Problems of land rights and land use in Namibia: A case study from the Mangetti area
In: SSD Discussion Paper, 5
In this paper, the potential of alternative forms of land use practised in Namibia is shown. Focus is on the area in northern Namibia commonly known as "the Mangetti", now largely part of the recently established Oshikoto region. The patterns of land usage presented are those of people who live off the land and rely on it while having very little or no livestock at all. Mostly these people are threatened by the economically and socially destructive effects of landlessness as they increasingly lose control over their land. The paper draws on data that was collected during a field research among Haiom-speaking people, the original and the majority population of the Mangetti block. (DÜI-Hff)
