In light of proposed changes to what many perceive as Draconian immigration policies regarding unauthorized entrants in Australia, it is conceded that more unauthorized refugees may try to come should refugee laws change & argued that more people ought to be allowed to stay with or without authorization. It is then acknowledged that the Commonwealth & States will need to pay so that vulnerable residents are not adversely impacted. Proposals of the Refugee Council of Australia are presented before estimating the numbers of asylum seekers that might take advantage of a relaxation of the laws. The necessity of state action to protect vulnerable members of Australian society from an influx of refugees with little to offer by virtue of their circumstances is elaborated, highlighting the impact of past immigration flows & the consequences of immigration under conditions of a weak job market & incomes. The cost of humanitarian intake of refugees is addressed in terms of the cost of labor & the White Australia policy. J. Zendejas
