The objectives of this study are to find out the impact of COVID-19 on universities cardinal programmes in North-central Nigeria. This study was carried out in North-Central Nigeria. We adopted survey research design for the study. The population of the study consisted of 300 hundred academic staff of public universities in North central Nigeria. The sample for the study was drawn from three public universities randomly comprising 100 each from each university. Questionnaire was used as instruments for the study which was titled (Impact of COVID-19 on Universities Cardinal Programmes Questionnaire). The research instrument was validated by four lecturers from Kogi State University. Reliability of items in the questionnaire of the respondents was established at 0.83 and 0.88 respectively using the Kinder Richardson Formula. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to answer the research questions and t-test statistical tool was used to test the hypotheses. The study concluded that COVID-19 pandemic that led to shutdown of public universities in Nigeria affected the teaching, research and community service programme of the public universities in North-central, Nigeria. The study hereby recommended that the government should provide adequate funds to the public universities to enable them acquire ICT facilities that will enable the universities conduct their activities virtually in case of future pandemic.

Public universities in Nigeria are faced with many challenges. Inadequate information communication technology (s) have been identified as one of the major problem. This paper is aimed to examine the factors responsible for inadequate information communication technology (s) in the Nigerian public universities. To do this, we employed the used of primary and secondary data. The secondary data were sourced from print documents and online publication on ICT. With the help of the document reviewed inadequate funding, poor implementation of ICT policies, corruption, poor maintenance culture, poor forecasting, lack of data and high cost of ICT facilities were identified as the factors responsible for inadequate information communication technology(s) in the Nigerian public universities. The effects of inadequate information communication technology(s) in the Nigerian public universities include poor implementation of teaching programme, research programme, learning programme and slowing down of school administration. To solve these problems, the paper recommended that the government should increase the funding of public universities and ensure more funds are allocated for the development of ICT programme etc.

The objective of tertiary education in Nigeria can only be realized when the tertiary institutions environment are peaceful, secured and conducive for teaching, learning and implementation of research programme. The recent attacks on tertiary institutions, especially on the academic staff, non-academic staff and students cannot guarantee sustainable development of tertiary education in Nigeria. Therefore, this paper discusses the effects of insecurity on theacademic staff of Nigerian tertiary institutions. The research employed the used of secondary and primary data to provide empirical supports for the various points raised in the paper. The secondary data used for this paper were sourced from both print and online publication. The paper concludes that attacks on academic staff of tertiary institutions have led to the death of academic staff, disruption of teaching programme, research programme, displacement of academic staff and brain-drain. To address these problems of insecurity, the paper recommended that government should identify problems causing insecurity, banditry and insurgency in the country and solve them. Management of the university should provide adequate security in all staff quarters and installation of CCTV at strategic locations should be done. All tertiary staff quarters should be fenced and adequate funds should be provided for the security unit of tertiary institutions and the units should be equipped with modern security technologies etc.
