Neosporosis is a parasitic disease caused by the obligate intracellular protozoan Neospora caninum, which is responsible for miscarriage cases in cattle countrywide. The vertical or transplacental route with prevalent miscarriages between the 3rd and 6rd months of pregnancyis the main transmission form in cattle. The aim of the present study is to investigate the presence of anti-N.caninum antibodies in (Bos indicus) Nellore female animals and fetuses in Nossa Senhora do Livramento County - MT. Blood samples from 489 female bovines and from 128 bovine fetuses over three months of pregnancy were colleted. The research about the anti N. caninum antibodies in bovine females and fetuses was conducted through the Immunofluorescence technique (IFA). We found 2.45% (12) seropositive and 3.91% (5) seropositive to N. caninum in the present study.

<p>The current study aims to assess the effect from crude glycerin inclusion (0, 7, 14, and 21% dry matter) in the diet of slaughtered lamb on their development, nutrient consumption, biometrical measures, diet economic viability and carcass features. Thirty two (32) non-castrated male Texel lambs were used in the study, they presented mean initial weight 15.9 ± 4.1 kilos and were distributed in casual outlining. They were fed with four treatments, with 8 repetitions. Animals were slaughtered when they reached approximately 35 kilos. The mean total weight gain was 20.72 kilos and mean daily weight gain was 260 grams. No changes resulted from glycerin use. The carcass performance was similar among treatments (P&gt;0.05) and the cold carcass performance (CCP) was 44.68%. There were no effects (P&gt;0.05) on the loin eye area (LEA) and on fat thickness (FT); they showed averages of 13.66 cm2 and 0.84 mm, respectively. Nutrition cost per animal during the whole confinement period varied between R$82.60 (eighty-two Reais and forty-eight cents) to R$92.48. The smallest nutrition amount consisted of 21% crude glycerin. The gross profit ranged from R$30.75 to R$ 34.01 per animal, for feed without glycerin and 21% glycerin, respectively. Animal development was not impacted by glycerin introduction, even with decrease on dry and organic mass consumption. The result showed that crude glycerin inclusion might be used in lambs' diet. Whenever there are big amounts of feed involved in the process, the 21% crude glycerin addition may be an interesting cost reduction. Seventy eight percent (78%) glycerol crude glycerin to replace corn-based feed in confined lambs' diet appeared to be nutritionally and economically viable.</p><p><strong> </strong></p>

Campilobacteriose genital bovina (CGB) e Tricomonose bovina (TB) são doenças infectocontagiosas de transmissão venérea, assintomáticas nos touros, sendo consideradas como importantes enfermidades causadoras de falha reprodutiva, morte embrionária ou abortamento, ocasionando perdas econômicas significativas em rebanhos bovinos infectados. CGB é causada pela bactéria Campylobacter fetus subsp. venerealis e Campylobacter fetus subsp. fetus, e TB pelo protozoário Tritrichomonas foetus. O estado de Mato Grosso é detentor do maior rebanho bovino do Brasil, envolve a região do Pantanal Mato-Grossense que possui grandes extensões de terra, com ciclo anual de enchentes e a reprodução dos animais realizada predominantemente por monta natural, condições estas, favoráveis a presença de CGB e TB no rebanho. Considerando a carência de informações recentes sobre a ocorrência dessas enfermidades no estado de Mato Grosso, o objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a presença de Campylobacter spp. e Tritrichomonas foetus em 100 touros provenientes dos municípios de Poconé, Santo Antônio de Leverger e Nossa Senhora do Livramento, localizados na região pantaneira do estado de Mato Grosso. Amostras de esmegma prepucial foram coletadas por meio de escarificação via swab prepucial e armazenadas em solução salina a -80ºC. Para a detecção de Campylobacter fetus subsp. venerealis, Campylobacter fetus subsp. fetus, e Tritrichomonas foetus, foi realizada a reação em cadeia pela polimerase (PCR). Apesar do questionário aplicado nas propriedades revelar condições epidemiológicas que favorecem a manutenção e disseminação desses patógenos, este estudo não identificou a presença dos referidos agentes em touros avaliados nas propriedades rurais do pantanal Mato-Grossense.

This study aimed to evaluate levels of concentrate supplementation (1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0 kg day?1) for grazing dairy cows kept on Panicum maximum Jacq. cv. Tanzania pasture during the rainy season on nutrient intake and digestibility and rumen parameters. Four rumen cannulated non-lactating Holstein × Zebu crossbred cows were used in this study by a 4X4 Latin square design, which presented an average initial body weight of 521.69±31.98 kg. Each period lasted 17 days, being the first 10 days were used for animal adaptation and the remaining seven days for data collection. There was no effect (P > 0.05) of supplementation levels on total dry matter intake, although forage dry matter intake has been linearly decreased (P < 0.05). Treatments have no effect (P > 0.05) on the digestibility coefficients of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, or ether extract. There was a linear increase (P < 0.05) on daily rumination time and total rumination times according to supplementation levels. There was no significant effect of supplementation levels (P > 0.05) or time after supplementation on rumen pH. Rumen ammonia nitrogen concentration responded quadratically (P < 0.05) to times after supplementation, with a maximum estimated concentration of 17.61 mg dL?1 at 3.87 h after supplementation. Increasing supplementation levels for grazing dairy cows reduces forage intake but has no negative effects on total dry matter intake or rumen-fluid pH.

<p>The aim of this research was to identify the occurrence of pathogens causing subclinical mastitis in grade B milk farms of the Jaguapitã county, state of Paraná, Brazil. California Mastitis Test (CMT) were carried out in 400 milk samples from 100 animals and 157 teats from 55 animals (55%) were positive, showed score two or higher to CMT. When these 157 positive samples to CMT were transported for bacterial culture in blood agar, 25.48% (40/157) samples showed no bacterial growth or more than two types of bacterial colonies grew, 28.03% (44/157) were Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS), 8.28% (13/157) were <em>Streptococcus uberis</em>, 7.64% (12/157) were <em>Staphylococcus aureus</em>, 7.64% (12/157) were <em>Corynebacterium </em>spp, 7.01% (11/157) were <em>Staphylococcus intermedius</em>, 4.46% (7/157) were <em>Staphylococcus hyicus</em>, 3.82% (6/157) were <em>Bacillus </em>spp., 2.55% (4/157) were <em>Streptococcus dysgalacteae</em>, Enterobacteria and Yeasts. We conclude that CNS is the most relevant subclinical mastitis causative agent.</p><p><strong> </strong></p>
