It is the author's contention that the time for U.S.-Vietnamese normalization is now, for both geo-political and economic reasons. It is in the interest of the USA to help Vietnam become politically stable. He examines the efforts of the various U.S. administrations at reconciliation with Vietnam, official discussions between the USA and Vietnam for the past two years and varying views of the U.S.-congress, the American business community and the interested segments of the public in the USA on normalizations of relations with Vietnam.
