The article examines and evaluates Greek hotels' marketing strategies during recession. It focuses on the investigation of hospitality practices during crisis, marketing strategies and innovation, development of competitive advantage, use of IT for marketing, and the influential links between them. It also examines the impacts of accommodation category and geographical type of hotel. The research is based on a nationwide e-mail survey to hospitality managers/owners (N=914). The results reveal the significant effort put into production cost minimisation, the direct effect of this on marketing strategies, the strong enterprising focus on marketing innovation, and the impact of the use of IT for marketing purposes, whilst the accommodation category has a greater impact on the examined constructs than does geographical type. The conceptualisation adopted provides recommendations for hospitality owners and managers along with a better understanding of the aspects contributing to hospitality marketing in a period of recession and political instability.

Tourists regard terrorism as an influencing factor in selecting travel destinations, as well as transportation means. The Mediterranean is the most famous tourist destination globally, whilst Crete is one of the most famous Mediterranean island destinations. Since most visitors use airplanes to reach the island, the purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions of tourists travelling by air in accordance with the influence of terrorism, the process of destination selection, and their alternations in travelling behaviour. It also examines the perceptions of key informants which focus on risk and crisis management in aspects of terrorism and finally, compares tourists and key informants' perspectives. In this study, the author began with a random starting method and then used structured interviewing in order to obtain objective, yet personal responses from the respondents (tourists). For key informants, the examination included the total population. For better comprehension of the perspectives' formulation the author analysed four socio-demographic characteristics (gender, age, level of education, and marital status). The results provide interesting outcomes concerning the degree of the perceived risk factors that tourists and key informants consider when travelling, revealing that even if terrorism is promoted as an exceptionally significant factor, in reality its importance is not semantic. It also emphasises that terrorism is a mean for creating a psychological impact to visitors which influences both visitors' and locals' decisions and behavioural patterns, since through the process of confusion, government agencies manipulate the reactions and perspectives of locals and implement fear as a tool for societal control.

In this work we consider a two-user and a three-user slotted ALOHA network with multi-packet reception (MPR) capabilities and a queue-aware transmission control. In this setting, the nodes can adapt their transmission probabilities and their transmission parameters based on the status of the other nodes. Each user has external bursty arrivals that are stored in their infinite capacity queues. We focus on the fundamental problem of characterizing the stable throughput region, as well as of investigating the queueing delay. For the two- and the three-user cases we obtain the exact stability region, whereas in the former case we also provide the conditions under which the stability region is a convex set. We perform a detailed mathematical analysis to study the queueing delay in the two-user case by formulating two boundary value problems, the solution of which provide the generating function of the joint stationary probability distribution of the queue size at user nodes. Furthermore, for the two-user symmetric case with MPR we obtain a lower and an upper bound for the average delay without the need of solving a boundary value problem. In addition, we provide a closed form expression for the gap between the lower and the upper bound. The bounds as it is seen in the numerical results appear to be tight. Explicit expressions for the average delay are obtained for the symmetrical model with capture effect. We also provide a closed form expression for the optimal transmission probability that minimizes the average delay in the symmetric capture case. AbstractMajor street events, such as carnivals, offer a unique opportunity for destination experience value co‐creation by participants which relates directly to the destination image. This study uses service‐dominant logic (SDL) to consider the effects of event co‐creation on destination image from the point of view of a participatory process rather than from an outcome perspective. Drawing from a sample of 400 street event participants in the Patras Carnival in Greece, it examines the complexity aspects of co‐creational experience and its influence upon the destination image of the host city. Those aspects are examined by means of fuzzy‐set qualitative comparative analysis. The findings revealed three sufficient configurations (co‐creational involvement and satisfaction; co‐creational event image; experience‐satisfaction nexus) that could affect the destination image of the host destination. The paper contributes to the theoretical body of experiential co‐creational approaches to destination image with clear managerial implications for both event organizers and destination managers.

Future mobile networks supporting Internet of Things are expected to provide both high throughput and low latency to user-specific services. One way to overcome this challenge is to adopt Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC). Besides latency constraints, these services may have strict function chaining requirements. The distribution of network functions over different hosts and more flexible routing caused by service function chaining raise new challenges for end-to-end performance analysis. In this paper, as a first step, we analyze an end-to-end communication system that consists of both MEC servers and a server at the core network hosting different types of virtual network functions. We develop a queueing model for the performance analysis of the system consisting of both processing and transmission flows. We propose a method in order to derive analytical expressions of the performance metrics of interest, i.e., end-to-end delay, system throughput, task drop rate. Then, we show how to apply the similar method to a larger system and derive a stochastic model for such systems. We observe that the simulation and analytical results are very close. We explore the potential of optimizing resource allocation with flexible numerology in frequency domain and variable frame structure in time domain, with services of with different types of requirements. We prove the NP-hardness of the problem and propose a scalable optimization algorithm based on linear programming and Lagrangian duality. We investigate transmission energy minimization via optimizing wireless relay selection in orthogonal-frequency-division multiple access networks. We take into account the impact of the load of cells on transmission energy. We prove the NP-hardness of the energy-aware wireless relay selection problem. To tackle computational complexity, a partial optimality condition is derived for providing insights in respect of designing an effective and efficient algorithm. In this work, we study the stability region of the two-user broadcast channel (BC) with bursty data arrivals and security constraints. It is assumed that one of the receivers has a secrecy constraint, i.e., its packets need to be kept secret from the other receiver, which is defined based on SINR. The receiver with secrecy constraint has full-duplex capability to send a jamming signal for improving its service rate. The stability region of the two-user BC with secrecy constraint is characterized for the general decoding case. Then, assuming two different decoding schemes the respective stability regions are derived. The fullduplex operation of receiver results in self-interference, and the effect of imperfect self-interference cancelation on the stability region is also investigated. The stability region of the BC with a secrecy constraint, where the receivers do not have full duplex capability can be obtained as a special case of the results derived in this paper. In addition, the paper considers the problem of maximizing the saturated throughput of the queue for which there is no secrecy constraint under minimum service guarantees for the other queue. The results provide new insights on the effect of the secrecy constraint on the stability region of the BC.
