PurposeDuring pre-vaccine era, pharmaceutical supplies [self-care essentials (SCEs)] have been proved to be a major deflector, protector and safety guard against novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Hence, the objective of the study is to provide a comprehensive socio-technological decision-making framework based on multiple criteria for selecting the suppliers of pharmaceuticals, such as SCEs, by multi-brand enterprises (distributors) in the pandemic environment.Design/methodology/approachA hybrid methodology of Bayesian best worst method (BWM) and multi-attributive border approximation area comparison (MABAC) method has been applied for carrying out the study. Bayesian BWM has been applied for computing the importance of criteria identified for the selection of SCEs' suppliers during pandemic environment and MABAC method evaluated the suppliers of the SCEs.FindingsIn the study, the authors have identified eight criteria such as disinfection and sanitization of vehicles, social conscience of suppliers, brand (Technological recognition) of SCEs and logistics and distribution network, among others, which are critical to the selection of a supplier for the supply of SCEs. The application of the proposed hybrid model revealed that lead time and quality of SCEs are of utmost concern for pharmacies in a pandemic environment. Among the ten suppliers, results showed that Suppliers 2, 4 and 5 have been ranked first for supplying hand wash, hand sanitizer and face mask, respectively.Practical implicationsThe proposed model has helped the multi-brand distributors of pharmaceuticals in selecting suppliers during the ongoing crisis of COVID-19. In addition to that, in future the outcomes of the study would be helpful for multi-brand distributors as well as pharmacies and hospitals in selecting the best suppliers. Policy makers will be able to make and revise the policies immediately with the help of the proposed decision-making framework.Originality/valueThe paper makes a novel contribution towards theory with the criteria identified for selecting best suppliers during the pandemic COVID-19. Additionally, the proposed hybrid model helps multi-brand distributors of pharmaceuticals in making decisions that lead to a huge social and economic success in pandemic time.

During this transition process, the organization faces many barriers such as financial, organizational, technology-based, social, policy-related, market-based, and logistics-based barriers. the objectives of this study are to propose a framework highlighting policy-related barriers for a supply chain in the transition to CE and finally discuss potential implications on enhancing corporate environmental performance of a business. Further, this study evaluates the causal relationships between the policy-related barriers using fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method. the application was conducted in an apparel firm in Turkey. From findings, lack of legislation for efficient CE (C4), lack of mandatory requirements and responsibilities for manufacturers/suppliers for the CE (C17), and lack of government support for environmentally friendly policies (C2) are revealed as the most important barriers, respectively. It is found that lack of attitude and awareness about CE in government institutions (C19) is the most influencing factor, whereas lack of effective recycling policies to achieve quality in waste management (C8) is the most influenced factor. the recommendations were developed for enhancing the corporate environmental performance of businesses through incentives and unique rewards, improving communication among stakeholders, the government's perception of CE and current linear economy, cooperation with nongovernmental organization (NGOs) and civil actions, the vision of government towards circular principles, the circular public procurement, the local governments in circular policymaking, and awareness of bureaucracy and government officials.

PurposeThe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic created heavy pressure on firms, by increasing the challenges and disruptions that they have to deal with on being sustainable. For this purpose, it is aimed to reveal the role of the smart circular supply chain (SCSC) and its enablers towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for post-pandemic preparedness.Design/methodology/approachTotal interpretive structural modelling and Matrice d'Impacts Croises Multipication Applique' a un Classement (MICMAC) have been applied to analyse the SCSC enablers which are supported by the natural-based resource view in Turkey's food industry. In this context, industry experts working in the food supply chain (meat sector) and academics came together to interpret the result and discuss the enablers that the supply chain experienced during the pandemic for creating a realistic framework for post-pandemic preparedness.FindingsThe results of this study show that "governmental support" and "top management involvement" are the enablers that have the most driving power on other enablers, however, none of them depend on any other enablers.Originality/valueThe identification of the impact and role of enablers in achieving SDGs by combining smart and circular capabilities in the supply chain for the post-pandemic.

Purpose
Consumers have the multiple options to choose their products and services, which have a significant impact on the pattern of consumer decision making in digital market and further increases the challenges for the service providers to predict their buying pattern. In this sense, the purpose of this paper is to propose a structural hierarchy model for analyzing the changing pattern of consumer decision making in digital market by taking an Indian context.


Design/methodology/approach
To accomplish the objectives, the research is conducted in two phases. An extensive literature review is performed in the first phase to list the factors related to the changing pattern of consumer decision making in digital market and then fuzzy Delphi method is applied to finalize the factors. In the second phase, fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is employed to find the priority weights of finalized factors. The fuzzy set theory allows capturing the vagueness in the data.


Findings
The findings obtained in this study shows that consumers are much conscious about innovative and trendy products as well as brand and quality; therefore, the service providers must think about these two most important factors so that they can able to retain their consumer in their online portal.


Practical implications
The analysis shows that "innovative and trendy" is the first priority factor for the consumers followed by "brand and quality" and "fulfilment and time energy." The proposed model can help the marketers and service providers in predicting customers' preferences and their changing pattern efficiently under vague surroundings. The outcomes of this research work not only help the service provider to update their products and services according to consumers' needs but can also help them to increase profit and minimize their risk.


Originality/value
This work contributes to consumer research literature focusing on problem evaluation in the context of changing pattern of consumer decision making in digital era.

Circular supply chain emphasizes surge in application of reuse, recycling and remanufacturing and thereby promotes the transformation of manufacturing characteristics from linear ('take-produce-utilize-dump') to circular model of flow of products, by-products and waste. Supply chains of manufacturing industries have become global in last few decades. Products manufactured in developing nations like India and China are being sent to developed nations for consumption in higher volumes. Developed nations have the regulatory policies, technological knowhow and modern infrastructure to adopt circular supply chain model. Their counterpart is trailing in these aspects. In literature, limited research work has been performed on identifying challenges of implementing circular supply chain management in developing nations and their contextual association. In this article, based on thorough literature review and feedback received from experts, sixteen important barriers were identified to circular supply chain management adoption in Indian context. The listed barriers were then analysed using an integrated Interpretive Structural Modelling - MICMAC approach. This study attempts to identify the contextual interactions among identified barriers and to examine their hierarchical levels in effective adoption and implementation of circular supply chain management. The findings of this research will contribute in transforming supply chains in terms of bringing economic prosperity, addressing global warming issues and generating numerous employment opportunities. Finally, some crucial policy measures and recommendations are proposed to assist managers and government bodies to adopt and manage the concepts of circular supply chains effectively in Indian context.

Emerging economies, e.g. India, China and Brazil etc., face challenges to adopt food safety (FS) practices in their food supply chains. Considering food industry's operations and processes, this study identifies 25 challenges to the FS initiatives involving the opinions of practitioners from six major Indian food producers and academic experts. The challenges are grouped into five categories, viz. organisational, government and policy, global, knowledge and financial. We identify the best and worst challenges to the FS initiatives along with causality among them using combined Best Worst Method (BWM) and 'Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory' (DEMATEL) approaches. BWM prioritises these challenges, while DEMATEL identifies causal relationship maps for the prioritised challenges. The BWM results demonstrate that the government and policy related challenges are the key challenges followed by the organisational, global, knowledge and financial related challenges. The DEMATEL results exhibit the organisational, government and policy, and global related challenges as the cause group challenges. The knowledge and financial related challenges represent the effect group challenges. Mitigation of these challenges inherently necessitates stakeholders' involvement in the food supply chains. We identify constructs for food safety initiatives policy in the emerging economies to raise public awareness while encouraging greater collaboration and efficiency in food supply chains to help achieve the second Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) for securing food for everyone. The results of the study offer guidance and deeper insights to supply chain managers about synergy requirements between the government policymakers and key players of the industry in the emerging economies.
