assessed according to the National Cancer Institute's Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, version 4.0. Statistical analyses were performed using the chi-squared test (Fisher's exact test), independent-samples t-test, and analysis of covariance. Results: Sixty patients were included in the per-protocol set population analysis. The average (mean ± SD) 6-hour AUC of the CAM2028 group and the KS group was 14.20±10.29 and 24.46±14.15, respectively. The difference between the groups was statistically significant (P=0.0022). The incidence of adverse events in the trial group and the control group was 16.67% and 30.0%, respectively, and there was no statistical difference. Conclusions: CAM2028 displayed an efficacious local analgesic effect in cancer patients who developed oral mucositis following chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. The results demonstrated its potential value in clinical applications. Keywords: oral mucositis, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, analgesic effect, episil

In order to improve outage property of cooperative communication system, directional antenna technology could be introduced. The paper proposes single relay AF cooperative communication protocol based on directional antenna and deduces the outage probability of system in fully directional mode theoretically so as to deduce the lower bound. With the minimum system outage probability to be the target, the paper analyzes OPA (Optimum Power Allocation) and makes detailed analysis and comparison of the system property of the established model by combining with specific simulation value. The simulation result shows that on the condition of high SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) or greater difference of channel coefficient between two terminals and relay, the lower bound and accurate value are approximated and the outage property of fully directional cooperative communication is superior to that of traditional mode. Under the situation of limited power, OPA can enhance the outage property of system effectively.
